Has Nelson Branco said Yani Gellman should be recast? I heard that. I think he's the least of the problems with the Rafe story. I don't even care if he looks young, I thought his looking vulnerable and young was supposed to be part of the design of this story with Adam.

You know, Branco can be a real DIPWEED sometimes! In his column today, he bleats on about how Yani Gellman looks too young to be paired in this SL with Muhney, and they should recast Gellman. HELLO???!!! MUHNEY, is the one who's TOO OLD. The character of Adam is supposed to be 6-8 years YOUNGER than Nick, and with Engen, that worked. So Engen bolts, they get an actor that's 10 years too old (But that obviously Branco is wanking over) and somehow GELLMAN is the problem? He said there wasn't any lustful looks before this from Rafe... sicne when did he have the opporotunity? With the exception of two scenes I can remember, all of Rafe/Adam scenes were centered on legal business... not personal business. This SL DID have a lack of development showing Adam's and Rafe's friendship.... but tha't not Gellman's fault. Branco is out of his gourd.

I guess we posted at the same time.

The story has been undeveloped from the start. There was so much hype from Branco and others about the passion of this story, how bold it would be, and so on. If that hasn't materialized, then the person who is lowest on the totem pole ends up getting the blame.

Yeah, and what I'd like to know is how come Muhney isn't the low man on the totem pole? I know... because Branco is jerking off over him, that's why. Rafe is sorely underdeveloped, and considering what kind of groundbreaking SL he's being shot into, he needs much more development. And for the love of Pete... you can easily make Gellman look 5 years older with a different hairstyle and some facial hair, give me a break. Look what they did to Ford... she now looks like a 28 year old straight girl, instead of a 40 year old lesbian ready to go to a softball game.

I'm gonna sound like the Gay Mafia here for a minute...

Okay, so if Nelson Branco is right about the alleged kissing ban at Y&R(and judging by those stage kisses, he might be onto something), then this completely counters what Maria has been saying in interviews.

Maria: More importantly, the gay storyline we’re planning on telling will reflect real life. I couldn’t be happier.

So, let's see Maria: it's realistic for an upstanding, respected lawyer to stop looking for clues that would help exonerate his aunt because he wants to have some hot sex with his former client throwing his ethics out of the window? Negative!

It's also realistic for the two of them to hug each other, shake hands, and stare into each others eyes as methods of copulation? Negative!

It's also realistic for the two of them, in lieu of a kiss, to put their temples next to each other and look like a Brokeback Mountain poster in the privacy of their own bedroom? Negative!

I'm all for reflecting real life, but this story leaves too much to the imagination. It comes off as false and extremely 1980's. And it's not what Maria promised. If this is what "Real Life" is for gays, then I want no part of it.

Maria: Absolutely. We are going to be telling our gay stories in ways you wouldn’t expect. I don’t want to tell a traditional coming-out story because I feel that has been done to death.

You're absolutely, 100%elly right Maria. The coming out story has been done to death. But so are the stories of gay/bi/curious perverts, gay victims, sensational gay sex scandals, and self-righteous queens(PHILLIP THIS MEANS YOU!).

Maria: Our stories are about relationships — and our gay stories will be no different. You’re going to see gay themes in several different ways on the show. I won’t spoil anything because viewers will really enjoy how it all unfolds. We’re portraying being gay as it is: a part of life.

Replace "relationships" with "random sex," and then this would be more accurate. At least she's not discriminating on the "random sex..." oh wait! Sharon and her many guys can kiss each other on-screen. That part of the gay story is "different."

I am absolutely not surprised that there is a "kissing ban" at Y&R. I mean, you guys expected the Sarah Palin of soaps to accurately tell a story about gays? She has the balls to say in an interview that this is her show and her vision. Well, I guess her vision isn't 20/20 when it comes to accurately telling a gay story, as she promised.

Maria was totally channeling Palin at one of those Y&R parties last year with her darker hair and the way she was dressed. Maybe she can channel Palin in another way and "step down" from the Head Writer position if she's not committed to soap storytelling.

Seriously, Steve Kent, Barbara Bloom, and "Friend of Braeden's" Les Moonves should get Chuck Pratt and Jill Farren Phelps out of their ABC contracts and push them onto Y&R. At least they can stand behind their misogyny, poor plotting, and stunts instead of standing behind the Bill Bell legacy. Pratt and Phelps can do fun, sensational stunts with an amazing writing team. They can trim useless characters and make this show dark, but light and fun too.

I mean, these boring retcons are complete and utter crap and everyone keeps saying that soaps are gone in a few years anyway. Why the hell not go out with bang? Blow up the Newman House, The GCAC, go on some expensive location shoots, hire Timothy Gibbs as a long lost Newman and make him and Sharon the new supercouple. Hire A Martinez as Rafe's long lost, homophobic dad.

Maria: Empty Promises, Poor Storytelling.

I think the narrative Branco built up with this story was with Chris Engen gone, the relationship between Adam and Rafe would be sexy, groundbreaking, incredible. Instead, it's a recast who sticks out like a sore thumb in awkward scenes with an actor who looks much younger. The lack of a kiss and lack of passion is especially noticeable because there was such buildup after Branco said this was why Engen wanted off the show. The longer this goes on the more it seems like Engen had other reasons and wasn't what the column made him out to be.

I assumed part of the story was about Rafe being (or pretending to be) more naive than Adam, so if that's part of the story, I'm even less sure why Branco wants a change. This isn't supposed to be a sexy story, so the current scenes are playing up to that. I don't think they would be any different with another actor. But instead of going along with that, Branco instead blames it on Yani Gellman, as if Yani himself is responsible for anything other than reading the few lines they have given him.

But seriously, Y&RWorldTurner, this sh!t pisses me off!

Don't say that you're gonna do a non-traditional gay story and pull the rug out from the audience. I'm surprised the gays aren't pissed off about this alleged kissing ban.

What is she waiting on?

That's bullsh!t and she knows it! And it's not realistic! She never intended to tell a groundbreaking or a real gay story. She wanted to use the gay audience(via Nelson Branco) to get some Nuke-hype for her pathetic fan fiction of a show.

One can only HOPE.

Exactly, it's pathetic and sad how she hides behind the Bill Bell legacy when her storylines aren't plotted, executed, or as well developed as most of his were. She needs to give it up already, she's nothing like her late father-in-law and she needs to stop insinuating crap like that to the press.

But of course if Maria goes, Sheffer and Hamner need to go as well. They're all a horrible combination for a show like this.

Yep, that's exactly what I think too. It's really sad...

Bellcurve... I will bet my BOTTOM DOLLAR (pun intended) that what you described in your spoiler tag is EXACTLY what MAB is waiting for. On the one hand, no kiss between Adam and Rafe makes it unrealistic, on the other, making us wait until the cows come home is CLASSIC Bill Bell. I mean, how long has Billy had blue balls now? But the thing is... when Bill made us wait, there was something really GOOD at the end. She needs to realize that, and FAST... cause I don't want her blowing another "poetic justice" moment like she did with Glo and the face cream.

Like you said, bellcurve, I never expected anything more than what we have gotten from this story. Y&R does not do progressive storylines. Hogan Sheffer definitely doesn't. So you guys think MAB trumped up more to Branco than what has been delivered? I can't tell if there was supposed to be more or if there never was, and Branco just thought there was going to be more. It's kind of like how brilliant the Bianca/Reese/Zach/Kendall story was supposed to be on AMC, until he turned against it.

But when did "kissing" turn into comeuppance on a daytime drama?! Kisses are a part of everyday life, just like being gay. And according to Maria, gay people are a part of everyday life.

Everyone kisses in daytime...excuse me, everyone who's heterosexual. If Adam is trying to "fool Rafe" into believing he's in love with him, then Adam WOULD be kissing Rafe. Why aren't we seeing that?! Why are they scared to show that if they plan on telling the "non-traditional" gay story. I'm surpised by your restraint alphanguy. I assume someone who likes c**ks and ass as much as you do would be so patient, so restrained to see male/male making out or making love on the screen. Why should you have to guess whether Rafe is the "top or bottom"? According to Maria's interviews, she wanted to show you. But what's on the screen is completely different.

And if Nellie is to be believed(the same way most of you believed Engen left because of the gay story), CBS didn't want the kiss banned. Y&R DID!

I mean, if Maria's gonna write the story like that, then script a moment where Rafe reaches in for a hug or a kiss and Adam, "cemented in his heterosexuality," rebuffs the romantic part of Rafe's feelings. That would be completely plausible instead of Adam professing some sort of feelings or love for Rafe.

Yes. Anyone can read that interview and look at those quotes and see that she definitely promised the $5 Footlong and delivered the McDouble.

BIG difference with that story. Zeese was supposed to be endgame and we all knew it. Bianca/Reese as endgame was the brainchild of crazy fans. Tamara Braun and Eden Riegel(who should have known better)may have been promised more by Pratt/Carruthers, but definitely not the fans. Especially given Bianca's previous romantic history on AMC.
