I think the sound effects during the vows were like that intentionally, to amplify how nervous both of them were. I'm surprised the only main character who DIDN'T get a voiceover was Penny!!!

One of my favorite moments was when Martha crashed the photo session. "Martha...you're FIRED!!" "Oh, not again." Everyone laughs.

I liked that instead of random extras, we got the "hospital staff" instead. The background nurses, the orderlies, almost all the regular background players we see on a usual basis were there.

The scene on the plane (though I don't know why Althea was wearing a fur hat on a flight to the Caribbean!!) and the "beach" were fun because I thought that LH and GG would be written off for the duration of the honeymoon and we wouldn't get to see them at all. I'm surprised that the scene where Althea is lying on her stomach to get a tan and her bikini top straps are untied (with Nick's hand resting on her back) got past the NBC censors!!

There are some great Althea/Nick scenes coming up in January and February, especially. Without giving away too much, almost an entire episode takes place in the Bellini apartment and the two have one of the most honest and raw conversations I've ever seen on a TV show (daytime OR primetime). I think you'll like it, if you haven't already seen it.

One of GG's final screen appearances was a brief arc on AMC in the summer of 1994 as Adam Chandler's lawyer. He and LH were also guest stars very early on in the run of the original L&O (though sadly not in the same episode).

Keep us posted as to where you are at!! It won't be long before you're all caught up!!! I really enjoy your observations.

Did any of you watch the Sami/Austin wedding on DAYS in 1997 (the one Carrie interrupted)? They had a long, long, long sequence where seemingly every person in the audience thought about the wedding, or their own relationships (my favorite was Susan saying she was sure the wedding wouldn't happen because this was Salem).

I wonder if JER watched this Doctors episode.

I was a little sad we didn't get to hear Ed and Anna.

I remember that very well. That was at the end of August 1997. I remember because my mother took me out of school that day so I could have my wisdom teeth removed. We arrived back home just as that episode came on, and I was on the couch still numb from the procedure. Watching the episode helped keep my mind off it a bit.

saynotoursoap, you were talking about Pam Toll earlier. I don't know if you knew this or not, but one of her four kids is very active in theatre in Tennessee. Here are Daniel DeVault's credits (and also a photo):

Watching the Nick/Althea beach scenes (which were a lot of fun) and I was absolutely shocked that they showed Althea's bare back. They went to great pains to make sure we didn't see more, but still, for 1968, that really surprised me. You usually hear that soaps didn't hint at any of that type of intimacy or casual nudity until HTSAM/Y&R/LIAMST.

I know the story is going to get much more ridiculous, from what people have been saying, but I actually really liked the episodes where Liz realized she'd been followed home and was terrified every phone rang. I thought Pamela Toll did a good job. I know some said this story was a Dark Shadows ripoff, and those scenes did remind me of Dark Shadows, but it was one of the more effective parts of the Maggie story so I don't mind seeing it again. And I still enjoy the friendship group of Carolee/Mike/Jody/Liz. It's a little contrived, but it works (although it makes me miss John Rice...). I laughed when Jody wanted to play some Creem or Beatles and Carolee said, "Doesn't anyone like Lawrence Welk anymore?" and Jody said, "Lawrence Welk? Ugh!" As cheesy as a soap trying to hint at changing tastes or counterculture can be, he's not really that much of a caricature, certainly far less than most of what they had in primetime in this era.

I keep wondering how much longer we'll get the Carolee-and-mom sequences. I'll miss them when they go.

It's interesting to see Carolee gradually become a more important character, although she already had more airtime than I'd expected in the December 1967 episodes. I wonder if her period of barely having anything to was earlier in 1967 (did she start in 1967?).

    • This is what kills me about the complaints that the show is moving too slow. I don't think any of the other soaps has revealed as much as BTG has in the same time frame. Not only are stories moving but it's rotating as well. Y&R has been teasing that Dumas character since February with no reveal in sight. B&B was one day for the majority of May with very limited storylines. GH had a strong final week of May but the storylines had been dragging for months prior to that. I appreciate that BTG doesn't focus so much on recapping and keeps the stories moving. I have anticipation about certain ones like Martin and Anita's secrets but I'm not worried about it because the writers have proven they will keep these stories moving at a strong pace.
    • John and Marlena's love story is over.

As I started watching in 1993, and they became my favourite couple because of storylines like The Affair, Maison Blanche, The Possession, Aremid, and The Secret Room - just five straight years of amazing stories.  The funny thing is, in all of those stories, John and Marlena were never truly together, but I was fine with that because I knew how much they loved each other - Deidre and Drake just had so much chemistry and made it so believable.   Deidre was fantastic today, especially in that last scene where Marlena told John it was okay for him to rest now.  I agree with @j swift, that having a body for Marlena, and everyone else, to say goodbye to was the right choice, as well as just having Marlena there alone as John dies.   Marlena: John, I love you so…. John: I love you too, Doc. Marlena: I need you to listen to me.  You have put up the bravest fight I have ever seen. The thing is I….I know you’re weary, I know you’re suffering…..If you need to go, it’s okay. I know that you’re worried me, about the children….You have given us all the love we will ever need. We will always have you in our memories. We will always hold you in our hearts. So…it’s okay if you rest now. You can rest now.   Bo and Hope are my second favourite couple, so for them to be part of this episode made it even more special.  I loved the inclusion of Zack - in the flashback and in the family scene at the Brady Pub.  John dies and Bo wakes up.  Two great love stories intertwining and showcased (loved the flashbacks!) in today's very emotional episode.     Great recap @Bright Eyes
    • Given the way both Lulu and Lucky are written I can guess.  Do Lulu and Lucky even speak?  Lol Liz is useful to prop one of Frank's pets when they are failing, I suppose. It's shame GH loves to do the opposite of what fans want.
    • Lol. I understand. For me, it's just John and Marlena are the couple that introduced me to DAYS and Young Me had such a crush on him since I saw his attractive self at Maison Blanche. And whether I regularly viewed or not, I always tried to stay checked in to how they were doing. Also Drake always was a cool man in interviews so I know today's episode is going to hit where it hurts.   I know I will have to watch eventually. Work, life, and internet connection are setbacks without me stalling. And I can say that I'm stalling somewhat. At least...like GH episodes on my system...I have some time before they get deleted, but I'm going to be a sobbing mess.

he’ll talk more as you continue your viewing  it’s such a jarring transition in ‘93 to Courtland Mead with his hammy sitcom delivery
    • Frank does not care about them and resents having to write for at least one of them.
    • I’m watching it tonight. I’ve been watching the new episodes simultaneously as I catch up in May

    • Thanks for the tip. I'm not even there viewing-wise yet and as I told my co-worker who grew up on DAYS today, I'm just not ready. So I know I'll be a mess when I get to the episode.    Love all of this.
    • People really forget the show started at the end of Feb.
