And, the first storyline I remember was DAYS Susan & David & Julie & poor baby Dickie. Denise as Susan was the STAR of that story.

Oh my -- long time ago, huh??  What was the actual storyline? Here's what I recall: Susan was married to David Martin and had his baby, Dickie.  David allowed Dickie to fall off a swing-set or something, and Dickie was killed.  So a distraught Susan shot and killed David.  Julie had been having sex with David Martin, and was pregnant with his child when Susan killed him.  Then Julie named her newborn child David.  And that was really what began the big feud between Susan and Julie.  I KNOW I have a lot of this history wrong -- so anyone please feel free to correct my historical errors.  I would appreciate that very much.

Now back to Denise's Another World connection.  Although I loved Denise as an actress, I was never crazy about Mary McKinnon.  Mostly because of her completely unbelievable introduction -- two back-from-the-dead characters returning in the SAME storyline. It seemed ridiculous, and was just a bit too much for me to accept.

Denise was the best thing about that otherwise ridiculous plotline. I wasn't familiar with her work on Days of Our Lives or General Hospital but I could see her warmth and charisma as Mary even though the Another World storyline was a bit lacking.

Back up a bit. Susan & Julie were best friends. Tom thought David too old for Julie & forbade her to see him. They continued but they had to sneak around.  So they couldn't always get together when they wanted to. One of THOSE nights David got drunk. At the same time for different reasons Susan had a huge fight with her parents, slammed out the door & went & also got drunk. David & Susan comforted each other & things took their usual course From that one  drunken night, Susan got pregnant. The 3 made a joint decision. He would marry her to give the child his name & then they would divorce. Is it any wonder this did not go according to plan. Bill Bell wrote this. So best friends became bitter enemies.

I am the exception because I had no problem suspending my disbelief to go along with the LaSalles. I love Marisa as much as I loved Mary. Reginald, always a problem to me, And, Robert Hogan had to be Vince.

WhIle I'm at it I am glad that didn't do anything with making Scott a triplet.

Thank you for the clarification, but Susan didn't name her child after David.  It was Julie who named her own son David.   And how/when was Susan's son killed?  And didn't Susan kill David Martin and stand trial for his murder?   The genius of Bill Bell -- truly.

Mickey Horton got her off, temporary insanity.

Edit to add: If only Peacock would air this storyline.

Edit to add: David was supposed to be watching the child. Wasn't. Child fell out of swing, broke his neck. The show had the camera focus on that empty swing, just barely moving ...

Susan named her son after her father, Richard, and they called him Dickie, for short.

David had bought Dickie a play swing but it was too big for him. One day, while David was babysitting, he put Dickie in the swing, took his eyes off of him for a few seconds and he fell out of the swing, hit his head and died. Susan was so devastated that she shot and killed David only like a few episodes later.

Oh yes, that would be grand!  But Ken Corday will never allow that.  No executive-producer wants to hear people rave about how good his show "used to be".

Thank you for sharing that information.  I barely remember that plot, but it was so significant in DOOL's history.  Ramifications went on for years and years.

I would say, Denise was the ONLY good thing about that insultingly ridiculous plot.  But all this took place near the end of Another World's "let's play everything for laughs" era.  Thank God that nonsense ended around 1988.

"To give her child a name" just means to make the child legitimate and be able to take the father's surname.

Sure!  And we promise, Mr Corday -- we will ridicule those wonderful old episodes daily on social media.   NOT!

Thank you. I didn't realize there was confusion.

You cleared it up.

It is more than crazy that this whole conversation is off-topic.

Doesn't matter if its off topic. No need to point it out. Things will get back on topic soon enough. They always do . . .

And I do love the off topic photos from the Bill Bell era!  So thanks.

No, we would really do it.

Those pix were so famous!

In early May 1970 Susan introduced Doug Williams to Julie. Her intent was evil. But, it backfired on her. Doug & Julie fell in love. Everyone knows the rest of this story.

I liked when Felicia was over the top and was more Felicia the writer than Felicia the mother figure. Personal taste as always. For me, Felicia was AW to me. She was one of the few constants on a show that was constantly changing.

RIP Denise Alexander. I always liked her on the show despite her storyline never reaching its full potential. The sad thing is I would watch that storyline in a second over so much of what happened on AW from 1986 onwards. Strangely, youtube recommended a AW episode to me last night that involved Mary comforting Scott about Dawn. I really do wish they had found a way to make those two characters work long term.
