Thanks All My Shadows and CarlD2! smile.png

Billy has a granddaughter? Oh my LOL.

Rich Janine is insufferable, as usual. But I still enjoy her character.

I will search out those clips. Thanks for the tip. ;)

I think Ben believed Heather had gotten him in trouble (which she hadn't) and he lashed out at her. She died, and then he, Phil, and Jay covered up the crime.

Peter and Lucy each left Walford because they were sick of Ian. Lucy came back a few months ago.

The past few episodes have been great with Janine's wedding, Diane back (even they she felt like an extra at the actual wedding), and Janine giving birth prematurely. Basically, Janine's been carrying huge parts of the over the last year or so.

Joey Branning is clearly the newest in a line of Dennis Rickman knockoffs, and he even looks a bit like Nigel Harman.

One article just pimped Lucy and Joey as the new Sharon and Grant...

Thanks, Y&RWorldTurner. :) I'm looking forward to those episodes.

No one comes close to my Dennis Rickman. But Joey is kind of "fit," as they say in Walford. I do like the actress playing Lucy. Not sure about the Sharon/Grant comparison. LOL

Speaking of Sharon, I hear that she's returning (yeah!).

The guy who works at the car lot, the one who is bullying Lucy, is he a Branning? He gets on my nerves already.

The whole idea of everyone needing to be the new ____ is what kills these soaps. No one is going to be the new Sharon.

Yes, that's Derek Branning.

The Branning invasion is a bit annoying, especially in Simon Ashdown's episodes where he shoehorns them into everything.

Sharon is back in early August.

In an earlier EE era Derek probably would have become like Barry by now.

I suck at scanning Weeklys but if I ever get a chance I will post a Weekly article from 1989 or 1990 which talks about Eastenders popularity, and Corrie's, and Corrie's day to day realism (boy is that gone for good), and opens with bizarre "Cockney slang" which I never, ever remember hearing on Eastenders.

I liked Barry's character even though he was a sad sack.

Oh, I would love for Janine to push Derek off a cliff. She's good at that kind of thing.

The Branning that I really have affection for is dear old Jim Branning. Miss him.

ITA about everyone needing to be the new ______ on soaps, both US and UK. It would be nice if TPTB to tried to blaze a new trail instead.

When I first started watching EE, I couldn't understand half of what was being said. My ears weren't used to the lingo or accents. It didn't take me too long to catch on except with Phil Mitchell. Sometimes I still can't understand a word he says, but I think that more due to Phil talking fast while mumbling more than anything else.

Now off to watch some episodes.

When I first started watching I had the worst time figuring out Bianca. One day I finally did. It was like cracking the code, and ever since then I've been able to understand just about every dialect on UK TV.

Exactly!. When I started really getting into the show earlier this year it took a while for me to understand some of the accents/lingo but now it is mostly okay except when a few people (Like Phil or Alfie) talk kind of fast, I loved the part of the wedding episode when you can see the look of relief on Janine's face when Ricky and Diane came.

Here's the top 20 soap moments they polled for the anniversary, which seems to mostly focus on recent years. A lot of it was pretty laughable.

The Emmerdale story was pathetic and offensive. The other two I get even less, especially Raquel leaving, which was, I believe, a low-key exit.
