Knots Landing

I kept meaning to watch, at least until I heard how difficult the schedule was, but I did wonder when the hook would come.

I'm sure there may be some wealthy people who love Knots, but in this economy, reintroducing the show to the public only through paying is just a bad idea. I don't have the money to pay and I won't be doing so. I have my memories of Knots and some clips here and there - that will be enough. And I have the first two season DVDs in a box somewhere.

I know the rights are complicated, but I don't know why these shows can't start putting episodes on Youtube, even just assorted episodes, to whet the public's appetite.

I've never watched FC or KL - am currently in the middle of FC Season 6 and KL Season 7. But I'm one of those people who, for soaps, would just open up my wallet and say "Take my money!" Now, if I were re-watching, that would be different. But I'd definitely pay to finish them. (Although I'd prefer the option to buy them through Apple or Fandango at Home.)

This is where @Darn comes in. I dragged him into getting into the show (and may have to help him secure finding it again!) and he insists they should revive the viable property while the cast is still alive. If it is that popular, he has a point.

I've laid out some thoughts on that in the past as have many of us in this thread, but while I think Knots is a fertile brand for a new take I just don't see a way to realistically have enough of the families or their kids all reassemble in the same neighborhood, and I don't think a full new cast reboot would last ten minutes either.

As I get to the later years of my re-watch, I do think there is a world where Knots could be revived today but since they resisted change in the later years, it would be more difficult to pull off.

I do have a fantasy idea for a one off mini-series, but the cast is too old to commit to a new series. My idea would be to have Mack die mysteriously and show Karen coping with another loss. I'd have Val, now a true crime podcaster investigate the murder alongside Paige and then you discover Greg is somehow involved (although no responsible). I'd use it as a reunion to bring back as many people as possible but it would just be to say goodbye.

As for a full reboot, I just don't trust the quality of writing to do it justice in 2025. If I were to do it I'd probably leave the Fairgate/Mackenzie home still in the family. While I can see the Ewing's moving, I don't see Karen leaving that home or not leaving it to one of her kids. Perhaps you could even leave Brian/Kate in Abby's house if they could get Brian Austin Green back as Brian which would allow for Donna Mills to guest star.

Ok - so looking into the "pulling of KL and FC" more, I see that it will happen on March 2.

The only article I could find said that KL would be available for purchase through Apple, Fandango, and all the various other sources. That's great. I prefer to own stuff anyway and will happily buy KL - a season at a time until it gets to a place where I may no longer enjoy it.

I couldn't find any info on FC, however. Does anyone know/have inside information if it will be available for purchase as well? I mean, I'm in the middle of Season 6, and it seems to be deteriorating quickly. (If anyone could explain to me why Melissa is suddenly going crazy, I'd be grateful. It makes no sense whatsoever.) But I'm still interested in seeing how things progress.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Falcon Crest's first four seasons were available for purchase on Apple  before it aired on Amazon Prime. I'm sure the show will be available for purchase once it leaves Amazon Prime.

I went to continue my binge and saw the show is already gone. It was asking me to sign up for a 7-day free trial with Discovery Plus to continue binging, or purchase. I guess if you want Discovery Plus that would be a good option but I already pay for Max which has most of their programming so that would be a waste of money for me.

I'm open to buying it but I'm too irritated to do that right now.

Back to Plex then! Looks like Knots, FC, and Sisters are still there, with Sisters running on the Primetime soaps channel right now, and they just reran all of FC twice in the last 2 weeks.

As I mentioned with @Liberty City in the main thread like Dynasty having a permanent free home on PlutoTV and once in a while popping up on Prime, I could see the same for the these shows as well on Plex (for better or worse)

    • I still continue to think that Dani is written like she's been in a soap opera for 20 seasons and she's come to a point where she's completely spent storyline wise. It's a vibe I'm getting. Characterization wise... It's like she is either incredibly stupid... or just plain delusional and out of touch with reality. I choose to pick the second option. Also... to me... she has not been entertaining for months now. Ever since they decided to jump straight to... she's an alcoholic... which we didn't need at this point... the character has struggled. Her initial Ex-wife-from-hell bravado was more interesting, even though cliche.  I expect her to improve in the coming months... they used her as a clown type of character to draw in views. Now I need to see the human being. If there is one, behind the soap opera caricature.
    • A full 1973 episode that looks fantastic in color.
    • It 's obviously cheaper to go the true crime route. Having different reporters and production teams covering a variety of topics costs more. The networks are delivering budget programming these days.
    • Maybe because 60 Minutes has kept the same formula for almost 57 years? Usually, there is more than one interview/topic discussed, like a real magazine. Dateline, 20/20, and so many others have all fallen to the one-subject formula: True crime. I mean, I'm a Forensic Files junkie and loved original America's Most Wanted back in the day, but even I think the TV market has been over-saturated with all crime, all the time. There was still that element when these shows began, but they were a segment of an episode, not the entire episode. Maybe the audience is just getting bored with such a fixed formula. If stories were intermixed with crime, some feel-good segment, and maybe something to do with lifestyle/music/and yes, as much as I have come to hate it, political issues, maybe these shows could rally. As they are - again, minus 60 Minutes - they have become tired and predictable.
    • Interesting tidbit- Robert Newman (Josh) dated Jennifer Cooke (Morgan) when they first started on Guidling Light (it was reported in the press and I think they talked about it in interviews). I did see (as a young kid) Rita having a flashback about Roger's rape of her --and it was confusing as a kid because she was on the floor leaning against her bed and she looked like she was seduced by force and her dress was in disarray, her hair was mussed, make up was a bit messy, but she looked at him with fear, disgust and confusion but the camera was in soft focus (so I get why people may say it was romanticized)--and I remember asking what happened to her and told well she is having nightmares/flashbacks of Roger not being nice to her
    •   Like I said I wasn’t talking about characterization. It makes sense that Dani is in denial. However literally no one in the real world would accuse someone of faking a pregnancy. Why? Because it’s just not feasible. What is Dani supposed to expect from Hayley—that she’ll be hiding a pillow under her shirt 24/7? Come on. The accusation has no legs, and that’s exactly why nobody would ever go there. A far more plausible accusation—one that actually has been made for centuries—is that someone might lie about who the father is. Dani only vaguely hinted at that, but at least that angle would make some narrative sense. I’d go for a coworking space that would be home to these small businesses like Kat and Chelsea’s bag startup (the whole police station trope feels like copaganda to me)
    • I guess RTPP looked worse because it followed Another World, but it's a shame they didn't give it more time especially considering how the shows that were put on following it fared.
