DAYS FANS REJOICE!

Days of Our Lives has been renewed!

An inside source has revealed exclusively to Daytime Royalty that NBC and Sony have worked out a 2 year deal that will keep "Days Of Our Lives," NBC's longest-running daytime drama, on the air through May 2011. No details of the deal or when the announcement will be made public, but expect it very soon.

The show will celebrate its 43rd anniversary on Nomember 8, 2008.

Congratulations to the cast and crew!

Good, but I don't trust NBC. Didn't they cancel Passions a few months after they claimed it was renewed or something? Anyway, I hope the show can turn itself around, if it should go off the air in 2011. We don't need to see any soaps being canceled, especially not now.

Let me quote myself here because I want people to hear this and I am an egomaniac:

I looked in on this today for the first time in what felt like years and while the writing still sucks, what occurs to me, as it has before, is you had a scene with Bo, Roman, NuMickey, Kayla, and Caroline -- all characters deeply, tightly knit together with decades of history on this show. And it occurred to me again that one of DAYS's biggest strengths and at times weaknesses is its sprawling, immense host of longtime characters knit by one or two large families. Whenever you turn on your TV, 1988, 1993, 2008, those families are still right there, without question.

It seems like they really mangled the potentially great story of Max's family, and I still don't understand why the character of Nicole works at all, and EJ/Sami/Lucas is now totally unwatchable, and I still can't stand John and Marlena, but if Corday was able to get out of his own way and hire real writers and then LET THEM WRITE, there is no reason a show with this focused a concentration of beloved characters and families could not survive at least another five years.

Frankly, I say give the show to Michael Malone. Malone is a great writer who often fails without safeties in place, but even without any safeties, at his most OTT on OLTL or AW (Mitch, ghosts, cursed diamonds, dreams, psychic powers, cursed mummies, etc), he is still more down to earth and family oriented than any other Days writer in over ten years. He could provide a mix of whimsical fantasy, operatic action and intrigue, and family drama and make people who watch Days for any and all of those happy. His plotting for OLTL in 2003 and 2004, while wretched for us OLTL fans, would have worked well at DAYS IMO.

Yay!!!!!! :D

I absolutely knew that it would.

Even during Days' slump periods it's still the best daytime soap ever.

People love it.

It'll get picked up again by the network in 2011 too. ;)

According to Nelson Branco, a spokesperson from DAYS had "no comment" regarding this. Take it for what it's worth.
