Members DavidEvanSmith
Aren't we all screaming for more character-driven drama? I wish they would have gone there! I was kind of inspired by a Golden Girls episode I saw not too long ago where Rose (Betty White) was addicted to pain pills for years and didn't realize it! They forced Rose to go to rehab and everything! One of those rare "serious" episodes. And I bet Patricia Elliott would ROCK the storyline, she's so amazing. Members brimike
Oh, I'd be all about it, DES! Absolutely! (Well... I'm not sure if Eddie could handle it, but that's just my opinion... I know he has his fans... otherwise I'd love it!) But I can just see Frons and his focus groups' reactions to a seventy year old and a thirteen year old in front burner scenes. Members marceline
What you're describing is gritty and realistic, a very risky, ripped from the headlines kind of story and something moderns soaps have been lacking. That would've been so cool but that's definitely not a Carlivati story.
Members aMLCproduction
WEED is a plant not a drug. And its not that big of a deal. A lot of people smoke trees. A lot professionals do that I know. This weed thing on OLTL to me is like YAWN. A better story would be METh and some times WEED does NOT lead to other drugs. At least for me it didn't lol
Members Dr. Jay S.W.
Ripped from the headlines is a good thing? Dena Higley was the QUEEN of that. Can anyone say Laci Peterson?? That is not soap opera.
Members aMLCproduction
Ripped from the headlines, isn't that what Agnes nixon did with OLTL and AMC in the 70's
Members marceline
Ripped from the headlines can be great or revolting depending on the writer. The Billy Douglass story was "ripped from the headlines." If soaps don't look at current events for story ideas, then they stay stuck in the realm of back from the dead, amnesia, who's the daddy garbage. And while I know a lot of people would be thrilled to stay in the safe fuzzy land of "classic soapiness" there's a whole lot of people who aren't interested. Some people want a soap filled with fantasy, others want a soap based in reality. I'm in the latter group.
Members All My Shadows
If it's life, it's soap opera. A good writer could easily do a story like that and make it amazing.

Members koos
I believe it's been scientifically proven recently that the gateway drug theory is false, too.

Members marceline
Yeah, I don't think anybody is trying to float the idea that Higley is a good writer.
