@alwaysAMC I thought Zaslow's last episode was earlier.  Thanks for reminding me what was the true last episode.

In the book he was just coming back from vacation. He was to film 4 scenes and then be off another week. He knew in his gut he was going to be fired. He thought his last one went well.  Remember that he had been asking for his speech issue to be used in the storyline (like stroke, etc. and they said no).

He was brought into an office and fired with a 'holding fee' and told to keep quiet.  At the time Michael kept quiet and was pretty much in shock & blamed himself for failing everyone. He then knew he had to fight, because he had a family to take care of. His wife was in shock with his initial reaction, because Michael never was one to just keep quiet & not fight for what he is due.

Whew, it's hard to read what happened and see it on screen. Makes me heartbroken all over again.

I agree with those saying that Reva's best storyline was from 1990. Both with Dylan and the post-partum depression.

No problem... and yes, genuinely heartbreaking :(

When the Dobsons moved to ATWT they did another marital rape storyline with John and Dee Stewart. So at that time, yes, I think they were modeling him at least somewhat on Roger.

That story was a major disappointment to me, because they made it a "he said, she said" story, with Dee eventually admitting she was "mistaken." Which makes me think that MZ and MG did really have an influence on how their story played out on GL, as it's possible the Dobsons would have taken that road with that one, too.

I think the story was that a drunken Dee initially responded because she thought John was actually the guy she was cheating on him with.  And when she realized it was John, she was so out of it and weak that John didn't even notice her trying to stop him?

John also raped Kim when they were married, but marital rape wasn't a crime then.

I have a question.  Why did Henry in 1989 forgive Alan so fast about lying about it being Roger that knocked Henry out?  Did Henry have any scenes with Roger in the 70s or 1980?

@alwaysAMC After you see Amanda/Lame Roger until the end in 1998, I want to ask if you agree with me that there was no chemistry at all between them and the writing had me scratching my head why they even got married. I swear they had less than a handful of 1 on 1 scenes together.

I don't think so. I believe Henry was introduced after Roger's death. In the episode where Roger "dies," there's talk of Spaulding's possible merger with Chamberlain.

They had broached the subject of marital rape with John/Kim around 1976. That was how Andy was conceived, but I'm not sure how much they really discussed it as rape.

might be the other way ‘round. larry bryggman began in 1969, and was pretty devious from the beginning. michael zaslow came on gl in 1971, and as i recall, grew into his deviousness over time.

just went to soap central to check and found that ‘who’s who in…’ is no longer available. a shame, it was such a useful resource.

maybe it's just not working. I'd hate to think they took it down. It's accuracy was sometimes bad, but it was still useful

I'm still laughing, gently, at myself for describing the wrong person, in detail. 😉

And it was odd that they chose to name Hunt Block's character Ben, when Ben Reade was such a recent character.

It happens to all of us. 😮

The Chamberlains sure are snobby!

Wasn't that Ian somebody, played by Peter Simon? Or did Ian die on her in bed later?

It hasn't been working for me in at least a month :(  I keep getting the 404 Not Found error. Hopefully they've got everything backed up. It was a helpful site for me to see how people are related and when they came/left.

Henry never interacted with Roger onscreen before 1989. Roger died in April, and that (I believe) was when Henry first comes to town. Vanessa debuted in June.  We actually see both of them introduced to Roger in '89, although they later retcon that Henry had known Roger when he first started at Spaulding. Vanessa does know who Roger was by reputation, as that's one of the first tidbits of info that she gets when she returns in July '89.

I'm not sure there's an explanation of why Henry forgives Alan so readily, other than their friendship and Henry's longstanding relationship with the Spauldings. Henry forgives both Alan and Alex for their boneheaded moves that hurt him more than once. I mean, Alex didn't step in when Roger swindled Henry out of his Spaulding stock in '90.

Or who had been lovers, which was mostly (usually) accurate.

I can't date it, but it has to be the fall of 1980. Lucille died in November, I believe. Jennifer went on trial in January 1981.

AHA...A Perfect Match first aired October 5th, 1980. This would've aired the week preceeding that.

Thank you for clarification.

I am still eagerly waiting for the episodes of Lucille's death to pop up one day. Those are a few of the soap episodes that are on my bucket list of one day popping up.

I tried Springfield Story YouTube and there are only 50 something episodes.  I Googled and it stated that the last time Ben was shown was October 1981, but I don't know how accurate that is.

Didn't he depart and go back to AW--this time as Jamie? I know from the clips from a year or 2 ago that he was Marianne's lover on Another World before he went to GL

I'm surprised that wasn't one of the episodes SoapClassics would've been interested in. Gosh, Rita Lloyd scared me when I was a kid.

No, it was a guy named Brad, who I think was married to her sister Annie? And after all that drama, when Brad and Dee had a chance to be together, it was a total bust and they broke up almost immediately. Not the Dobsons' best work.

I'm pretty sure Ian had already died when Dee married John.

The lack of care when it came to naming characters on GL has always been a pet peeve of mine. That was definitely a big one. A while ago we were making fun of all the young girls the same age with names that start with "M."

Someone mentioned earlier Claire's brother. When Michelle was born, they were going to name her Samantha after Claire's brother Sam. Claire changed her mind and put "Bertha Bauer Ramsey" on the birth certificate. Then Fletcher started calling her B. B. (or Bibi, or Bebe, don't ask me). Then suddenly Claire was telling everyone to call the baby Michelle.

CLEARLY, someone remembered at the last minute that Justin and Jackie's daughter was named Samantha, and that it would be awkward if they brought her into the story later (as they did eventually). Then someone thought it would be a good idea to have a tribute to Bert/Charita. Then they realized "Bert" or even "B.B." were not names for a modern soap character, so they quickly slapped Michelle on her. (I guess as a tribute to her Uncle Mike?)

Then there were multiple Williams, Billys, Bills, Wills . . .

Somebody really needed to gift the show a baby name book.
