If that's you when you're drunk, Cashton, then you need to go to your local liquor store and stock up immediately.

Awww. Khan. :D This shot's for you! My friends think i'm crazy for posting on a soap forum board while we hang, but I don't care.

Ok, folks, here's my drunk opus about Mary Jane.

So many think she's going to be a villain-of-the-month and a small blip on the radar. I think she'll be one of Y&R's most infamous villainesses ever. Why? Cause of Stacy Haiduk. Today's episode showed me that. With her scenes with Phyllis, she was supposed to brainstorm new ideas for Jabot and RS. She gave up and went immediately to Jack. Her almost child-like innocence was brilliant. She's still the geek wanting to get her Prince - Jack. The vulnerability SH gives is off-the-charts. When she first appeared with Victor, telling him all about how she liked Jack eating-out-of-her-hand, the thrill of it, i could tell she was not your ordinary soap villainess. She has a heart and her jealousy and resentment is her weakness.

Please keep in mind, we don't know what's happened to her in these 25+ years she's been away. She's going to be very sympathetic when we learn everything. And when she falls in love with someone other than Jack - when "that guy" (who I have no clue will be ) finds something remarkable in her and falls truly in love with her, we'll get a well-rounded woman who won't end up in some sweeps event thought dead - we'll get a woman who is very much like all the soap heroines, just mad about love and who wants to be loved.

With SH in the role, I think she can become as popular as Phyllis, who was once evil and manipulative (and who now is the most popular character according to SOD polls). Paul is important - her brother is the moral center of the show. I can see a friendship with Nikki blooming. Bottom line - she's got issues and she's going to do terible things, but I see her as being an integral character for Y&R in the future. Only time will tell , but I'm loving her performance and the writing thus far for her.

I'm not so sure about that, it took years for MS/Phyllis to get to the point she is now. I understand people like SH, I think she's been pretty good thus far, but she's got a long way to go. I have yet to see any real range in her performances. To be fair, she hasn't had the opportunity, but I think it takes several years to take a psychotic manipulative character and make them likeable, rootworthy and empathetic (three characters come to mind and it took them quite a while to build their fanbases - Michelle's Phyllis, Gina's Dinah and Maura's Carly). It takes a certain type of writing, and really, we don't even know if MAB is interested in turning her into that type of character (I'm not convinced she is, if anything I think she's going to start grooming Chloe to be similar to Phyllis). Whether or not MJ becomes sympathetic depends on how far they take her and their reasons for her actions (and whether SH can play it, not saying she can't, I've just never seen her prior to Y&R and as of yet she's pretty much just played the slightly crazy beats).

First, there was drunk-dialing; then, there was drunk-e-mailing and texting; and now, drunk post-ing.

Seriously, Cashton, are you and your friends that bored (to be sitting around)? Why, when I was your age, we made the most of our inebriated states! (I tell ya, kids these days....)

i appreciate your open-mindedness to her and skepticism as well. You're absoultely right in the fact that she could be temporary, and it does take a long time to rehab baddies. There's also the possibility that she could become boring (Jana), but as an actor, SH is doing things I haven't seen before. Her final look today just made me go - WOW. i can see the little things (which is how i figured out she was who she was in the first place) and i also can see big things for her in the future.

We'll just have to wait and see. But she keeps me glued to Y&R (at the moment) and I'm sure I can't be the only one, right?

Of course not! I'm sure the plaid elephants you're seeing right now w/ all that booze agree she's peachy-keen, too. ;)

Yeah, I mean anything is possible, I'm just not sure right now how I think MAB feels about her. I can't really get a handle on whether MAB wants to inves that much time in the character after her true identity is revealed. Also, I don't know how much room there is for 'another Phyllis' especially in the same age group as Michelle, on the show. Initially I was very hard on SH, but I quickly warmed up to her and liked her thus far, but I just think I have to see more of her to really say that I see that type of potential in the character.

For the record, I never really saw that type of potential in Jana lol. Emily's good, but she was always missing something for me.

Habit?

I find that sad. really really sad. Habit? If people hate something as much as some people here hate soaps they are watching IMHO they should quit. Find a hobby, take a walk, take a nap. turn the channel and watch something different. But then again, im one of those kinda so happy its annoying people usually. I just let the bad stuff go and embrace the good. Life is to great to waste hours watching a show i hate and then even more posting about how much i hate it.

:D

Believe it or not, there are a few things that I enjoy and appreciate about Y&R right now. For instance, the Murphy/Katherine relationship. It truly is refreshing to see an "older" couple falling in love after dealing with life's ups and downs; it just might give some hope to those who might be as old as they are, yet feel that time and love have passed by.

Also, even though I'm not the world's biggest Adam fan, I am intrigued by his continued attempts to re-ingratiate himself into Victor's life, including his feigned blindness, and his possible connection to Ashley's gaslighting. (I still suspect he might be behind the whole thing.) As I said upthread, Adam's about the only person on the canvas these days who is proving himself to be a formidable nemesis for TGVN. More so than Nick, who always comes across as some petulant child, threatening to hold his breath until "Daddy" caves in.

Having said that, though, there's still much about the show that I don't like or care for. I still think the Billy/Chloe relationship is contrived, old-fashioned and outdated. I still think the Patty Jane saga is predictable. And I still think that the Winterses are boring; that the Nick/Sharon/Phyllis triangle is "unrootable", regardless of whichever side you fall upon; that characters like Cane, Lily, Colleen, Amber, and Daniel are sucking up valuable airtime that should go toward characters who've earned it; and that the Fisher-Baldwins are cancerous and need to be excised A-SAP.

In the end, I think it's fantastic to have as many views as possible about, well, any subject, and not just Y&R. My only wish is that all views and arguments receive equal consideration (something even I will cop to struggling with from time to time), and not to have one post-er's opinion(s) shot down just because the majority happens to think differently, or the post-er-in-question has a reputation on the threads which is less than sterling. We don't have to agree, obviously, and none of us should make swaying the "other side" to ours the only goal; but most of us (again, myself included) need to exercise a little more patience, tolerance and respect toward others. (And if that fails, then just add 'em to your "Ignore User(s)" List and move on.)

That's all I have to say about that subject, really.

THIS POST!

This is fantastic. Its amazing. Im gonna label it EPIC.

And complete and utter word to everything! Esp the last bit, but ill get back to that.

I honestly couldnt agree with you more re the storyline. However, they really dont bother me. And this is why... Ok, well the billy/chloe thing does bother me because its so forced and such a plot point and a stupid one that doesn't work at that. The only good thing bout that is Billy Miller & Liz H are fantastic and work hard to try and make it at least watchable. I am able to enjoy the performances. The Patty Jane storyline is predictable for me in the means of who she is, obvious Patty. Manny have thought it since she came onto the show. But for me im not viewing the story s a mystery as to who this women is, but rather what shes going to do. The winters suck, nothing more to say about that. The triangle... i agree 100% that you cant root for anybody in it, however they are all so fascinating to watch for me. these three people just keep [!@#$%^&*] up their lives and loves and i find it rather compelling.I also for the first time ever somewhat care about Sharon. I agree with you on all those characters, except Daniel/Amber. I really think those two are magical when they are on screen together and have something good to play and wish the show would ply them up again. I fully agree about the fisher-baldwins too.

So everything isnt perfect for me, i have a lot of things i wish would be tweeked, but for me there is nothing i find unwatchable and there is plenty of stuff im loving. But again, thats just my view. Also, i think a lot of it has to do with how you view the storyline. Someone see the Ashley and the Mary Jane storyline as a mystery to solve, for me im almost certain Adam is gas lighting Ash and MJ is patty, so for me its more about whats next. there are they taking this. what gonna be the fallout, etc...

I so love your last part here. I agree. I wish we all could respect each others views and opinions and discuss things. Im not saying im mr perfect poster by far, but there are so many personal attacking and calling out and mocking of other posters its kind of sad. If you dont like a poster that much, ignore them. (i know i could practice what i preach, yet im sure ill still get called out for this...)

i wish more posters disagreed the way you do. Youy're a sweetheart. And I don't know how long SH's contract is. I just see something remarkable about her that could be WOW, or like you, something that could be POW - she's gone now. But again, as an actor, i see all the beats she's playing and her reactions are not typical soap actress. If MJ was played by a lesser actress, I'd be in the same boat as everyone else, but I see she's got SO much to portray/reveal in the role that is bursting out. Ok - I'm done. Good night all! i'm going swimming.

WORD to everything!

Haiduk is great. I actually wish she'd been a Diane recast.

Maybe MJ is Diane?

LOL! I drunk post all the time. I blame the iPhone. and drunk + myspace/facebook = worse than drunk dialing.

One time i was at a club and seen a soap star. I busted out the phone, went to my message bord and posting when dancing. yes i am obsessed. lol.

Ah, to be young (and s**t-faced) again.

you dont have to be young to be f****dup! lol

On Vail's mole, I actually think it compliments her. I saw keep it, it is something defining about her....

Yes, definitely.

Haiduk is great. I actually wish she'd been a Diane recast.

She's amazing! Not so sure on the Diane thing, but she's playing Patty Jane just great.

Maybe MJ is Diane?

But Diane flew a jet already... but still, who knows what could have happened to her, and she could by lying about half of the stuff...

  • Member
you dont have to be young to be f****dup!

True, but if/when you do after the age of, oh, twenty-five? It's not as fun anymore -- and in fact, it's really sad.

  • Member

EXACTLY!

You cant use anything she has said as fact. Altho, who did she say that too? Victor? because Victor would know Diane has been on jet.
