wondering what do you enjoy more? CBS who focusses on the vetrain cast member's and more on storylines or ABC which is more plot and the yonger generation cast memeber's

as a fan of Y&R and the B&B I can't stand the constant plot plot plot ABC soaps plus everytime I turn on GH I don't reconize any of the actors unlike at the Y&R where the cast member's/actors have been with the soap for ever thats my type of soap

whats your preffernce CBS or ABC?

B&B's biggest weakness is that it focuses too much on its vetearan cast members. Eric/Stephanie/Ridge/Brooke are ALWAYS frontburner. They rarely ever get a rest and it gets tiring. Alot of good characters get pushed to the side and actors get wasted. It would be alright if there was more balance but sadly there isnt much

Out of the ABC soaps, OLTL tends to have a heavier emphasis on the vets and AMC has been better about that as well. I much prefer this network's soaps. Always have as its what Ive been brought up on.

That really only applies to Y&R and a lesser degree B&B. ATWT and especially GL are revolving doors with constant recasts and newbies.

I'll agree with you on ATWT. That's why I couldn't watch it anymore. But a majority of GL's cast has been there for many years. Plus, last I heard, GL was getting ready to dump most of the new "characters". I don't know anything about ABC soaps though, so it'd be hard for me to make the comparison of CBS v. ABC.

Oh you knew I would have to add:

ABC SOAPS ARE THE CHEAPEST AND UGLIEST AND MOST TERRIBLY LIT SHOWS EVER.

The crown jewel GH looks the worst. The women don't even wear makeup.

(OLTL is generally pretty- with the exception of the Angel Square Hotel, Marcie and Michael's brown apartment, and La Boule, which is lit as brightly as AMC, which I believe is a sign of the crews absolute hatred of Robin Strasser who reportedly treats the crew like garbage- And that's how a lighting designer can have his revenge- by making you look like crap).

Can I add one other thing, I have never watched ATWT for more than 5-10 minutes here and there, but its on after B&B. I find it very cozy looking. The sets seem very small but very homey. Not cheap at all.)

Other than that, CBS sucks too. lollllll

Y&R and B&B aren't CBS to me. They are Bell shows. Maria Bell and Paul Rauch can basically tell CBS to f-ck off- and get away with it. Y&R will be on the air for the next 20 years, long after all the other soaps have left.

I know a lot of us don't even really notice the background music, but the CBS shows' soapy instrumental music is 100 times better than ABC's.

And ABC always cuts to commercial very abruptly -- CBS 99% of the time slowly fades to commercial. The fade looks so much better on Soaps.

I hate that abrupt commercial cuts as well. The fades are much more classier. ABC tends to focus on younger folks, there sets more eye catching and youthful looking. ( I really like AMC's club set)

CBS's are more traditional. I myself perfer CBS to ABC.

Not only that ABC"S soaps openings all look and feel the same.

Then again ATWT doesn't even have one no more. AND Y&R's need an update.

    • Love this! You are both adorable. Wow
    • I have not gone back to watch much of 1987, but from what I've seen lately, it doesn't feel like the writers or producers had any sort of plan. The show feels as if it's constantly in flux.  I will give it credit for this. It's watchable for the most part minus Lisa/Jamie which I find nearly unwatchable now.   I don't find Cheryl mousy. I think she has a lot of quiet strength, but she was saddled with the Scott romance which the writers did not invest in. She had a good friendship with Julie (also criminally underused), and her interactions with Ada were enjoyable as well. I also like Layman, but Spencer was extremely talented and when Cass returns, Schnetzer and Spencer have some wonderful scenes. Spencer also fits in with Alexander, Hogan, and Marie.  I'd forgotten just how much I missed seeing Wallingford. IT was so good to see him again. Even when they didn't have a major plot, Felicia/Cass/Wallingford/Mitch always brings a smile to my face.

    • NBC must have been grateful to have LHOTP, it's only hit and still strong after several seasons. Their next established show was Rockford Files at 45th. They didn't develop any comedies and relied on movies and mini series  which didnt establish viewer loyalty and habits. Their only new hit was mid season's Project UFO which debuted Feb up against Rhoda/On Our Own on CBS and How the West Was Won on ABC. It opened with a strong 36 share beating CBS and close to ABC as HTWWW had a 36 share over 3 hours. The next week UFO saw a respectable 32 share, then a 31 so it was slipping. A 28 share followed but a few weeks later it jumped back up to a 34. So no blockbuster but compared to what else they had, there was potential, So next season NBC sent it to Thursday up against Mork and The Waltons and it bombed.  They were smart to see potential in Chips, which took off on Saturdaysnext season. ABC was on a roll with Love Boat, 3's Company, Taxi, Eight is Enough adding to their hits. Their only real flops were Redd Foxx and San Pedro Beach Bums, an Aaron Spelling misfire. Like Redd Foxx, Harvey Korman was lured to ABC but his series was a filler that did well but was considered a time slot hit. Nancy Walker and Rob Reiner were also given series on the philosophy that not only were they popular names, their absence from popular shows like Sanford, Rhoda and All in the Family might weaken those shows. CBS were relying on old favorites. Betty White was strong the first few weeks then faded. Incredible Hulk was their strongest newbie. It was lucky for CBS that NBC was doing so badly or else some of their weaker shows would have really suffered.
    • That outfit looks like something Martin would wear lol.
    • Omg not we both ran into people from the show this weekend!
    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.
