I’m liking the speculation that Tom is actually Joseph Tate.

Even though that would be a nice twist, I doubt it. This show has very little interest in its history, and I'm not sure the people in charge even remember that Joseph exists. The Tates have been gone for well over 10 years now.

The only reason such a rumor might hold weight is due the basic fact that the current regime would love to bring back anyone just tie them to the Dingles. Sad but true.

But I also agree, I doubt it's really Joseph.

I can't argue with that! Just look at Robert!

I had such high hopes for his return, but now I wish he would have stayed away.   :(

I'd say the current regime is somewhat less Dingle-oriented than some of the previous few. For instance, Kate Oates never would have had a mystery (Emma's murder) where only one Dingle had any major involvement, and they have also been used less as moral authorities of the village.

Gee, I wonder why? Could it perhaps be because the idea of a Dingle, any Dingle, as a moral authority is laughable to say the least.   <_<

If the current regime has realized that then all the better.

Now, if they could only start killing off some of the Dingles......

Good Gawd, the scenes tonight with Chas and Paddy were excruciating. Also the ones with Lawrence and Robert. John Bowe must be embarrassed at having to play them.

I think one reason that Tom might be Joseph is that they’ve taken great care to keep Charity from seeing him so far (she was his stepmother, after all).

John Bowe's been such a ham in all the years I've seen him - this stuff is at least entertaining in a bizarre way, which I can't say for most of his time as Lawrence. The only time I ever enjoyed anything he did was the story with Ronnie, and Bowe always seemed hesitant about playing any of that. He always seemed reluctant about seeing Lawrence as gay.

So, I guess they're trying to replicate the Tom King murder inquiry with this story about Emma? I think I would have preferred it if she really had committed suicide.

But since they've made it into a mystery who do you all think is the culprit? Moira, Ross, Pete, Cain, Laurel or Adam?  Or maybe they'll surprise us all and it turns out to be suicide after all?

I think it's either Moira (with Adam taking the blame and going away) or she killed herself.

I agree a suicide without the mystery would have worked better.

I guess at least it isn't as awful as the Robert shooting story.

That scenario makes the most sense, especially since we know that Adam is leaving.

And the only Barton babies have Dingles as parents.

Gawd, that's depressing.

Re. the Tom/Joseph Tate speculation - would it not be a bit crass for the show to bring back the character while Leah Bracknell has such serious health issues?

I don't think it would, as long as they don't trash Zoe if he returns. That's my main fear.

The only way I would approve of Tom being Joseph Tate is if it ends with him destroying Debbie, Charity and Cain as revenge for his father.

That’s exactly what I think they will be doing.
