I hope Y&R hits a 3.4 in overall households this week. <_<

It deserves it for being so damn boring and repeating the same s-h-i-t over and over again.....

Hope all the soaps rise....especially OLTL since it's be SO good lately ;)

I think this week will be a very good for soaps since most of the syndication ratings from last week shows are up. Maybe, there will be a couple of surprise ratings this week for soaps.

There is nothing wrong with the way Nielsen does ratings.

I know my statistics, thank you. :)

I just read on another board that the GH experiment in France was a bust and GH is already cancelled?

Does anyone know if that's true or not?

Apparently so. There was an article in some paper in France announcing this. It was cancelled after only 2 weeks on the air. Not sure why it was not given a longer opportunity but maybe the makeup of the show just did not appeal to the french audience - have no idea.

Hope BBdoes well ths time again.

I would love to see it surpass Y&R on the totem pole.

I just have a funny feeling that all the ABCD soaps go the way of GH, it's top soap, and GH has not been good. It's a shame because OLTL has improved so much.

Well good for you.

I want every soap to earn what they are producing on television.

Yeah I do too. I think daytime has lost a generation of viewers though.

Well darlin so do I. I don't have to go to someone else to ask about em either. :P

I forgot to point something else, too: I don't think the ratings are dropping just because the Nielsen's have the wrong technique.

I don't have to go to speak to someone either, among other things because that person doesn't need to explain me the method. I would like to have an honest discussion about the arguments for and against the Nielsens.

And I so don't believe you have a maths degree! :P:D

You are right, I don't have a math degree. I have a ph.d in public policy. But yes you are right, I don't have a math degree. Yes, I agree that it would be nice to have an honest discussion about Nielsens. That means I get to disagree with you and say there is nothing wrong with the Nielsens approach without it hurting your feelings or having to have you ask questions and make accusations about my degree.

I disagree with you. There is nothing wrong with ratings. i

Oh, Jess, I'm sorry if I offended you!!! It was just a test because I hoped you were a mathematician so that we could discuss this mathematically. Just that!

I'm really sorry if I hurt you!

Okay...here's a question just to pass the time until the ratings get the ball rolling here and I'm being serious.

Payola: (definition for dictionary.com)

pay·o·la

n.

Bribery of an influential person in exchange for the promotion of a product or service, such that of disc jockeys for the promotion of records.

A bribe or a number of bribes given to an influential person in exchange for a promotion of a product or service

Do you think that the fan campaigns where producers, network executives, actors, or media writers receive gifts of value should be considered payola in order to promote a specific storyline, couple, or character? I understand sending in postcards and that sort of thing but I recently watched a youtube clip where Becky Herbst (and I am NOT singling her out by any means whatsoever. It's just the example I happened to see.) showed off a bracelet that was sent by a certain faction of her fans and I remember thinking how strange it was. I could see where receiving gifts of a certain monetary value by a faction of her fans might influence her support for one pairing over another. It could influence storylines and ultimately affect the careers of not only the actor involved but other actors on the show. Similarly if Guza, Phelps, or we could expand it to other shows like The Bears or Carruthers et al. were receiving similar treatment, could that actually be considered payola?

This is just for the sake of the argument guys. I'm not trying to "start nothing where there wouldn't be nothing".... I'm just curious what your take on it might be.
