Members Jess
I think Amy Poehler as Hillary is just hilarious. I laughed out loud during the debate skit when they flipped over to "Hillary". You know, if Palin doesn't wet her pants on stage during the debate, she will outdo expectations. Members David_Vickers
How right you are Jess. I think Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are giving Emmyworthy performances on SNL. I can hardly wait for the Biden and Palin debate.
Administrator Toups Posted September 29, 2008 Administrator Share Posted September 29, 2008 That was so great about the skit! Same here. I also can't wait for SNL to parody the debate!
Members Jess
Mulder I think that debate could just be hilarious. Biden tends to stick his vote in his mouth and ramble on and Palin, who know what she will do. This could be funnier than SNL.
Members bandbfan
So....the bill didn't pass at first..so they're just trying to persuade people to change their votes?
Members bandbfan
Okay...house republicans are blaiming Pelosi because of a speech... I'm not hearing anything about the actual bill. I'm just hearing that she made Republicans mad. So, they didn't care what the bill actually said, they only care about her comments. Does that mean that if the American people were for it overwhelmingly, the comments of someone have the power to take something down?
Members George008
From my understanding, the majority of people in this country are not for the bill. Most people have expressed this as well, in this thread. From what I understand Pres. Bush, the Dems, and the Senate are the only supporters. The house republicans and the majority of Americans are very apprehensive about this bailout.
Members Jess
We elect people to lead. People who voted against this bill are not doing that. I'm not big on bailouts, but it beats the hell out of the alternatives. Both Democrats and Republicans in the House opposed the bill. Republicans that said that are idiots and are looking for excuses.
Members George008
The House Reps are much closer (relationship wise) to their constituents than Senators. When people have beef about a bill, they call their local congressman's office. From what I have heard, this bill has generated more phone calls than any other in memory. They are there to represent. If the people that they represent oppose a bill, they should in turn oppose it as well. Until everyone involved is happy..no hurried legislation should be passed..JMO. Members Wales2004
What amazes me is that while what she said was totally unnecessary (because she pointed out how Bush had blown through the budget surplus in a short span of time among other things), I still don't see how adults can stand up and say because she ran her mouth that they decided not to vote for it. That was the lamest of excuses. I think the majority of people will have issues with the bailout but I doubt they want to see the fallout from doing nothing. I have no doubt that people are calling their reps and opposing it but I am also willing to venture that those people are so upset about the amount of money and where it's going that they are not stopping to think of the consequences if nothing is done at all. The whole WMD farce has greatly shattered many people's confidence in Bush and is probably playing a role, to some extent in the public's resistance (besides the obvious desire not to bail out Wall Street and make inefficient executives any richer). At the end of the day, all these politicians who claim to have the people's interests at heart are more concerned about whether or not they will get re-elected if they vote for a bailout package, than they are about addressing the situation. Members bandbfan
That's what I'm talking about. There were some republican house leaders that went on and on about what Pelosi said. They didn't say anything about the specifics of why they voted against the bill, as in something within the bill itself. They sounded very immature. I'm not saying that all house republicans felt this way. But those on camera went on and on about her and just made themselves seem whiney, IMO. If they voted against the bill, give a legit reason. Don't blaim it on somebody that you've never gotten along with and never will.
Members bandbfan
I understand that they're more locally focused, but I never hear anything about the reps in my state. I know who they are, but they're never in our news or anything.
Members Wales2004
IA. I think things would have gone more smoothly had the presidential candidates not gotten involved because things took a wrong turn when the posturing started. I happen to agree with Chris Dodd who said their appearance/inclusion didn't help and I think all it did was empower the partisan stand. It would be nice if we could count on elected officials to conduct themselves like mature adults but there are going to always be those who are more about the competition and ego than anything else. Now some of them are leaving to observe Rosh Hoshanah so it's unlikely that they will resolve much before Wednesday.
Members Jess
Blaming it on Pelosi is an excuse. If they decided they would rather the economy tank as a partisan temper tantrum, then shame on them. Pelosi should not have said what she did, but any Republican who said that is why the vote went down is making up an excuse for his failure to line up Republican votes. Hell, it was the president's bill. Do they not trust their president? If they don't trust their president then they are saying much more about their opinion of him then anything Pelosi said. The Republicans will be blamed for this because their president is in the White House. Now that they have gotten their no vote, they had better find some way to get something done within about 24 hours.
