Michelle Newman has been upped to the newly created position of vp daytime programming and marketing at CBS Entertainment.

In her new position, she will work with senior vp daytime Barbara Bloom and will spearhead marketing campaigns for CBS' daytime series "The Young and the Restless," "The Bold and the Beautiful," "Guiding Light," "As the World Turns" and "The Price Is Right."

She will also work closely with CBS Interactive and CBS Mobile to market the CBS Daytime brand. Newman most recently served as creative director on-air promotion, daytime since joining CBS in 2003.

I guess if they're creating a new executive position and restructuring their daytime division, CBS appears to be more dedicated to soaps than its competitors. Although most of these soaps aren't what they use to be, but it shows network loyalty to the genre IMO.

I agree with you. I think this is definitely a vote of confidence for daytime. In his warped way I think BF feels he is doing what is best for ABCD as well. As for NBC its pathetic what their daytime division has become.

I've definitely heard more about ABC soaps (AMC specifically) than CBS soaps, even if the latter is of a higher quality (IMO). Well, except for OLTL.

But CBS doesn't have the daytime programming like "The View" to promote it as extensively. And Soapnet is owned by Disney so of course it's going to give plugs all up and down for ABC shows.

I can't wait to see how this lady's gonna promote CBS.

This is certainly a vote of confidence in daytime at CBS. Also, it appears that CBS is committed to marketing and making the most money it possibly can from its soaps. There appears to be a more comprehensive approach to daytime programming at CBS which I find commendable.

ABC is a farce and I'll say this for NBC: at least they don't pretend to give a damn.

That's great news. It shows CBS still cares and doesn't want their soaps to die out.

I hope the first thing Ms. Newman do is tell them they have to hire new writers that can help bring them in the 21st century & stop writing stupid crap like everybody wants to see a young stupid girl & pregnance. I'm talking about You Y&R & OLTL.

CBS should be committed to it's soaps, they GAINED viewers in the last year, while ABC lost over a million in that same year

I agree with you about OLTL.....that story is old news. Now if they had done it back in the '70s around the time of Roe v. Wade it would have created much more of a stir, but now...who cares? I don't. Honestly though, I think the story would be much more interesting if Cardboard Cole weren't involved. The poor boy couldn't show genuine emotion if you ran over his foot.

Buddy whatever his name is & Christel would been a good couple on a soap. People say she only got two face expressions.

This is good news...I will say that you can start to see it already, like with the full shows being available on Verizon V-Cast

Could this, please dear God, be sign that CBS is going to attempt to either force PGP to turn ATWT and GL around or try to buy them outright?
