So, I basically agree (and said so above), except:

- the return of Nate is not a story. It's not worth doing unless there is a plan

- P3 finding a mate IS a story...but not one the Bells will EVER tell. Gay love is bad enough, but mature gay love (Saul, Brothers and Sisters) is verboten.

- The returns of Traci, Keemo and Kyle are not stories. I'm sorry to keep harping on that, but the returns of Mac and Raul and P3 and Chance and even Chloe all show that "returns" are not, in and of themselves, sufficient. It goes without saying that *casting* is also a real risk factor here...I don't know that I'd want all this until Mark Teschner comes to Y&R

- I, took am ready for the Fishwins/Scoobies to leave. But at least they drive story. To replace them, we need to make sure that the writers are willing to invest in others

- Eden leaving is not a story. It is just a story vacuum for Noah.

- I do very much like the idea of Rafe and Heather becoming Will and Grace, and again, if they could have a bona fide story, I think that could be something...

- Paul investigating Patty's past IS a story...and a much more exciting one than the doppelganger therapist.

Putting it all together, I think what Paul Raven has tapped into is the real desire to see stories rooted in core families, emotion. I agree.

The problem, though, is that I think we have ample evidence that plot is what drives ratings for Y&R. Big moments of death, crime, adventure. (We all know this is a short-term investment strategy, but that is what is getting the eyeballs these days).

The problem to solve--and no one is doing it -- is to find ways of telling stories like this while keeping the show exciting for the plot-hounds.

I have said it before: I think the big plot twists can be as simple as "What happens when Dina and Jill finally run into one another at the party?". But there still need to be plots based on secrets, lies, thwarted love, and all that stuff--or people won't tune in.

(I'd love to see Paul investigate Patty's past--and when he needs to get a lens into blocked memories, I'd love to see him pull in Carl [who may have amnesia, but who still has the instincts of a cop] to help him out. WHERE IS MARY WILLIAMS???)

*Rafe and Heather bond and decide they need to move on from Adam.

Unfortunately I think this one is the only one that stands a chance of happening because it involves two people still hung up on a penis. I'd sooner see them get together and discuss how they have moved on from Adam and wondering what either one of them saw in him to begin with. Although I think it could be a good storyline to write in Vail's pregnancy and have her ensure that Adam never gets to have any part of his child's upbringing. Then they should move her into a triangle with Chance and Chloe. I could just see the self righteous Heather going after the good virgin detective.

WTH is Chloe wearing? That top is awful and I don't know why they like to put her in skirts that look like giant diapers.

Traci, should go back to NYC and start adopting children of all ages.

Since the actress is retired I think they should hire Rue McClanahan as Mary Williams.

...And Traci's going back to New York cause Genoa City is "too painful".

Translation: I don't want to die!

I know I'm considering leaving GC because it is too painful to watch what this soap has become.

LOL Ashley has replaced Sabrina's spot on the wall with a photo of herself and "her" baby. Personally I would have preferred to see Zapato's photo there.

In record time no less!

These stories for vets like Nina, Esther, Katherine, Jill and Traci are like their swan songs.

Liv's will be

Lily's kidnapping

& Lauren's will be

Eden's rape.

I love, love, love this turn in Ashley.

Ashley didn't replace that picture to be mean-spirited. Indeed, I'm not sure she's even aware of the subconscious ramifications of it at this point. So, too, staying at the ranch is not a rational choice...it was a source of such pain. She's not plumbing her deeper motives.

I love that there will be--however brief--a "divorce war". That's what I wanna see! Ordinary mortals turn into monsters, even in simple divorces, when custody and property are at issue!

I love how Davidson is playing the latest incarnation of Ashley as a sweet, smiling Stepford Wife. She's beautifully signalling the layers of dysfunction that lie beneath.

This is the kind of story I want to see!

Same with (because I can put Adam's summer deeds out of my mind) Adam making trouble for his sibs!

Bravo!

The story doesn't work.

The only way it can work is if Ashley moves off the ranch.

The problem with Adam making problems for his siblings is they are both so vacuous I can't care what happens to them. Nothing ever really changes them, they're just...there.

I guess it's a reminder of Ashley's self-absorption that she replaced the photo of the person Victor worshiped with the photo of the person she worships.

No, seriously, I would be happy if she wanted to focus on herself, but something tells me if Victor mumbled a half-apology, she'd take him back in a heartbeat.

Traci's song for Colleen is now available as a legal, free download!

A Song for an Angel...

It is difficult to speak at a memorial, when all your grief is just beneath the surface, threatening to explode at the most inappropriate moment. Sometimes a song can turn despair into hope, loss into gratitude, grief into grace. At Colleen's (Tammin Sursok) memorial service, Traci (Beth Maitland) sang "An Angel's Lullabye" as red balloons were released into the sky to remember her only daughter. Jack Allocco and David Kurtz, The Young and the Restless' award-winning musical wizards, teamed up with Gary Verna to write the special tune of remembrance for Traci to sing for her child. Let the healing begin...
