The Young and the Restless, Global/CBS The Young and the Bell-less

Despite insiders claiming it was a done deal a few weeks back, Lauralee Bell (ex-Christine) is not returning to Genoa City. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Cricket says she declined returning to the soap after numerous attempts to bring her back for its upcoming 35th anniversary, which will feature a Danny Romalotti concert (run out and buy your ear plugs now). Bell explains, "I've never been pressured in the nicest way when I was asked back. But I decided I didn't want to come back because I felt [my return] wasn't going to have much impact. When I come back, I really want it to be something like Paul is having a life-changing moment." While I would normally tend to agree with Bell, I find her refusal shocking because her father's soap is celebrating a huge milestone and her sister-in-law Maria Arena Bell is its new head writer. Moreover, after Bell and I dished in person over former exec Lynn Marie Lathams reign of terror, I just assumed she'd be thrilled to come back and celebrate. Oh, well.

Check out Soap Opera Digest's gorgeous cover featuring Jack/Gloria/Jeffrey/Alistair on stands this week. It reminds me of those beautiful covers they used to shoot eons ago (Jonathan Exley was my fave soap photographer back in the day, by the way). I'm thrilled that executive producer Josh Griffith is rectifying every mistake LML made in the past couple of years, including killing off John Abbott. Wouldn't it be cool if Alistair fell in love with former drunk, Katherine Chancellor who's had her own experience with doppelgangers? Jerry Douglas (Alistair/John) looks like he's having the time of his life in his latest reincarnation!

I read the SOD article (which I posted about in the writer's/director's thread). She said she was asked by her mother to come back, but after thinking about it, she had too many other commitments to come back just for the 35th Anniversary

celebration/Restless style opening gala. She said she'd be back in the future though for a more long-term story. She said she did a pilot and has other business ventures coming up, so coming back for a short Y&R stint couldn't be scheduled well and didn't make sense.

Yes, and she told SOD that she was asked by her MOTHER to return too.

She's been trying too hard to branch out into primetime, but using her clothing store as an excuse for not doing daytime, she really seems full of herself in the interview. However, she did say she would return, it just has to be more.

I actually like that she said she wants to return when something major happens to Paul. Even though Tammy Lauren is gone, on her message board she's urging people to email and write so the show will feature Paul more. It's nice that he has some support. I'd much rather wait for a BIG Christine return involving Paul, rather than a couple smooches with Danny.

QUOTE (Chris B @ Mar 3 2008, 11:50 PM)
The Bug is one fierce bitch and I hope she makes Phyllis feel insecure. I know many hate on her, but she rocked that stint on B&B and I've just always enjoyed her. I think Lauralee is a beautiful and talented actress and you needed a goody two shoes like Christine around. Being friends with Nina shows she has great taste. Loved that someone continued to call her Cricket.

Co-sign completely!
