June 17, 200817 yr Member Why isn't this big news? Brad should be exposed for the scab he is...One would think, wouldn't one? And Alden exposed, too, for her complicity, even if she went fi-core.
June 17, 200817 yr Member I'm not sure I know enough to have a precise, direct opinion. I will say that when Bill Bell retired, and she was announced to take over, I was comfortable with that. Especially since he was staying on as "Senior Executive Producer" (I knew nothing about the Alzheimers), that was reassuring. I was further reassured during Kay's inaugural story. She jettisoned the nonsensical marriage between Nikki and Dr. Joshua Landers (her gynecologist!), and killed of Joshua's crazy ex-wife Veronia Landers too. On her deathbed, Victor remarried Nikki. Of course, that brought her magically to life. Hokey as it sounds, I remember it as energetic, suspenseful, and well written. I also LOVED the "sperm thief" story...I found it campy, based in history, with lots of twists and turns. [The existence of that story makes the apparent ignoring of Victor's two previous vasectomies today all the more glaring]. I was enjoying Y&R, even as the Dennison girls were introduced and the show lost some focus. I was surprised when Jack Smith suddenly came on...and I didn't really notice much change. Later, after Smith started overdosing me with Brittany Hodges and writing crazy things (like Nikki working in Bobby Marsino's club...which suddenly became a refurbished Bayou)...I realized how much more I preferred Alden's less energetic, more history-based Y&R. I really have nothing bad to say about Kay Alden. She was behind some stories I loved. I will say, and I think I did say this directly, I have been less enthused at B&B. I go from not feeling her influence at ALL, to feeling her influence in stories I hate. When she wore the solo hat during the WGA strike, I found the show as awful as I have ever found it to be. Totally superficial, ridiculous romances, not even campy-funny. I find she has not helped B&B at all (none of the Y&R writers have...and I'm not counting the short term stunt of Storm's suicide, or the well produced 1-2 Emmy shows that resulted). This either means that Brad Bell wields an IRON fist (even while on strike), or that she really doesn't put much of a stamp on a show. I'm not sure what it is. Personally, I'd like her back at Y&R as a consultant or a producer. The current Victor vasectomy thing, for example, EVEN IF IT WILL BE ADDRESSED, just feels like bad set up. "B&B" has become a dark and brooding mess. It used to be fun and campy, and didn't take itself too seriously. I suspect Alden is responsible for that.
June 17, 200817 yr Administrator Why isn't this big news? Brad should be exposed for the scab he is... What's the WGA going to do, try to kick him off his own show? They have a better chance going after the AMC/DAYS writers.
June 17, 200817 yr Member Jack Smith as well, after all, he went Fi-Core and wasn't credited during the strike on B&B, but we know he scabbed. Why did Alden and Smith throw themselves under a bus for B&B? Whether anyone likes their writing or not, they probably had the most industry respect of anyone in that writing team. I've always wondered if they voluntarily went Fi-core, or Brad told Alden in particular that she must go Fi-core because he took her in when ABC fired her as a consultant.

But I'm still in shock that Brad scabbed!! I hate scabs and scabbing! Now I will have to give up my avatar...

I don't mean try to kick him off his own show because that's not possible. However, it should be public knowledge that he is a scab, who publicly "supported" his union but continued to work anyway. They can't kick him off his own show, but they can kick him out of the union.

People they worked with know exactly that Kay & John can't write. Can't write well, that is.
June 17, 200817 yr Member No, they didn't. People they worked with know exactly that Kay & John can't write. Can't write well, that is. Love your agenda.
June 17, 200817 yr Member Love your agenda. Trust me on this one. It's not an agenda, it's proof-supported. Just look at rain1's post about Kay being the "worker bee". That says a lot. And it's not like you like Kay Alden...
June 17, 200817 yr Administrator I knew it, I knew it. Brad has to agree, so it's his fault too. Trust me on this one. It's not an agenda, it's proof-supported. Proof?
June 17, 200817 yr Member Proof? Don't you know by now that Sylph can't explain things in detail for us?
June 17, 200817 yr Member Don't you know by now that Sylph can't explain things in detail for us? I learnt this from you - you never cite your sources. And usually you don't elaborate on a whole lot of things.
June 17, 200817 yr Member I learnt this from you - you never cite your sources. :P And usually you don't elaborate on a whole lot of things. But that's the way you've always been.
