Nancy Marchand's (Irene Kimbalt) role ended the beginning of April. Muriel Williams (Helen Moore) left in March. Beverlee McKinsey began on April 27 as Emma Ordway, sister-in-law of Steve Frame (George Reinholt).

Given that we were talking about Mary Matthews, I thought this article on viewer complaints from the October 1976 Daytime TV was interesting. They mention what I hadn't even thought of - quite a few viewers were convinced Virginia Dwyer had died on air.

Emma Ordaway was Steve's sister

Ada was very different than Mary, personality-wise, and didn't project warm tolerance and maternal instinct on a regular basis. Ada was more in your face, more ballsy, and a lot more...loud, LOL. She was a well-loved and enduring character, but she was different.

I have an episode of AW from 1969 (I think), in which Mary Matthews finds out that her son Russ' "son", Jamie, was actually fathered by Steven Frame. Virginia Dwyer really hit it out of the park; she went berserk, shrieking about Rachel, "I hate her! I...HATE...HER!!!" It was actually scary to witness how mad she went. When folks now question Dwyer's talent, thanks mainly to Lemay's complaining about her changing his scripts, I always think back to the show's earlier days, when she had meaty material to play, and did so quite well. I watched her for 11 years as Mary Matthews, and in my assessment, she was a credible performer.

Please share that video if you have it. Did not see much of Virgina's work

A clip from a 1985 Australian airing of AW. Mostly that whole dust story, and Daphne - I'd never seen a lot of AW from this time so hadn't seen her before. I think I like that brief clip of Felicia best - Dano draws you in even in that snippet.

The thug threatening Jake and Marley - he's done a lot of other work. Wasn't he the abusive mayor on OLTL a few years ago (among many other shows)?

Chip Albers, or someone using his name for an account, uploaded some clips where Albers played young Michael. Who played young Donna? She reminds me of Eliza from Survivor. Her Donna does get better as the clips go along.

Ever since finishing Harding Lemay's book, I have really wanted to get into Another World. It is hard to find a starting point. I was wondering, did Jamie Frame and Dennis Carrington keep their close friendship over the years. I hate it when Soaps loose out on building on childhood relationships as young characters are SORASD at different rates.

Jamie and Dennis were the best of friends during the 70's. I may add, sorry, not very attractive teens and in 1979, they went to a dude ranch and came back played by grown up hot actors. Pretty much after that, I dont think their friendship as adults was so great. 25th anniversary made a point for the characters to meet up and share a talk but Larry Lau was playing Jamie at this point. Jim Poyner, the grouwn up Dennis Carrington was graceful enough to return to his role.

He is very critical of Courtney in novel for her acting abilities and inability to memorize lines. This was obviously something that she carried with her to OLTL as Bob Woods once mentioned you could never shake her hand because she had the script written between her fingers. I noticed he goes on that Alice was played by a more capable actress who could act what he wrote, but did not go on about her by name. Figuring that Courtney was extremely popular, I could not forsee the recast having been well accepted.

It was to my relief that one of my favorite actresses, Susan Sullivan, is portrayed in a very good light in the novel.

In reality, there was no actress who captured what he wanted. I think he had it out fo Courtney but I must say, she was not so great but she was adored by her fans. The same writer and producer who fired her, hired Welseley Ann Pfenning in 1979 as the thrid actress to play the role and sorry that was a big mistake. she was gone not even 6 months later

It's too bad they didn't bring Poyner back in 1991, instead of wooden Chris Bruno.

Poyner was only marginally less wooden than Bruno. I missed a lot of mid-80s AW, so some of this YouTube material is brand-new to me. Thanks!
