I don't see how Claire would thrive on Y&R? She doesn't write in the tradition of Bill Bell. Her writing is much more folksy and down to earth. Classic Y&R in its heyday was pure camp and lush, sweeping romantic melodrama. Those really aren't her fortes. Plus, she'd probably get plenty of pressure from CBS and Sony, just like she got from P&G and Rauch over at GL. On paper, she should've been a perfect fit for GL, which at its heart was a multigenerational and family-centered show, Claire's trademark. But she failed miserably there.

I agree with you. I don't think Claire can do huge melodrama. Claire's more real, more gritty.

I'm still on team "Old School Y&R writer for HW." :)

I have, but anyone is free to think that I don't. I just cannot and will not tell.

 You sound like a broken record Sylph.

"Zetna" sounds either like an insurance company or a Latvian housekeeper.

LOL

I was surprised to see her again. She directed one episode of GL in December.

DAYS:

Honestly, I think we have seen from Claire's GL run too that she doesn't do all that well when she is at a show that she doesn't really know. I can't remember where, but I had heard she had said in an interview that she didn't really know the show. Because of that, she was even more susceptible to Rauch's influence IMO. Remember that, after all, Millee Taggart had that said teamup of MADD and Rauch and came out mostly unscathed.

Not to mention that, I believe, she had to go to OLTL almost against her will because her GH spinoff was rejected.

Plus, Claire Labine is really more of an "ABC writer." I've always preferred CBS Daytime's style, and her style is just completely ABC. I tend to reject the ABC-ization of CBSD.

The rumor I heard was that ABC "transferred" Labine to OLTL because she and Wendy Riche had a falling-out at GH, but she was still under contract to the network.

Unfortunately, though, the network probably didn't extend the same leeway to her at one show (OLTL) that they did at the other (GH); that's why Labine was such a failure at OLTL. IMO, if ABC had been more supportive, then she would have done amazing things for the show (because, let's be honest, who among us believed Labine was a good fit for action-and-adventure-heavy GH when the news of her hiring came out?).

Dona Cooper became so frustrated by Claire's refusal to change a word of what she had written (after Dona delivered her network "notes") that she burst into tears. For that reason alone, Claire will remain a hero to many.

I realize that a network/production company/sponsor story conference is not the same as a fiction or playwriting workshop, but I believe the same principle(s) should apply to both situations. Notes are just that; they're notes. No writer (or producer, for that matter) should ever feel compelled to incorporate them into the final product. (Be respectful and take the note, yes, but let it be your option, as the HW or EP, whether or not to use it.) Sadly, most execs today believe it is required that their notes be included -- and if you ask me, most of 'em hear and read the stories just to find what's "wrong" with them, and nothing else!

I'm sorry Ms. Cooper was driven to the point of tears, but to be perfectly frank, she should've known better. What Labine, or any HW, writes should never be up for negotiation. It isn't as if she pitches a story or sends in a breakdown or script and says, "Well, this is what I'd like to do, what do you think?". No, I've a feeling it's more like, "This is what I'm going to do, and this is the best way I know to do it. If you don't like or want this, then hire another writer." Which is as it should be.

If nothing else, I love Claire Labine for what she has always believed. Namely, that you must let the writers do the job they're hired to do. If what they're writing isn't connecting with the audience, that's one thing; but no good will ever come from interference on high.

Amen! Your post should be made into a (rather large) needlepoint sampler and delivered to all three networks.

And even then, they'd just throw it on a pillow and sit on it, rain. We both know that.

Sadly, "notes" aren't notes. They're orders. And they've been that way for quite some time,

Several articles are saying that Pratt begins work on AMC on June 23rd and it will be a 6 week wait before we see his work play out. If that's the case, I guess we'll see him credited during the first week or so of August.

Has anyone heard anything about when Hogan is officially starting on Y&R? All the articles have said in June, but haven't specified the exact date. I assume since Y&R doesn't tape that far behind, we might be seeing Hogan in the credits by late July or early August.

Should be a crazy summer credits-wise!

Pretty sure he's already started. That's what I heard at least. No idea how long it's been, but I don't imagine it's been long. The news just broke a few weeks ago.
