I don't think Jake was needed after a certain point regardless of the rape, but the rape clinched it for me. I think sometimes shows cling onto specific characters/actors and it harms the show because there's no room for growth or other possibilities. I don't know what the backstage drama was in relation to Eplin but I just never felt Jake was worth the money or the time investment. I feel the same way about GH and the character of Sonny. To keep it P&G related, I have similar thoughts about Kim Zimmer's Reva especially during Calhoun's tenure where GL was allowed to thrive once she was no longer there.

I look forward to seeing you here with us.

P.S I have a review to write, because we watched an episode finally yesterday. We had rested a bit from the show unintentionally and I've also been in Pine Valley with Phoebe, Erica and Skye! But I'm starting to miss Bay City and this topic too! Miss reading you guys. I have to catch up on the last few pages.

Yeah, there was no BTS drama about Tom Eplin. There was just the network pushing violence against women & with Jake, it was specifically pushing an action that many fans, including me, think was totally unrealistic according to his character. Jake would not have raped Marley, or anyone else for that matter. Jake was just not a rapist, a bad guy, a villain. He was a blue collar dude with a chip on his shoulder but that's the worst I can dredge up to say about him. Anyway, thanks for replying.

Sonny, I've always hated, always will.

Reva, not a fan.

It's entirely true that there were ATWT fans who resented Jake, Vicky, Cass, Lila, Donna & Marley & the twins.

Your joy watching these episodes for the first time is what I love to see on here.  You have so much good stuff ahead of you. 1989 is filled with great stories, events, returns, goodbyes and a few wonderful new characters.  In my opinion it is the last year where popular actors from the 60s, 70s and 80s are represented.

Ah, this is so nice and so encouraging to hear. I know that I'm mostly repeating things that you guys already know... but I do try to give it my own flair and bring my emotion and humor into, so it doesn't bore you.

Bore us?!!! Are you kidding? I hope so because vicariously  "watching" AW is just so much fun!!! Please keep on in your journey into Bay City social life. Iris & Rachel are waiting for you.

I've come across some articles I'd like to share. First up: RKK about Doug Watson.

Next: RKK about Connie Ford

Now JFP about Frankie:

Hold on to something. This may prove to be difficult.

Last one, this is Jill about P&G vs. NBC. I never knew she said this.

Another World - January 16th, 1989

There is a snake in the company.

In the Cory Publishing building Mac is shocked to find the level of material his daughter Amanda has produced is not up to par with the standard quality of the magazine. Iris confronts him and tries to persuade him to let Amanda work on all the projects (AND THEY ARE MANY) she has given her. Mac finds the whole situation absurd and thinks Iris is overworking his little daughter and putting her up for failure. Iris of course, denies and claims that she has her sister's best interests and that it's Rachel's fault that Mac is now doubting her. If you ask Iris, Rachel is to blame for everything, including Global Warming.

Iris has put out yet another one of her traps and the Cory's are falling for it. She has purposely made so that Mac will get angry and disappointed by Amanda's unpolished work, and that she can appear as the savior and Mac and Rachel - the ones that don't believe in her and the bad guys. All she wants to do is breed toxic atmosphere in the family and break Rachel, Mac and Amanda's rapport. She wants to eat them from inside out. And she is succeeding at this moment.  When later in the episode Amanda overhears her mother and father talking critically of her, she once again assumes that it's only Saint Iris who wants the best for her.

In the hospital we have Jamie in turmoil over still-sleeping beauty Victoria. She opens her eyes for a moment, so that he gets a glimpse of hope, but then she disappears into nothingness again. Victoria's father Michael is the other person severely emotional about the chance of losing his daughter. He is even crying at the thought of it. Saint Iris, once again, circling like a vulture... comes once again to offer a helping... "hand" (we all know what helping organ she wants to offer) and Michael pushes her away for the 192892th time. But we learn one thing - for some reason Michael did not tell Donna about his past with Iris. Iris takes that as a sign of weakness in the relationship.

In the finale of the episode, Victoria opens her eyes to see Jamie full of "love" and care for her. All is happy ending, EXCEPT one little detail - WHO'S THE DADDY!

Overall 10 / 10. I would have given it 11/10, but I don't want @Contessa Donatella to think I can't count.

Highlight - Iris pitting the family against each-other.

Do you know the Christopher Guest movie SPINAL TAP? Well, in it, they turn the volume on the amps to 11, which of course, is a major gag because the amps only go to 10. I'm personally a really huge fan of turning the dial to 11!

Otherwise, dam* that Iris! Also poor Amanda! If it were me, I would not be excited to be following in the footsteps of either Rachel or Mac!

I have never heard of that movie!

But I'm glad that I now have a green light to level up my satisfaction to 11 or even more!

Susan Sullivan posted on X a short time ago that she is suffering from lung cancer and lymphoma. I was not aware of this. I hope she beats this and pulls through!

I have only seen a few clips of her on AW. I know her mostly from Falcon Crest. I wish there was more of her work out there as Lenore.

I am an aficionado of all of the Christopher Guest projects. They use improvisation to develop their movies but by the time they do final shoots they have a codified script from their rehearsal improvs. SPINAL TAP is the first & is not the best or the strongest. In the movie, they play the British rock group which is where turning the amps up to 11 comes in. One interesting item of note is that they went crazy shooting & by the end they had enough for 4 or 5 movies!!

Clear field to make the numbers whatever your heart desires!
