ATWT-Exit interview with Scott Bryce

Scott Bryce is such a class act. He will be sorely missed. There will only be one Craig for me and that's Scott Bryce.

Christopher Goutman needs to be fired. He is an [!@#$%^&*]!!! Seriously, Goutman wouldnt know good acting if it hit him in the head.

Goutman knows good acting, but he's clearly panicking, and that is causing him to make some very bad decisions.

I think the man is simply burned out and needs a very long vacation.

Scott Bryce: I have to say an enormous thank you for their love and support. I'd started thinking to myself, "Wow, maybe I stink" but the response from the fans has been so amazing and overwhelming that it's helped soften the blow. It's touching and affirming and it means the world to me.

And I thank you Mr. Bryce for your wonderful performance as Craig. I've been a fan of yours since the early 80's. Thanks for the great memories.

Bryce: I've had dozens of relationships with executive producers and this one, with Chris Goutman, was odd and very disconnected. I think we had an inherent disagreement or a different vision of who Craig is.

Who better knows the character then its original portrayer. Scott Bryce knew the essence of Craig like no one else. I wish Laurence Caso would return as EP of ATWT. Bryce's statement about his relationship with Goutman proves what a hack Chris is.

It's not the ATWT I remember from those many years ago. Chris would say to me, "This is your character, run with it." But when I did he never seemed pleased. Craig, as I understood him, has a need for family and love and fulfillment, and at all costs, which is what creates all the mayhem and madness in his life. Yes, he's a villain but he doesn't know that.

Scott truly knew what Craig was all about. Looks like Chris didnt have a clue. How could you not be pleased with Scott's version of Craig? Yet, Goutman is pleased with others on the show who cant act. Cough.......Paul...Cough...... <_<

Bryce: This was a very difficult story to sell, frankly. Why is Meg even with Craig? Why did she stay after Paul's supposed death? What's going on with the company? How can you turn over a multi-national corporation with less signatures than it takes to rent a car? All of it was very tough to play. When we finally had the family and the baby stuff it made sense to me and I felt rooted.

I think ever viewer of ATWT was asking the same questions. Yet, Goutman kept Jean Pissant even though her writing was horrible and uneven.

Bryce: I felt I was in the trenches with Marie Wilson [Meg], Roger Howarth [Paul] and Cady McClain [Rosanna], all consummate professionals. We called ourselves "the Odd Squad," or as the fans call us the "Quad from Hell." We were pretty much stuck in that one story. Craig had only one scene with his sister Katie [Terri Colombino]. He basically ignored her.

Haha...love his mention of the Quad from Hell.....LOL. I am on the fence about Katie and Craig. Craig would have just been used to pimp Katie. He could have been there for her and vice versa. Some good old family bonding. But Goutman didnt do that.

TVGuide.com: And we wanted to see more of Craig and Lucinda! You and Liz Hubbard are priceless together.

Bryce: That woman taught me how to do this genre. She's a remarkable actress and an even more remarkable person. Our chemistry is off the charts and I don't know why they wouldn't explore that. There were times where it just felt like plot was more important than people and that gets difficult to play. And it's hard to go to work when you don't really have the support of the captain of the ship, which is what I felt. So when the time came and I was fired, I wasn't shocked. I gave 100 percent. The only thing that kind of annoys me was that I was fired over the phone during the holidays. That felt disrespectful and unnecessary. Did Goutman ever lie to me? Never. Was I misled? Never. I worked hard. I respected the story as much as I could. I played the good soldier and didn't bitch. I called him sir. I showed up on time and did my scenes in one take. [Laughs] That's not enough?

Goutman lied to Bryce about having screen time with La Hubbard. It was all over the mags that he was going to work heavily with Hubbard. We the fans and Bryce got duped by Goutman. <_< La Hubbard and Bryce would have been pure gold in romantic scenes together.

TVGuide.com: Word is, your exit is explosive — literally.

Bryce: I try to kill Paul but he is the Rasputin of daytime and apparently unkillable. I vaporize his car but he lives. Then I take a private plane out of town... possibly to the landlocked island nation of Montego, I don't know.

If only he would have killed Paul. <_< This is the only part I like about this ending. It's typical Craig. He tried vaporizing Steve's truck. Although it doesnt make sense because Craig said as long as Meg wasnt with Paul. He didnt care what happened to Paul.

I wish Laurence Caso would return as EP of ATWT.

It's this fan boy's wet dream, quite frankly. The show wasn't broken and Caso didn't fix it, even after Marland died. He just kept on trucking with the groundwork Robert Calhoun set up before him.

 Sounds inviting stenbeck. ;):P Umm...well the problem with ATWT during that time was the boring writing. I felt ATWT was going no where after Marland's death. So the storylines were safe and predictable. All ATWT needed was a good writer to replace the great Marland. ATWT didnt need a new EP. But I guess they felt Caso didnt know what to do with ATWT after Maryland's death.

I predict ATWT will end up re-hiring Hunt Block to take over as Craig. I hope so for my benefit at least, I hate his character of Ramsey on ONE LIFE.

I hate that ATWT has gone down the sh!tter lately. It seems like everything good about the show is wasting away. Something needs to be done.....QUICK!

As for Bryce, I just hate that the man was minding his own business, living a life behind the camera, doing well for himself, was approached to reprise a character he originated, returned to the show, saw the very same character come two pen strokes from being written into an unredeemable corner, and was fired because the executive producer thought it'd be better that way.

<_<

I gotta hand it to Bryce. If that had been me, all the class I had left would've been obliterated after this interview. But Scott held it together and acted like a true gentleman. Perhaps some other soap will realize his love for the genre, his phenomenal acting chops, and his unfailing devotion...and offer him the job of a lifetime. And if they do, I hope Chris Goutman eats crow for what he's done.
