I'm just glad they quit before they subjected us to the house/industrial version.

You haven't been boring me!  I've always felt that MK was one underrated daytime diva who deserves some flowers.  Same goes for Maureen Garrett and about a dozen other performers.

Of course my knowledge of music theory is next to nothing, but it seems to me if they had stripped it down to a more piano-y version, instead of trying to follow every rock/funk/jazz trend that breezed by, they might've been better served.

Maureen and Maeve were almost too good - it was easy to underrate them. We were lucky to have them in daytime as long as we did, and especially lucky for the gems they were given in the late '80s and early/mid '90s.

LOL...maybe not as much "boring" as rehashing something you guys discussed 400 pages and 10 years ago.

At times it does feel like Maeve and Maureen got overshadowed by the likes of Lenore/Lisa/Kim when discussing even Guiding Light's best actresses. I don't know what the 90's would have been like if Vanessa and Holly hadn't returned.

And they managed to do without meltdowns in a red dress *coughcough*

I never knew there was an Alex dream episode. Must have been a lot of fun for the cast to get to do something different. I wonder if this was before or after Santa Barbara's dream episodes of that period.

Thanks for sharing!!! I do remember watching this at WOST way back in 2006. If I recall the details right the episode aired on 1/20/89 and I think part of it was/May have been preempted on the East Coast due coverage of George Bush’s inauguration but  it did air in full in the west.

I love the self-referential humor involved in the episode too.

Funny episode..I love the Bauer sequence! I am sure Parker loved lampooning her  Mrs. Cleaver role...though Jay Hammer continues to annoy no matter what.  It was a bit clunky to have Alex hit her head on a rock to put her to sleep.

That's wonderful for both, but that doesn't mean I have to like their characters.  I don't care if I meet an actor or actress in real life. Hopefully they are nice if you do meet them....(and this coming from someone who met Lynda Carter a decade a go and freaked out..but you know..she's Wonder Woman!)

I always liked Fletcher on GL. I didn't know so many people disliked him. I thought there were many missed opportunities with the character (following through with the Maureen/Fletcher relationship as an example). I think the only character I actively disliked was Buzz because of the damage the actor and the character did to the show. I would also say Johnathan but I had given up GL for the most part by then.

I know it's fashionable to bash Kim Zimmer and Reva but I don't think the problem was ever Zimmer. It was the writers and exexs who didn't know to balance the show or the storylines were just not appealing. I think it's telling that I wanted Michelle Forbes and Cynthia Watros's character to succeed in making Reva suffer. That seems to be less about Zimmer and more about their talents especially Forbes.

I don't give a flip what is fashionable. Or two hoots either. But, I'm sorry, but it was not the writers or the execs who somehow, perhaps accidentally caused Reva to eat her show. No, it really was Kim. She in fact did have a group of fans who would at her say so call the studio because she was not on the front burner for one day. ONE DAY. Even one day when she was not the one driving story was one day too many. This is not an exaggeration for effect.

    • I am interested to see how they handle Leslie/Dana down the road. If she continues in this path, it would be unrealistic to have her around. Like other shows have done this with a 'villian' character and ended up with people looking stupid putting up with someone they detest. Another thought-could they be building up to a murder story? Maybe Les/Dan will be left in a coma and we will have a whodunit with several characters as suspect. It would also be a chance to redeem her I wonder how long the show will go w/o resorting to soap cliche stories-twins,switched at birth, murder mystery, long lost child etc
    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
