Spauldingfield YT channel has been posting episodes almost every day for the past few months. They're up to 1987 episodes now. Get over there while you still can. 😥

Thank you very much for the tip.

In 1987, it's Warren's club, the Blue Orchid. (It preceeded the Blue Moon, which Hamp and Fletch owned in '90. Chelsea also sang there. LOUDLY.)

Yes, Chelsea Reardon, played by Kassie (Wesley) de Paiva.

Thanks for all of this!

I've said it before: they did Bev dirty. Never a real, sustained romance for Alex (unless you count Roger, but, you know...) with any chance of the audience being truly invested.

Everything in her life is a tragedy. She finds her kid, he dies. She finds her other kid, he leaves. She finds an old love, he dies.

Putting her with HB was an awful idea that thank goodness doesn't last very long.

Alex, I am sure, was not that bored.

It has something to do with the people Alan's mixed up with attacking both Lewis and Spaulding, and them kinda bonding over business. HB just gave Alex some hand carved figures, that reminded him of the whittling he did for Billy (cowboys and Indians) and Trish (animals) when they were young. He laments about how he didn't have time to do the same for Josh.

It's just extremely odd.  It seems (from the German episodes) that Vanessa is even saying that he should be careful because she doesn't trust Alex. (Vanessa blames Alan for Henry's latest heart attack, but how that translates to Alex I haven't figured out. Alan apparently either advised Henry badly or didn't step in when Vanessa thought he should have. He may have even helped swindle Henry somehow.)

She had sort of a romance with Fletcher. But, y'all know how unimpressed I am with him. lol

I can't imagine who I'd cast as a love interest for Alex. She's so dynamic, she'd run all over the wrong person without even trying.

On AW and Texas they put her with some nice leading men (including the incredible Donald May). But Iris was very different from Alex. Really, her leading man always was Doug Watson. She loved Daddy more than any other man.

I guess that was kind of true on GL, too. Her best leading man was Alan (at least as long as Bernau played the part). Only without the weird incest vibe.

Poor HB, with that houseful of boys & later, having regrets.

Now, that is an idea I hate, Alan swindling HB!

Fletcher doesn't count, ever, with anyone. Basically he's a cypher.

Not for the first time I wonder if she doesn't need someone who at a minimum wants to be dominated.

I think  they are trying to channel the original Billy/Van dynamic..but it doesn't work. Speaking of bored...they have a scene where Alan is ragging on Alex as she is getting ready to go on a date with H.B...(I know..freaky.) Alan suggests this if she wants an older man she should get someone from "their class of people, like Henry." Alex turns around and says, "I would DIE of boredom."  This was all kinds of wrong, Henry is a father figure to them so Alan's suggestion is creepy, and Alex dissing Henry over the old windbag H.B. (who I liked but...) annoyed me. She didn't say, "That's disgusting, he practically raised us" she insults him.

I still say a recast Mike Bauer would have been a great pairing, especially with Alan back or when Roger comes back.  Fletcher is, as always inserted into that plot where he doesn't belong.

She wants that, but she would totally have no respect for that person if they let her. Look at Fletch, for all of his bitching all he does is hold her purse and even lives in the mansion for a while.

Ugh. There were so many writers who did not understand these characters at all. I wish they had done a lot more with Henry as Alan and Alex's surrogate parent.

Today I was watching an episode with Vanessa and Alan arguing about how he treated her father in a business deal. Alan is protesting "she doesn't really know him."

WTF. They've known each other FOR YEARS. They've been friends and business associates for ages (during her younger slutty days, Vanessa would vamp him a little just for the hell of it, much to Hope's chagrin). He even asked her to marry him once! Yet they're treating them like they're virtual strangers.

It's such a no-brainer, isn't it? I wasn't a big Don Stewart fan, but he and Bev had a nice spark. If he didn't want to come back, I'm sure they could have found someone good to replace him. (Plus, they needed another lawyer in town. One minute Ross is D.A., then he's a defense attorney...they needed more than one).

I loved Henry..trying to calm down the divas in town..."Now Vanessa/Nola/Alex/Jenna/Dinah..dear...." No wonder the town fell apart after 97, Henry wasn't around to politely ring anyone's beads...

That example above of ignoring character history always hit me as laziness, especially this show where everyone and all the families had some kind of ties. Most glaring was when McTavish had NuChelle call Nola..."Mrs Chamberlaine"..that's your aunt you idiot...(all that Chelle could think about was loosing her virginity like she was in an 80s teen flick but still...)

I saw a few scenes between Alex and Mike in 1984.. and I think had the actor playing Mike not been so hung up on the age thing... Mike/Alex would have been a dynamic pairing with two strong minded individuals coming together... but the teasing of the two together in a pairing seemed to happen after the two obstacles for the coupling (Alan and Hope) were both gone from the canvas.

My late mom actually thought HB and Alex were a fun odd couple, but she figured it was more like two friends going on social dates vs an actual romantic pairing between the two.

Fletcher had chemistry with both Marj and Bev's Alex.. but I always viewed Fletcher/Alex as an opposites attract sort of coupling (oddly paired up when stranded on an island just like her brother Alan was when he was paired with Hope).

However, Fletcher didn't really accept Alex for who she was... he kept trying to change her even though some of what he was trying to change were negative/toxic traits Alex possessed.

To me, I liked that Alex was such an interesting character and had a strong presence without the benefit of being in a pairing.. though post country club 1991 really did a number on Alex when she could have benefited from making peace with being free of Roger and just standing by to watch Mindy self destruct like she always did.

Exactly! The writers seem to be trying to redefine relationships, and it makes them sound stupid. Vanessa and Alan worked together, she blackmailed him and he fired her more than once. She always knew he was a snake, and not to be trusted. Ross even says to her that she hasn't changed. WTH? You mean she hasn't changed from the days when she was accidently overdosing and borderline stalking him? Aye Carumba.

It seems out of place to see Vanessa and Alex so light-hearted, but I can argue that they deserved a break from the angst. But at times it seems like Ross and Henry are treating her like a child. And not that Alex couldn't enjoy the simpler side of life, but being so giddy with HB seems a bit much.

I appreciate the gravitas Don Stewart brought, but I can't see him and Bev having a spark.

I wish we were, but sometimes I think if channels are around long enough they end up getting hit. There are a few ATWT and GL channels that haven't but they are rarities. Many of them are also clips only. Sometimes I think it also depends on whether they are still uploading (I don't know if Blake Marler was or not).

Maybe full episodes could go on Archive, while that is still around.

The Internet Archive, Wayback Machine has clips, too, not just full episodes.

I hate to be a pest, but could someone direct me to this Archive (the Internet Archive) some of you are referring to for episodes of Guiding Light?

Thank you.

Easy. Literally type in the address bar or search bar, etc.

The Internet Archive

And, you'll get a page similar to this:

Then, in the middle, the word search, to the right of the graphic icon of a building with columns, type Guiding Light US soap opera clips (or full episodes instead of clips). And, if you have ANY trouble come back & ask!
