April 22, 1985. Floyd held a gun to India as he was revealed to be the killer of Andy Ferris.

And another Dobson character bites the dust.

Who was left from that era? Were Alan, Phillip and Ross the only Dobson-created survivors? (At this point Alan was gone, who knew if he was coming back?)

That was terrible what they did to Floyd. Absolutely nothing in his past would suggest that he would become a murderer.

Rick putting Michelle in the mental institution seemed to be when GL realized that OG Danny and Michelle had star crossed lovers potential. It feels very early on when the writers switch from Michelle and Jesse to Manny. It felt like one thing after another. But I went along with it since the chemistry is good.

I love the character of Billy, almost more than Josh. I'm surprised he never got the leading man treatment. At least during the eras I watched.

If someone were to make the argument that Jordan Clarke was among the 10 best actors Guiding Light ever had, I'd certainly entertain the idea. That guy was fantastic.

I'm not sure he'd make my top 10, but top 15 is likely. Top 10 would be tough as three of the slots would automatically be taken by Bernau, Zaslow and McKinsey. Not sure if you've watched those three in action over any length of time - I highly recommend your doing so. Well worth it,

As PJ said, Clarke's best era on Guiding Light was from 1989 to 1993. I agree.

It sucked. I was very resentful of what TPTB did to Floyd. Suddenly obsessed with Beth and then a murderer.

Wasn't Floyd employed in HVAC at Cedars? That seems correct, but maybe my memory is off.

Floyd might have made a solid romantic partner for Nadine, something I pondered a bit some time ago. There is both natural affinity and familiarity there; plus, Floyd is the understanding soul that Nadine would need to find a firm footing in life. Have Nadine sell real estate, and have Floyd open a bar and you have something.

Further, he could have played a role in the Neil Everest/Gary Swanson/Phillip/building explosion storyline.

Katie should have stayed in Springfield as well. An enjoyable (and believable!) brother/sister duo.

He did some kind of janitorial or handyman work at Cedars.

I don't about pairing him with Nadine, but it would have been nice if he wasn't the loser in every romance they put him in. Especially after he became a popular singer/songwriter. Making him the eternal loser didn't make sense at that point.

We were talking about how they should have brought back Stacy--having to deal with her bio dad after years abroad with her stepfather would have enhanced any story they wrote for her.

Like I mentioned before, the Parker family could have been expanded with more siblings and a parent(s).

By 85 only Ed and Ross survived from the Dobson era. Don't really count Phillip as he was a child in their time.

From Marland era I think only Vanessa, Henry and Maureen survived. Am I right in saying that at one stage there was only Maureen on screen until Bea returned and Chelsea was introduced?

Had Ed not been married to Maureen, I think the Reardons may have been forgotten.

Not good for the show that so few characters remained from 2 successful regimes.

Whether we liked Pamela Long runs or not, it was her characters that pretty much defined GL's final 25 years.

I'm not sure his work at Cedars was exactly defined. More of an all around handy man. I think there's a period where he was crushing on Lainie, and he helped set up her rehab equipment after she got out of the hospital (after her accident.) So, stuff like that.

Well, the character of Ed predated the Dobsons. Did they bring on Holly though?

And honestly, the Dobsons were the ones who laid the foundation for Phillip's complicated family history and angst. I'd count him, even if Long is the one who exploded him.

Josh was Marland's creation.

I'd split hairs re: Maureen. She kept the Reardons relevent, via her marriage to Ed and raising Michelle. Nola made the Reardons unforgettable.

Thank you for the latest recap/review @alwaysAMC

I knew India moved away from Ross before she disappeared, but I couldn't remember if he ever learned about her money troubles.

I also didn't remember the scene with Philip and Annie. I'm surprised the show brought them back together after Rauch quickly killed the pairing building between them.

An Annie return would have made more sense in some of Philip's upcoming storylines (far into the future upcoming...).

I hated that. Didn't watch for a while.

Holly came on in 1970. The Dobsons arrived in 75.
