"All My Children" has been on the air for 38 years now and the show will continue to thrive with stories of love, passion, betrayal, loss, and triumph that surround the daily lives of many residents of Pine Valley, Pennsylvania.

We want to thank the woman who was responsible for making AMC an enduring legacy on daytime television for over the past 3 decades: the legendary creator of this show, Agnes Nixon.

And that brings me to ask you a very interesting question.

How did Nixon really come up with the title? B)

The title of the show refers to the brotherhood of man. Nixon believed that it doesn't matter who one was, what one looked like, or where one was from — for every human being was a child of God. The poem at the start of the All My Children photo album reads:

The Great and the Least,

The Rich and the Poor,

The Weak and the Strong,

In Sickness and in Health,

In Joy and Sorrow,

In Tragedy and Triumph,

You are ALL MY CHILDREN

We want to thank the man who was responsible for making Y&R an enduring legacy on daytime television for over the past 3 decades: the legendary creator of this show, Bill Bell.

And that brings me to ask you a very interesting question.

I don't know. In the recent Maria Arena bit I posted, she describes approaching Lee Phillip Bell at a Northwestern alumni event. And over the course of the conversation, Lee told her about the new soap they were creating. I wonder if Lee is not a lot like Stephanie Forrester...an integral part of the business who gave sage advice, startup capital...but who let all the credit go to her male "genius".

So I've brought this up before a couple years back, but it struck me again after watching this clip. Why is it that Erica, Mona, Bianca, and Kendall refer to themselves as the Kane women? Kane is the last name of Erica's father and Mona ended up despising him. So shouldn't these women be referred to as whatever Mona's maiden name is like, the Smith women or the Jones women?

I understand that the last name Kane has become so synonymous with Erica that referring to her as something other than a Kane woman would be weird but for Mona to refer to her daughter and granddaughters as Kane women is even more odd.

I don't think they've ever revealed Mona's maiden name, have they? EricMontreal do you know?

I may very well be reading into things here, but I figure that Mona's maiden or middle initial is "S". In the old white linen/family heirloom AMC opening, a silver locket with the initials "MKS" appears by Erica's picture. In a woman's monogram, the last name initial appears in the middle (usually larger). So, Mona Smith Kane, even Mona Susan/Stephanie Kane? Who knows. But I always thought that the locket was a subtle, lovely nod to the late Frances Heflin/Mona.

P.S. There is a chance that the "S" is in fact a super curvy "T" for Tyler if the locket is engraved in the first, middle, last initials monogram style. But I doubt that "S" is a "T".

    • Yes, but the stories are all pretty awful Seeing Victor rehashing his hatred of the Abbotts  when he married one of them and has a daughter that is half Abbott as well as walking around with Traci's daughter's heart keeping him alive makes him look worse than he already is. And I remember he and Jack chatting amicably in the past few years. Victor interfering in Kyle/Claire is just repeat of Billy/Victoria. Sharon, Nick,Phyllis etc are around but again the stories are lacking.
    • I think Kevin's 1996 Emmy was fair enough. He barely appeared for his second. I don't think anyone else on the list is that deserving but I might have gone with Moore as he did try with the whole Keesha AIDS story. @alwaysAMC Thanks to slick jones' cast list I was able to see that Nikki Rene played Tina. Not much on her, as you mentioned. Tap and a few Broadway listings (it doesn't help that a younger actress with a similar name is in a lot of roles). • Thank you. That does ring a bell. I remember Theresa and Julian's drunk, giggly fake wedding (with Julian asking "Whassup?" to the minister). Was Bruce tricking the pair as a prank, or did somebody put him up to it? I especially liked Katherine recalling how dashing young Alistair was when he'd pick up Rachel for dates, and how she wished she could be her sister, then feeling guilty once Rachel had her boating accident ...
    • And Kevin Mambo beat Shemar Moore for those two Emmys. I chalk up the wins to the voters not wanting Jonathan Jackson to eventually end up with a five peat (he won 1995, 1998, 1999). These were the 1996 and 1997 Younger Actor races. 1996: Nathan Fillion, Jonathan Jackson, Kevin Mambo (winner), Shemar Moore, Joshua Morrow 1997: Steve Burton, Jonathan Jackson, Kevin Mambo (winner), Shemar Moore, Joshua Morrow

    • Today's episode was excellent. Clearly it was confrontation day and they didn't disappoint. I'm glad they didn't forget Mona in all of this and gave us an opportunity to see how she's dealing with this. A major highlight for me were the Kat and Martin scenes. Their chemistry is off the charts and I don't understand why we haven't gotten more of this. I love how they take turns calming each other down. They feel really well matched and believable as siblings. Speaking of siblings, they anvils were dropping strong that Kat and Eva are twins but I do wish someone would mention that they are essentially hood twins which might throw people off the scent.  I'm one of the people who enjoyed Joey and the gambling storyline so it was nice to see him again. It was nice to see different characters like Mona and Eva in that element instead of the usual players. When Doug arrived I don't know what hit me but I just see a funeral in his future. He seems so hopeless and has the worst luck. I just can't see him surviving the year at this rate.
    • In fiction there has become an expectation by some that every Black character should represent excellence and perfection. It's not like we are talking about a Tyler Perry show where none of the characters are happy and everyone hates each other with a passion.
    • And on rewatch, I could've done without the unsubtle praising Matt like he was the only one who ever accepted Van as she was...but TPTB and their agendas.  It was totally in character for Vanessa to shut down emotionally until she was alone. While she could be volatile, both she and Henry believed in keeping emotions private.  Thank God it's still Bryan Buffinton in the role for both Henry's and HB's funerals. It just wouldn't have been the same with Ryan Brown, who couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag. Roll My Eyes.
