2008: The Directors and Writers Thread

The credits list "Story By" and "Teleplay By." These credits are typically reserved for primetime series', I've never seen them on a daytime serial. Anyway, does anyone, perhaps any fans of the show itself, know how this show was written and if it differed a lot from the writing process of more traditional soaps?>>

I remember seeing that when The Doctors originally aired. The Story By credit was just another name for Headwriter. I remember Elizabeth Levin - wife of Michael Levin who was on Ryan's Hope at the time - being the Headwriter of The Doctors. I also remember that As The World Turns used the "Teleplays by" alot which I always took to mean scriptwriter.

The only other times that I recall seeing the "Story By" was during the prolonged writers strike of 1988. Once scripts ran out, but headwriters outlines were still being used, there were a few "Story By" credits used.

Ryan's Hope also used this format in the early 80s. Another World also had the "Story by" credit around the same time period.

It's time to bite our collective lip and white knuckle some hope for Y&R. Hogan is either going to be a disaster or a smash hit. I hope it's the latter because the former...well Y&R simply cannot take it.

Y&R still needs other changes, like getting rid of half of the writers on the staff, trimming its cast, and GETTING A NEW EP. Josh Griffith has been nothing but poison to this show. I don't see how Maria and Sheffer can work with him...

Toups, don't know if I should've posted this in the other thread, but any idea when Hogan's material will start airing? Is he already in the building? Is he coming? Not sure how it works with the writers compared to new actors joining the show.

I don't know when his material is going to air. We can guess though.

The strike began on November 5th and Josh/Maria were already in the credits on December 26 - so that's about 7 weeks

The strike ended on February 12 and Jeff/Cherie were already back in the creidts on March 19 - so that's about 5 weeks.

So assuming Y&R is still writing about 6 weeks in advance, we should see Hogan's name in the credits by the first or second week of July.

But of course Y&R could've written further in advance.

There's so many of them they could've written up to August by now. But considering how slow the show is, maybe they're not that far in advance. I am very interested in what Hogan is planning on. I wonder if he wrote a story bible or just was hired on his name.

Its basically a year to the day B&E's hiring was announced. Their work didn't show up until July 25th.

Wel maybe Pratt will bring in good writers.

Hes worked with Michelle Patrick and I would be HAPPY if she came back! :)

I would love if CP brought back Michelle Patrick. I'm hoping whatever the reason she left GH was, it had to do exclusively with Guza. :D They seemed close when they won the Emmy, for what it's worth.

Haven't seen this posted, but maybe I did overlook.

Scott Hamner was demoted. Since May 12 he is no longer credited directly following Maria Arena Bell but with the other associate headwriters Bennett/Gottesfeld/Minardi Slater so I guess it seems he's now also an breakdowner...
