It was, of course, a very touching episode but I did find myself fast-forwarding through the scenes with "the whole gang" with Ashley-I just wanted it to be him and his family. And alright, having him "recognize" Laurel at the very end was probably unrealistic in the extreme but I think it was really the only way they could have ended their storyline together.

I didn't care for the group scenes either on Friday's episode. I got it, but after a week of everyone stopping by, I was over it. I think out of the group that came over, Harriet is probably the one I'd be content with staying b/c of her history with Ashley and her now being the vicar.

The little boy who plays Arthur is breaking my heart but the old ham who plays Ashley's father is back to chewing the scenery. It's cringeworthy. Dude, you ain't playing King Lear.

Ha! I love Sandy, bellowing and all.

Now that it's over, do we think Edna was missed from this storyline? I'd say not - but think she would have been a great 'outraged parishioner' component of the upcoming Cain/Harriet scandal...

I'd say she was hugely missed.

Glad that the writers took this moment to get Adam and Victoria started on their baby making. Out of all the soap couples in the world, I want a little bundle of joy for these two. Someone has to carry the Sugden legacy!

I have a feeling that Victoria or Adam will learn they're infertile, which will lead to Adam's departure.

Why do you think so? I adored Edna, and really enjoyed her relationship with Ashley and thought it would have been poignant to see her watch him deteriorate. But I feel that the extended Thomas clan covered all those bases in the end.

I do think that Edna's role in the village community is still vacant, though. But I don't want an identikit replacement to show up, either. It would need to happen organically.

No! Don't say that! :(

I hope not - but when couples focus this much on babymaking it seems likely. If it's Victoria it would just show us again the show's weird issue against the Sugdens...

Well hope this isn't true! I need Victoria to have some babies! I don't get the show's issue with the Sugdens either. If it weren't for them, there would be no Emmerdale. I'm sick of Dingles clogging up the show.

@I Am A Swede did you watch Ashley's final episode? What did you think of it? I would have made a few changes but I thought they got the main part (Ashley's death and Laurel's final moments with him) just right. It was what I wanted.

Yes, I watched it, and as I expected it was a tear-jerker. Charlotte Bellamy was great, as she always is. I hope that the people in charge realize what a gem they have in her and don't sideline her now that Ashley is gone. Frankly she is one of the few things that entices me to keep watching.

I would also love it if they could/would give Bernice something substantial to do. Samantha Giles is so underutilized.

On another note I would like to offer my opinion on the Cain/Harriet development.....

So I guess Gabby is being written out so the actress can focus on school? I wonder where this leaves Jacob.

I have a feeling Ross' blackmailing Robert signals the beginning of an exit storyline. A Who Killed Ross? summer storyline, perhaps?

Speaking of Gabi, I so forgot that she had a younger sister and Bernice had a younger daughter.

And they better NOT kill my Ross! This show has too much doom and gloom at the moment. If Michael Parr is leaving, just have Ross leave town. We don't need yet another Barton death. That poor family gets killed off more than anyone.

I think the Sugden family still has the upper hand in that department.

Very true, but at the rate this show is going, the Bartons aren't too far behind. Sucks b/c the family that needs to be plucked off (the Dingles that is) keep multiplying. <_<
