Yeah, writers who can do ensemble casts and dynamic stories. Also to add: Jeffrey Archer, Jane Austen, Victor Hugo, etc.

Writers who take the genre seriously, which I don't think Hogan does. He can come up with soapy ideas, but those are the reasons why people dont take soaps seriously

Which is why I think Sheffer holds a lot of worth as a member of a team. I was excited for him to be "co-head" because I feel like he has amazing story concepts, but needs to be reined in before he goes out of control. Many of us have said here over the years that there was a magic to Sheffer/Culliton in his first year at ATWT because he had somebody who "got" the genre, and could balance him out. I truly don't understand why no other executive has looked at his past history and said "This is how and when Hogan works" and "This is how and when Hogan doesn't work". Instead, they just seem to look at 4 Emmys. But they're not looking at the "whys", and that's their downfall when hiring him.

What I think is Hogan's, and was Latham's, problem is that both have never connected to Y&R and found it the dullest soap that ever was. I think Lynn Latham went a bit farther than that - she probably hated it. And Hogan is coming close. They are both completely bored and puzzled by how such a soap retained no. 1 status for all these years. It projects clearly in their work for the soap.

I had a fun few minutes with my sister, someone who's aware of the Y&R characters, original pacing, and style, but not emotionally invested in the show... I described LML's worst stuff (killing off John, the reliquary etc) and then I told her what she did with P3's return because he was gay (she rolled her eyes), Chance meeting P3 ("what, that was it?"), Adam making a baby barbecue ("that's the sickest thing I've ever heard! And it's not possible! You can't not know you lost the baby!"), Patty Jane's storyline (a general look of confusion), Summer's coma ("she went in a coma from a kiss?"), Victoria and J.T. ("the idea of those two together is disgusting") etc.. She got more and more disgusted as I went on....

Boy... It is so awful. At times I would make a desperate move such as bring Gloria Perez or Gilberto Braga, Brazilian writers, to pen American soaps. I really would; the flaws of those telenovelas are many and at times they are hilariously naïve and patronizing, but man is that better than this repugnant, revolting and repulsive mess.

 At this point, even the writer of MARIMAR and MARIA LA DEL BARRIO would be better!

Or BELISSIMA... God I loved that novela.

^^^^The show isn't even campy in a fun way anymore, it's just very dull camp that tries to be "dark."

There is so much wonderful history which can still be used with Katherine and Jill, with the Chancellors, and we get none of it. This is a story which could have been centered around Jill and instead she is barely a bystander. I wouldn't mind as much if there were good stories and they had no room for Jill, but there aren't. She's on the sidelines for chipmunks and blind-today-sighted-tomorrow sociopaths.

Just read two spoilers that piss me off and I'm not even going to wrap them up in spoiler tags....

Jill will ADOPT Cane, A GROWN ASS MAN PUSHING 40. OK, I get that she wants to still consider Cane her son, but does she need to do this at this point in both of their lives? She already left her part of her estate (her part of the Chancellor mansion) in her will, but adopting a man that's almost 40? Don't anyone push this love conquers all crap on me, this was a man who helped conned and she only found out about that two weeks ago, and now she'll legally adopt this adult? And people wonder why so many of us are sick of this Cane propping?

Another is is that Chloe and Chance will have SEX soon, and this will be his first time. So, I guess you're nobody until you're laid on today's Y&R? Sex is already a joke on this show with the quad and Billy screwing any and everything. Couldn't they have had one virginal character (and no, Lily jokes don't apply here) that simply lusts and conceals his sexual desires instead of acting on his impulses? And sex with Chole THIS SOON, especially when she's hardly over Billy and he just came back from town and has apparently been a virgin for this long?

Maria Arena Bell, Hogan Sheffer, and Scott Hamner all need to be fired. These people are ruining all of these characters and these storylines are either not needed, damaging, or just stupid.

Meh...neither of these spoilers excite me...but they don't bother me either.

I guess this means Chance really is 21 years of age or something? That I find difficult to believe.... He's filled out nicely for such a young slip of a boy.

This show is all plot, plot, plot ......and severe rushing of these inane storylines.

This current writing regime is burnt out, and they clearly do not get this show. The glow of their first few months where they were wrapping up old stories and planning their first set of stories is now over, and they've really sunk...

The honeymoon is long over folks....
