I just watched the episode, and what an ending. It was perfect. The sweeping music and the voice-overs were great. I always love it when they incorporate the poem into the show.

Loved seeing Agnes too - she was great.

The brief Eileen Herlie memorial was well done too. I liked how they used a few pictures of her instead of just flashing her name on the screen.

The Canadian feed here on A Channel didn't have ANY in memory to Eileen... where was it in the show? Was it just text? Or did I miss it--I fastforward commercials. *confused* is it on youtube?

Which exactly what the 20th anniversary episode was (Pheobe, Ruth, Joe and Erica I think snowed in at the Martin's looking threough photo albums)

When did they start saying the poem on air anyway? I had a feeling it was a relatively new tradition--like maybe from the late 90s even... (I know the poem existed in the original bible).

I know i'm being annoying but I'm pretty sure A Channel missed the Eileen tribute--what was it exactly?

They've said it earlier than the late '90s. Dr. Joe recited it in 1990 at the end of the 20th Anniversary Special:

The Eileen tribute: It was at the very start, before the actual episode began. They flashed a few photos of Eileen as Myrtle, and then the words In Loving Memory... Eileen Herlie... 1918-2008

I mentioned this in another thread (or was it this one?), but I think the poem has been read on air for times:

1) Joe, 20th anniv.

2) Edmund (ugh)-I forget, but he recited it as a toast, was it at a wedding or a ball coinciding with the 30th? I can see him standing there...

3) Bianca, 35th anniv. (in a letter from Mona)

4) various, 10,000th ep

Maybe Joe had another one in there somewhere??

I love it when they recite the poems, instant tears here on my part. I do think Edmund said it at the 30th Anniversary Crystal Ball. Though AMC has been long over due for a good clip show, I don't think the 10,000 episode the way it was written was the place. It was such a beautiful episode all around. Like someone mentioned, the highlights of the family moments, the one true asset to AMC, really brought the episode home for me. Those family units, they are my All My Children.

Flashbacks for this episode!?!? Really. They wouldn't have worked, as the town was reflecting on tornados that touched down three weeks prior. How would they incorporate them!? Erica: "I almost was trapped and killed in the tornado, my home was destroyed, and my daughter is a coma, so let's get together for this moment of silence -- but wait! Remember the time when I modeled in New York? Or how about the time I chased down the grizzly bear. That s-h-i-t- was CRAZY."

Personally, I thought the episode was great, and Rebecca Taylor, even though she is a lackluster script writer, rocked the sh.t out of this particular episode. I haven't seen such great family moments and genuine (not cheesy) sentiment on soap opera for a long time. It was a great way to move the story, give some real and honest REFLECTION (and semi-closure) to the events the tornado brought, but it was incredibly uplifting and optimistic in the tone...looking towards the future.

My favorite moment of the whole episode was that Agnes looked directly into the camera when she said "You are AMC." Made me feel like I'm one of Agnes's churn too.

Eh. I'm gonna sip some kool-aid and say that Agnes was ghostwriting for that hack because of all the propping and whitewashing.

But seriously, folks. The only touching part of this episode was the ending.

I Kept Telling People Over and Over and Over that This was Not An Anniversary Show where they might do Flashbacks. This was THE 10,000th Episode. Some People even Wanted it to go Several Days and Again I said This was The 10,000th Episode so it can only be 1 Day. Personally, I Loved It. Jody
