I think the dialogue about the product is the most awkward, obviously because it diminishes the point of the scene.

Oh that was my complete point--especially when they say the name and say something about how good it makes them feel etc. No one talks liek that--to have the objects around is fine (though lately we've had piles of v8 etc in an unrealistic way)

Just goes to show how soap writing these days lacks finesse. And as Another Poster said, it's so like OLTL to wink wink play it up to the audience that they're being cheesy and plugging the product, but they can't even do that without being annoying. It's like hearing namaste for the 137th time in one week. That wasn't funny the first time. But be real with it, you know, "Blah Blah Blah my terrible life... And why the hell do you have all this soup??" (closeup on soup, labels clear) / "Oh... the people from the ball..."/ "Mm. Better you than me, I never liked tomato soup." / "Well you should. the way you eat... It's good, I made a grilled cheese and ate it with..." / "Eww." /"(sucks teeth) Whatever, you don't know good food. She sent some chicken noodle and some other kinds too." / "Oh..." / "No, but the lady, well doctor, excuse me, she was telling me about heart disease in women cuz I told her about my mom, and how good tomatoes are for you  ... and you, with your history you could afford to eat better, help yourself out a bit. You need to take some cans with you when you go." / " <_< I will." / "So what did so-and-so say about blahzee blah...?"

You know what show has product placement? 90210.

At school the kids have cans of dr pepper on the lunch tray. At the peachpit the soda machine has a dr pepper logo and there are dr pepper logos on the table next to menu's.

They have done some other stuff.

One Tree Hill did it well to with sunkist. Peyton put together a benefit tour or something like that sponsored by sunkist and would give them a shout out during the concerts or when trying tog et others to donate/be a part of it. She also rocked a shirt they sent her.

Someone asking "would you like a v8?" isnt bad. But doing a full on commercial during the soap? thats annoying.

Product placement is fine. Product PIMPING, however is annoying.

It's just a matter of time before Adam Chandler rips off his clothes, pours Prego all over himself and moans "Ooohh! Ahhhh! I feel like such a MAN So...strong. So...virile!! It's like Viagra but with vine ripened tomatoes and the perfect blend of herbs!! Uhhhhh!"

If you want to see a show do product placement terrifically, check out last night's episode of 30 Rock. It was perfect. But they have the benefit of being a comedy.

I remember a screen cap from Eddie's AW site of Louise cleaning with a P&G spray bottle in her hand. Subtle but effective I guess, I mean if she cleans Rachel and Mac's windows at the mansion with that stuff maybe it'll do wonders for my hovel...

Some shows have it easy, I was watching that ice skating movie with Will Ferrel and Jon Heder and seeing as how it often took place on the rink, advertisements were all around the place just as they'd be in real life.

You know what also would have been better? Remember the scene on OLTL where Starr walks into the Llanfair kitchen to see Jessica - and Starr was down in the dumps and Jessica (quite credibly, to give her credit) offers her some soup to make her feel better?

"Soup? You really ARE crazy, Jessica. SOUP isn't going to help me. My baby died, your baby - born on the same day - is starring me in the face, and you think soup is going to help me? I don't care if it's heart smart, it doesn't fix dead babies and sociopathic fathers." .... But Cambell's wants viewers to believe it does! ;)

Next time Natalie stomps in and whines about Tess keeping her locked in a room because of her & Jared killing Jess's husband ("But we didn't mean to kill him... Ooops!!!"), I hope Jessica offers her some steaming hot Campbell's soup... right in her face.

"Product placement, Natalie."
