Clearly, they are trying to make Palin the attack dog, but IMO, having her come out of the gate attacking so heavily was just a way of covering for her lack of expertise and people are going to pick up on that. I think all the nasty attacks Guiliani and Palin threw out tonight are going to turn a lot of people off. They came off as so angry.

You know the shi*ts about that statement was that Obama's stance on torture is no different than McCain's. Both oppose it. I really dislike politicians just saying things whether it has any basis in fact or not. There are two things I actually admire about McCain. One is he voted against the marriage act and took the Republican hits and two is that he has consistently opposed torture. What the hell was Palin talking about?

That's why I didn't bother watching. I read a few days ago that she was excited about how Obama was doing until she was offered the VP job so I can't begin to take her seriously when it comes to him.

She can laugh at community acrivism but since she's vying to be a leader of all Americans then mocking it is the same as mocking them.

I agree. Paul Begala made an interesting point tonight when analyzing this speech. This speech was delivered to the hard right base of the republican party, I think that is quite clear. Paul basically said any campaign that is focusing in on its core base in September, is a losing campaign.

The Rep. base is not nearly as energized as the Democratic base..... a new poll today had 62% of Dems as opposed to barely 40% of Rep. who were enthusiastic about voting this year. Palin appeals to those Bush bible thumpers and she may yes appeal to some, but at the end of the day John McCain is at the top of the ticket, and McCain is not well regarded by the core base of the Rep. party. I expect there will be a bounce in the polls for McCain-Palin after this convention, but once we got on the campaign trail, on the stump, off the cuff and debates, I feel that this McCain-Palin ticket won't know what hit them.

For the first time I am now fully confident that Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States.

It is definitely your prerogative if you want to joke about the conservative right being Nazis. It seems to me that you were implying that republicans are bigots (all be it jokingly). I did not intend to imply that you were one. Thanks for your defense of my right to speak, it says a lot about our fellow posters that it was even needed.

What's with all of the angry posts tonight? (from everyone). I gave all of the democrats props during their convention. (check back). You guys seem to want to tear down every single statement that was put out by tonight's speakers.

This thread seems to have diverged a great deal from the issues we face in this election. I've always believed the last measure taken when losing a debate is losing your cool.

Maybe I'm wrong. I watched a feature earlier this week where they interviewed the men who were held captive with McCain. At the end, they said one thing they all, including McCain, believed was that torture was not good. People who are being tortured will say anything so it does not provide information. Also, if Americans torture, then Americans can be tortured, they said. I assumed McCain also opposed torture.

By he way, I do not support McCain for president, but the man went through hell.

One thing I've noticed about the GOP speeches is that they are all cookie cutter. We could all sit here and right one because they have little basis in fact. It's just buzz words, liberal, bureaucracy, taxes. Oh well.

One final note. I started laughing when Palin said as governor she got rid of things the state of Alaska should not be paying for. Then there was this pause, and I though hmmm, yeah, she got rid of her brother-in-law and the man who would not fire her brother-in-law.

    • Eeek. I didn't know this either! I will say, though, even though they skimmed over a lot of Roger's past, I will give them props for not trying to turn him into a hero. Yeah, I was hoping we would get more 1986 episodes than were available on YT before, but now I'm wondering if I really want to see that.
    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited. And @errol said JHC is working in a nonproduction capacity at Y&R.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.
