Unexplained plot points

LOVIN' GL, think of it as second ONLY to YnR in terms of what's rockin' in daytime right now. I said that to say this: Even with good soaps, weird things happen. During yesterday's fight between Alan and Beth, Alan told her that she'd always be a Spaulding (the name her children share and the love of her life - Phillip, Alan's son). Her response was to scream that she's a RAINES. Cute, given that the actor playing Alan is actually named Ron Raines... SCARY because the name belonged to Beth's stepfather, the man who raped her and beat her and her mother.

I wondered if this was part of an upcoming plot point to help explain why Beth has become such a bizarre character - still dealing with issues related to Bradley. Now Phillip, the man who rescued her from Bradly RAINES is returning. Hopefully, it's not just that writers are ignorant about Beth's history with the man.

OLTL - Marty is drinking pretty heavily. Has anyone brought up her medical history? Whatever happened to the Lupus storyline that brought Viki and Marty together? They became close once Marty was diagnosed (not long after Megan died) and Viki helped her stopped drinking then. Again, makes me wonder if the writers are unaware of the character's history (or did we find out she was misdiagnosed and I missed it) or if her illness will be used later.

OLTL - Lee Halpern/Janet Ketring/Carol Lee Dennison. No one mentions that she was once Carol Lee. Is that intenntional until they're ready to use it? Will her former identity and connection to Viki through Joe Riley's twin Tom, later play a role?

Could Wes possibly be Tom's kid?

He mentioned that he doesn't know where his father is. Is Tom somewhere on the streets in Llanview? He was married to until he found out she was one of Renee's girls. Carol/Lee/Janet could have met up with him agian, once he was married to Wes' mother and as punishment for him dumping her, she took everything he had. Will Carol/Lee's connection to Mendorra somehow play a role in all of this? (Tom didn't die, right? He just moved away).

Good point. I don't know how veteran viewers would feel about a recast, but I wouldn't mind, at this point. Tom could come back to town and once his connections to Wes and Janet/Lee/Carol are revealed, you just know John McBain would start investigating the Wes. John would probably figure out the whole shooting in Iraq thing, too, knowing the writers.

It can't be Tony -- or at least it shouldn't be. Back in 2001, during Greta's Coronation, Austin asked her (as they looked out into the crowd) if she could see her father in the room, and she said "yes." Tony was still presumed dead in 2001.

Meanwhile, what the hell was in Stefano's freezer back in 1998? Did we ever find out?

I can answer one of them, Frankie is Celeste real name and Caroline knows her from the past. Caprice also called her frankie. speaking of Caprice, what in the hell happened to her and the storyline she had with Celeste. She had something on Celeste and i be damn if she wasnt frighten. Days also had a black resturant owner on the show one time during the brandon, sami and larry the african american guy in the wheelchair. What happen to him? explain the four Marlenas. I am sorry so many questions, but so many memories.

It was back during the Possession story. I believe Stefano was planning to whisk Marlena away to find out what was happening to her, and in order to send the police on a wild goose chase away from the real Marlena, he created a bunch of clones to travel to different parts of the globe. Pretty stupid.

    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
