Does Diversity mean you can be racist?

Yeah, TS has a hell of a lot more chemistry with Brody than she did with Vincent. Then again, Brody has chemistry with every friggin' woman. Did y'all notice the sparks between Dorian and him?? <sigh> Thanks RC for bringing this GradeA beefcake into our M-F afternoons.

Ahem.

Anyway, TS should totally get into the s/l about Shane knowing Rex is his real dad and she should totally get some bitchy bangs herself. What is taking these writers so long (OK, besides the obvious) with her? There are so many potential s/ls for her, it's maddening. And she's a better actress than Farah, which isn't saying much, but it's true.

I totally agree about Tika. Layla has been one of my favorite characters on the show since she arrived and I am annoyed that she's never been given a role that took her out of either her sister's or her BFF's shadow. But I honestly look around the canvas and see other talented non-minority characters who have been treated at least as shabbily. David Chisum is one example. Josh Casabon. Kerry Butler. The list goes on.

Non minority character get shafted too, but it doesn't devalue their representation. Let's flip things around.Would Layla still be on the canvas if she weren't a minority? Even Miles has disappeared with no word. I have to admit that not all minority characters should be kept just because they are minorities. But if you take the material given, and turn out good performances, and fans are invested in your portrayal- why shouldn't tptb invest in your s/l. Isn't that what we are looking at when we see "core " on the show?Layla is tptb's sad attempt at providing diversity on the show, but I would take Evangeline, RJ, Hank, or Rachel over her any day.

The same should be said of couples. If an IR couple is entertaining, and said actors are giving it their all in performance- and there is plenty of s/l left for them to play out(unforced)- why should they be prematurely broken up? I think in the case of Lane- this is their s/l regardless of the tension in their relationship, and I think the writers are looking for ways to spice them up.

Yeah, Tika beats out Fath, but tptb are invested in Gigi and will continue to promote her development and s/l. Layla and Brody would add so much more spice to that s/l than tptb could handle. It would take attention away from just about every other s/l.

It isn't, and I welcome that- but I can imagine once Brody goes popular and their pairing is marketed, something will happen- they will renounce his said love of Layla and pair him with another actress or storyline that requires his looks, personality, and charm. I've seen it happen too often...Infact once Gigi/Rex no longer have any obstacles, Brody/Gigi/Rex will begin their triangle and Shane will lure Brody back into that triangle. Not that I don't find that entertaining, but I imagine it will compromise the integrity of the Layla/Brody relationship, and their romance will be dropped like a hot pocket.

I'm such a pessimist on that pairing. But I just don't want to get hurt.

Oh I completely agree with that. I think the last romantic storyline involving two African-American characters that I enjoyed were David/Kat and Gilly/Hamp on GL which were years ago.

A little off topic, but didn't GL toy with the idea of putting Alan-Michael with Gilly?
