Eric, you are so right re the facts(see my earlier post)

re Dickson's replacements.

I remember Adair returning and the immediate change in the Jill character.John and Jill were at war over the divorce settlement and Deborah Adair brought back the vulnerability and likeability to Jill.Dickson was entertaining for sure but her Jill was such a caricature that John looked like a fool for ever having been in love with her.

Was it around this time that Judith Chapman(now Gloria) and Melinda Fee (ex Mary DOOL) filled in also?

When Brenda left in 1980 , Bond Gideon was chosen as the new Jill, but she didn't get much airtime and was fired after a few months.

Deborah Adair was the next replacement and played Jill for three years, playing out the whole Jill/John marriage and putting her own stamp on the role.

When Adair departed(shortly after, she landed a role in Dynasty)Dickson returned to the role of Jill.

Adair then filled in as Jill during one of Dickson's absences.Obviously, she had a good relationship with Y&R and was happy to do the fill-in.

Deborah Adair did indeed play Jill when Jill and John were married.I remember they got a cover on SOD.

This was in 1982,I believe.Jill had been seeing Andy Richards and became engaged to him, when John Abbott returned to Genoa City.

By the time Brenda returned,Jill was threatened by Dina's return. That was when she had the fling with Jack that lead to the end of the marriage.

Paul R said : "Did Bill Bell really want the show cancelled after a year? I thin he would have known from experience that shows need time to build."

I have read this in numerous soap books--The Encyclopedia, LaGuardia's world of soaps to name a few--it does surprise me but...
