Members RavenWhitney
This is a question for TOUPS. I heard from a friend in the tv ad agency business two things: 1. Brad Bell is now heavily involved in story/production decisions at Y&R and that Alden will have a bigger role in B&B post strike. Have you heard anything similar? 2. During the strike Paula Cwikly was working on Y&R and another California soap, either B&B or DOOL as a breakdown/scriptwriter (she's only been credited about once a week on Y&R). I'm wondering if you've heard that as well. thanks
Administrator Toups Posted March 6, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted March 6, 2008 Nope, haven't heard a thing. Sorry. But...... #1 - It's plausible. #2 - There's no way she helped Corday out (re: the Brash/Cwikly/Higley fiasco in late 2002/early 2003).
Members Y&RWorldTurner
I generally despise any "scoops" RavenWhitney posts, but I'll bite on #1.... Brad Bell recently came up with the idea to send Lesli Kay to Y&R, to "give her something to do." If he didn't have some sort of power at Y&R, I don't see how that could've been made possible. Administrator Toups Posted March 6, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted March 6, 2008 Of course he has some power - he's a Bell! LOL But I doubt he's actually involved with story projections. Plus, we all know Brad can only write one storyline at a time on B&B. I just can't see him thinking about 5-6 storylines all at once.
Members LeClerc
I wonder if Hope Harmel Smith will be in the AMC credits when they come back. Given the timing of her sudden appearance at AMC just as pre-strike eppies were running out, I assume she wrote for the show during the strike. I'd like to think the shows might get some good new writers out of the scabbing, like Another World did with Janet Iacobuzio, Mimi Leahey, and Donna Swajeski during the last strike. Members Sylph
Toups, if Maria Arena Bell hired subwriters today, when would you expect the to pop up in the credits?

Members Y&RWorldTurner
The strike didn't end too long ago, how many people could Maria have possibly brought on board her team so fast? I think they'll phase Latham's writer's out (those whose contract cycles aren't up yet) and Maria will gradually add her writer's to the team. Members Sylph
I think she has already brought on a few.
Members R Sinclair
That's always been the way. It takes roughly two months for an episode to get from breakdown to script to screen.
Members Sylph
Yeah, in usual circumstances.
Members Chris B
Yeah I do wonder what will happen when the first post-strike episodes begin airing. Will they list MAB as HW? Who will be on her initial team? I really don't want many (if any) of those LML writers back. The entire staff was a problem because they had no daytime experience. The only experience they got was to write Y&R the exact opposite of the way it should be written. Would they even know how to write a character driven soap? They clearly don't know any of the characters. It would just be a disaster, IMO. Maybe one or two could be salvaged, but I'd make them prove they can handle the real Y&R first. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that MAB will go back to the old Y&R peeps when putting her team together.
