Barry Cutler appeared on "Days" from 1995-1996 as Parrot Man, one of the most unique characters ever on "Days". Parrot Man was one of many strange characters introduced during "Days" Aremid storyline. He recently agreed to do an interview for my website. See how Barry got his "Days" role, what the plans were for the Aremid gang, and see what he's up to now. http://www.jason47.com

The Parrot Man was one of my favorite Aremid characters! In fact, I loved that whole storyline and everyone in it. It was a silly attempt at goth, but I loved it. The talking paintings, the woman in white, Tony shooting himself after Jenn and Peter's wedding. *sigh* And I loved Kristi McDaniel(Sarah, who I will always believe was the precursor to Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions) and wished they had her do something other than play opposite Mark Valley. She wasn't in Reilly's plan, but I wish they would have kept her on DAYS after the spinoff plans fell through. Sarah/Eric would have been great together.

Damn you Melissa Reeves for f*&king Jason Brooks and screwing us out of that spinoff. We could have avoided Passions and maybe even Sunset Beach.

Quick ETA: Culter's a little mistaken though. The numbers went up during the Demonic Possession story and stayed up during Aremid, but they didn't go up as a direct result of that story. The story helped DAYS stay solid.

And thanks for the interview Jason. :D

I think the spin off didn't happened because JER wanted to own it and Corday said no chance in hell. Something like that must have happened, so JER packed up and said f*** you to Corday by leaving to create Passions.

Thanks, Jason!

I loved Parrot Man too. He was another unique and fun creation of Jim Reilly's that stood out. Aremid was by far one of JER's best longterm stories. So many awesome things happened.

I had a huge crush on Kristi McDaniel. She and Mark Valley had a lot of chemistry, and I wish she kept her on too.

I thought the spinoff would be a joint venture between NBC and Corday? I specifically remember reading that early on(prior to Missy leaving) that the project would be a joint venture between Corday/NBC. Even *IF* Reilly wanted no part of the spinoff because of ownership issues, why didn't Corday just greenlight the damn thing anyway and get someone else to HW(leaving Reilly's name, as a creator and story consultant in the credits)? Corday was stupid for not edging out Reilly and attempting to capitalize on the show's ratings success(much in the same way Riche screwed Labine over by offering up PC as a cheaper, network-owned friendly alternative to Labine's Heart and Soul).

I specifically remember you saying on another MB years ago(not this one) that Reilly specifically sought out McDaniel for the role of Charity on Passions. Is that still the case or was that just one of those rumors?

Thank you so much, Jason! It was so great seeing Kristi again, and she still looks so freakin beautiful. I wish she was back on my tv screen. If I'm ever in LA, I'm so going to that boutique.....maybe with a picture of Kristi so she can sign it. LOL

    • I really wish we could see that episode...absolutely, my memory could be faulty, it was a very long time ago. I'm not going to contradict what the actors said--there has to be a reason it made them so uncomfortable that they talked about it in the press and complained to TPTB. I think that was the first one where they made the point that they wanted to educate the audience about the subject.
    • I just did with GL and its made me very happy!

Oh yes, trying to get into any soap from scratch starting post-2010 would be hard. I prefer to go back to the good ol' days, before the decline.
    • Can we talk about how iconic the 1994 tornado was on AMC? I was scanning through old episodes last night and came across this episode. The tornado was epic and the storylines/aftermath were so good (Julia's scar/Noah!; Jenny/Ray/Nola/Jesse in heaven with Tad, etc).  For 1994, these special effects and budget for this big event were amazing. 10 out of 10!  The only thing missing is Erica!  I can't recall where Erica was at the time, but I really wish she had been involved in this storyline.

    • On the way to her own engagement party? I've read that the show had trouble getting the audience to sympathize with Rita, but...that seems bizarre. Maybe I can understand the issue with the censors, given that at the time, rape wasn't depicted the way it is now, and marital rape was even less acknowledged.  Wasn't Chris Brooks' rape one of the first honest stories on the subject? I just don't think I could get into a show I didn't have a working knowledge of. I know it's a different era, but I really tried to get into GH once Maura West joined, but it just never jelled.
    • Yes it was! My mom and I convinced my dad to get one. He was--how shall I put this?--on the thrifty side, but one day he came home with one as a surprise. To this day, I'm convinced it fell off a truck. (He knew people with "connections."

) BUT, we had our VCR and we could watch our soaps. That thing lasted forever! It was built like a tank. Even when we got new ones with more features, we kept that one.

Blasphemy!  (Haha, I get it.  But, you should try watching AMC! 80s-90s was so good.)
    • I thought about saying how I resented the fact that those two newbies were tripping up the Puppetmaster of all Puppetmasters, when the best others could do was a stalemate (or less...). But, well...*sigh*
    • I read years ago that both Zaslow and Lenore both complained that it came off as a seduction because of CBS censors, so Lenore asked if she could say, "you raped me" to leave no doubt with the audience, and that Zaslow insisted that Holly's rape played realistically
    • Wow it’s official, Gatwa is out… https://www.avclub.com/ncuti-gatwa-addresses-doctor-who-finale-statement DW fandom on Reddit is in a furor over how things went down and apparent last minute scrapping of the original ending. Also…Billie Piper again really?
    • He comes pretty close, talkin' about how Reva is full of love and joy, blah blah....which is bilge considering he was the one responsible for throwing her out of Josh's life over working with Alan.
