@I Am A Swede thanks for letting us know they are now putting up episodes that are totally unknown. If the channel lasts I hope they can get into the '80s. Years like 1984 are wastelands.

That would truly be a dream come true. They've actually started with 1980 now. Only three episodes so far, but still....  So now we have almost the entire 1970s batch of episodes of Emmerdale Farm available on Youtube. There are a few episodes missing, but it's almost a complete collection. It's amazing.

Personally I've just reached November 1974, and I can't help myself. I've watched over 60 episodes now in just over a week.    :D   I'm in Emmerdale heaven.

I'm in Spring 1973 and also loving every episode. I spread myself too thin over so many different shows that it feels like I'm making my way at a snail's pace, but I have to remind myself that they were only putting out two episodes a week back then, along with some time off. Peggy just had the twins, and Penny's friends Gwen and David just arrived.

One of the things that I've had to get used to is that this is a show about the Sugdens, and most everyone else is temporary. New characters roll in, and I really start to like them, but then I read that they are only around for a few months, maybe a year. Not a problem because I really could watch the interactions of Annie, Joe, Jack, Matt, and Sam around the kitchen table all day (Peggy gets on my damn nerves, but I know she ain't long for the world).

(I really want to message the saint who posts these episodes and ask if he can flip the playlists upside down so that they play in order instead of backwards)

They can all get on my nerves sometimes, with the possible exception of Annie. If there ever was such a thing as the quintessential soap matriarch surely Annie Sugden must be the one.

But even though they all annoy me sometimes I can also sympathize with them, and love them despite (or maybe because of) their faults. Because that's what makes them all so human and relatable.

Grandad Sam can be annoying some times, but then suddenly Toke Townley delivers really powerful performances, often very subtle ones. He did it when Peggy died, and now again in episode 250 when Reverend Ruskin gently told him that he was too old to become church warden, something he really wanted. You could see his disappointment, and then he suddenly saw himself in the mirror, and you could see in his face the dawning realization that Reverend Ruskin was right. So subtle, yet painfully obvious at the same time. Really great stuff.

Gosh this John storyline is the worst Emmerdale had in decades.
The actor of Robert didn’t came back during the last few years cause.. Why exactly ? He thought he was superior than this show lol and he returns NOW for a [!@#$%^&*] story like this? Gimme a break man

I really hope this story ends soon. Makes me miss Meena even more. The older I get in my early 30’s the more I actually appericiate how well written the Meena arc actually was. The stalking, the mental instability and crash outs are actually too real when I look at the news irl lol Thank God that Miss Sandhu won the award for it.

still can’t believe we came from the never ending Belle story (which was still amazingly written and great) to this John arc? :(

They will probably drag this story out much longer than they should. They did it with Belle/Tom, and that was a stronger story to begin with.... <_<

But it's not only this story that sucks. Most of the stories, if not all of them, are just bad. I'm binging 1970s Emmerdale Farm right now and the difference in quality is mind-blowing. There is so much more going on in the new episodes, and yet the old ones are way more interesting.

I don't think he thought he was superior to the show. He worked heavily for half a decade, had to, IIRC, go through knee surgery, and also had to deal with a lot of overly invested fans. If he wanted a break I can't blame him.

I don’t know what went wrong but like I said they have such banger story’s like Tom/Belle or Meena but they don’t know when to stop and drag it out.  But the minute their biggest arc is over and done with ED is just boring and u realize that it made sense to drag their biggest storylines but this John story just ain’t it unfortunately even though I liked the actor on Corrie.
The side characters/stories are evenly boring.

just look at the repeats from 2006-2007 they air right now and how properly this show was still written over 30-40 years after the show started. Somewhere down the line in the 2010’s the stunt and shock storylines started to become a thing and it hurt those shows more than it gained attention tbh.

Ok maybe he just came off that way the last few times I saw some interviews. But yes. He worked hard. I really thought this show had such more balance and substance in writting during the 2010’s til 2018/19 and then it went down hill pretty hard

The show started to feel very cold and dead around 1999. This went on until around 2004. Then fortunes improved for a number of years until 2010 when real efforts began to strip the show of any identity or heart or community. And that slowly was whittled away until we got where the show is now.

Hmm, can there possibly be a connection.....  🤔   The dates match pretty good.

You aren't wrong (although I do think Charity's first run is pretty decent).

On to 1976.....

The very first episode of the year, and there's a crack in the wall at the Woolpack. I didn't realize that the subsidence story started that early. This will of course lead to Amos and Henry having to move the pub to a new place, coinciding with the show switching locations from Arncliffe to Esholt.
