DAYS Patch and Kayla

Someone who loves me signed me up for the SOD insider (newsletter for subscribers). I guess my status as a soap-lover is known?

Anyway, there was no "Patch and Kayla exit interview", so I found this promo snippet interesting:

Stephanie Sloane: Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans (ex-Steve and ex-Kayla) last aired on DAYS on February 17 and since then, the Digest offices have been inundated with gifts and cards imploring the show to bring them back. Because of the overwhelming response to their exits, I got in touch with the actors and talked to them about leaving Salem. It's the cover story of this week's issue and Nichols and Evans spoke openly and honestly about saying good-bye. "I wasn't surprised because things are just changing so rapidly there," Evans says. "They were making big cuts and I know they had huge financial constraints." "The support and the story had not been there since Ed Scott [former co-executive producer] was let go which, by the way, was a huge mistake," Nichols says. For more, including what projects they're already working on, check out the next issue of Digest.

Can someone explain to me why SOD's offices are inundated? Why do these fan campaigns immediately go to the magazines?! The shows don't care how much stuff the magazine office receives.

ehhh,

Honestly? Days from day to day now is the ebst its been since the beginning of this decade. I know Ed Scott is loved by many, and he did do great things at Days. Many many great things actually, but with what all apparently went down, and the fact that the show seems to actually being run well, im gonna have to disagree.

Furthermore, letting go of MBE & SN was a good move. The return was a bust. The chem wasn't there like it use too. I still don't know why they thought it would be a good idea. They tried to reunite them on GH and it didnt work, IMHO. I do wish that they would have never brought him back and just Kayla because MBE and Kayla both worked so well.

That said, he very well could mean Ed Scott was great behind the scenes, like on the set. We as fans always seem to disagree with actors or writers who say something, not putting into the contect they met it. Example: If a writer says they loved writing a certain storyline it doesn't mean they thought that story was great in the way it played out on the screen of the show. Or an actor may have loved something we hated. But then again, with all rumblings about him encouraging stars to rewrite things and the drama that it seems he created behind the scenes of Days i have to wonder..

and yes im fully aware 99% of SON with disagree and bash everything i said apart.

Now you know how i feel about Y&R! lol.

In theory I would take Allison Sweeney as headwriter and Ed Scott ANYDAY over the completely average Dena Higley and Gary Tomlin. (Not a fan of her writing- or his writing. Not a fan of his OLTL, other than the Trading Places episode, which holds up to this day- hilarious)

But i don't watch Days- Dena and Gary seem to be good at offering a consistency. There is no " this is amazing", "this is AWFUL" (like OLTL). It is just a consistent soap that makes you want to see what happens next. It doesn't piss you off, or particularly knock your socks off either.

And i don't think 99% of the people here will disagree with you. Of the 3 boards I check out, everyone seems to be enjoying Days. Tried it for a few days and did nothing for me, it never really did.

I think that's more what he meant. Scott seemed to be really well-respected on the set, and people liked working with him (a far cry from the Y&R rumors when he worked there). He also seemed to have an open-door policy. I hear that even though the show is tighter now, run like a well-oiled machine, and there's no behind-the-scenes fighting, it feels like it did when Wyman was there. Very "closed door". Everybody keeps their heads down, etc.

I don't know which way is better anymore. The whole Days situation now just boggles my mind. LOL!

yeah, i figured thats what he met.

you could def see the actors loved working with him, it showed on screen.

Now if onyl we could days ran like it is now with an ep that inspired the cast and brought them to life. i mean, when you get Nadia B to seem like she has some kind of an idea of what shes doing thats pretty freakin epic! and Scott did that.

as for what way works better.. i dont think there is an answer, obsly for the cast the scott way.

for me as a viewer? and perhaps others based on raings and boards - the closed door way.

idk. i really dont. i do know this - behind the scenes of days this decade has always been much more appealing than on the screen.

i agree, and i do think that is 80% of the reason Days is working right now.

Or they might like him because he wrote their initial story with Ava.

After Scott was fired, Patch and Kayla were backburned severely.

HAHAHA!

so true.

are we sure it was him? not sweeney? alfonso? MBE or SN? the mop man? the camera guy?

Wow, I think you guys are being VERY kind to today's DAYS. For me, that show is brain-numbingly dull. It's the same six or seven characters saying the same things to each other day after day after day.

I still can't believe that whiny, obnoxious waste of space Melanie continues to be such a focal point. Ugh. The idea that a scheming little girl like her would even SHOW UP on Stefano's radar defies logic.

I agree with you, Aaron. But the show has its fans now, who stand by it faithfully. And hey - as long as it keeps Days on the air, in whatever form, and their ratings stay up? Let them have the same six or seven characters saying the same things to each other day after day after day.

At this point, I'm just happy the cancellation rumors have stopped and SOMEBODY out there is getting enjoyment out of it. Even if it's not me.

Weirdly... I agree. I am contradicting myself: both GL and DOOL are sh!t, in some way incomparable, but whereas I wanted to see GL cancelled, I don't want that for DOOL.
