Members Andrew
US Best soap, having Jeanne Cooper, who turns 81, this year, right? Great to see her so high up, at number 1, simply great, more soaps should treat it`s veterans and olders stars like this. Thanks for this list!. Members lmfan
Y & R should get credit for having 80 yr old Jeanne Cooper leading story, but they do not treat all their vets equally or fairly. The episode counts for the year for some of their very talented and long term vets are ridiculously low. A case of the haves and the have nots. I prefer when Y & R is more balanced. Members Adam
Oh my, how awesome is that to have Jeanne #1!!! Eat your heart out Brian Frons!
Members Ry1
More Kate Linder this year than Judith Chapman - whoa, we've definitely got a new sheriff in town with MAB. And Jess Walton in more than 1/2 of the episodes this year. WOW!
Members sheilaforever
Firstly the show has GREAT balance. Second, look at what amazing and great actors battle for the top spots. This is how it is supposed to be. There's no playing favorites anymore...

Members lmfan
But what about characters like Lauren who is written out for six of seven weeks (five weeks and going as of this week) and only in 13 episodes this year? What about all of the Winters? I don't like their story but that is the writers' fault and Neil deserves more than 13 episodes? What about Paul, JT, and Victoria. I admit I am a big Michael and Lauren fan and Maria Bell's writing for them has sucked since she took over because she does not even try to write for them, does not give them any romance and makes little effort to use them as anything other than props. And it isn't like they were a favorite of LML either. She just used them as props more than Maria Bell does. Some may find them fine as supporting characters, but these two are fine actors and their talents are being wasted. And Tracey Bregman isn't even used as a dayplayer let alone a supporting player. If you are a fan of some of these actors, then it does feel like Maria plays favorites just like it felt that way when LML played favorites with the quad, Gloria and even Victor and Nikki at times. Members sheilaforever
All named characters/actors with the exception of Paul - & Lauren if written not as desperate housewive No.1 - lack the charisma to make them lead. They all can't push stories by themselves and depend on other characters to make them appealing enough. Hence MAB has focused on other characters so far = great decidison on her pat. Members DaytimeFan
Precisely. And to be honest, Paul and Lauren have been supporting characters for at least a decade, if not more. Pushing them to the lead would be disastrous if they themselves weren't supported properly. I like the character of Lauren, just not as Michael's wife. I like Paul...but he's such an island character if he's not involved with Nikki or Victor. Hopefully story will come for them, but I think it's wise that if the conditions aren't there, which, currently, they aren't, they stay on the backburner. Lest we forget that Jess, Jeanne, Eric and Melody were all backburned by Jack Smith. Fans of Lauren and Michael simply have to realize that they're experiencing what fans of Kay, Jill, Nikki and Victor experienced under Jack Smith and to a lesser extent under that hack bitch from the depths of hell LML. Members lmfan
Who is asking them to push story? I just want to see them at least twice a week and yes my my focus is on Lauren, Paul and Neil because they deserve better than to be given 12 or 13 episodes in three months. I would think it stinks if any talented vet has been treated like these three be it Katherine, Jill, Nikki, etc. I especially don't like it when my favorite. Lauren, is written off for five weeks, given two episodes in seven weeks and very little effort by the writers since they took over in Dec. 2007. MAB can focus on her favorites, and I really like the Katherine story at this point, but she should not ignore veterans that fans enjoy just so she can add characters like Mac that are just not needed at this time. People also like Michael and Lauren as a couple and Neil and Paul as characters. How hard would it be to use these actors and characters two times a week, even as support? Not very. Members ReddFoxx
The other soaps should take a cue from Y&R and put some of their vets front and center every once and awhile. ATWT has great vets, but barely uses them and that is a show that could really benefit from having a frontburner storyline with one of their vets.
