Passions: CANCELLED by DirecTV

At least we got an extra few months.

So they tell us Passions is the most successful show on the 101 and then they cancel it? What was the point of telling us that then? Get our hopes up? Sounds to me like DirecTV would've cancelled the show no matter how successful PSNS was - they just wanted new subscribers.

Come on, NBC, bring it back. A 30 min show would be fine. Or you can shop it around again, NBC. Will Frons take shot at grabbing PSNS for SoapNet? CW?

:(

This truly drives me insane. Why would they cancel the show after three months? Why would they go through the hassle of streamlining it? Why would they sell it to the Canadian channels? Why would the initial deal say 52 weeks? I truly hope this isn't true but I am so over this back and forth nonsense.

I'm sure people who are bored at other boards like to get attention and people like us get suckered into it. Unless there is a confirmation from a Direct TV exec saying that this RUMOR (that's what it is) is true, then you can go ahead and worry.

How do you know that it's Tracey Ross saying this? Where's the proof? Has she made a video of herself and put it on youtube confirming this? I really don't think she would jeopardize her job, unless she was picked up to another show, or was fired from this one and wanted to spread nasty rumors.

It doesn't make sense that the highest rated Direct TV show would get cancelled!

    • One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.

    • We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.
    • No idea but she won Emmys & she was the Casting Director at the same time for both ATWT & GL. She hired Lisa Brown with no job for her. Then Marland made Brown his muse so he created both Iva & Nola for her. But, I think we know that Jill does what Jill wants.
    • I did notice a decline in the quality of the performers being cast once Betty R vacated/retired from her position. We would have been spared from the nightmares of some of the castings that dominated the show in the last decade or so of the soap. JFP was an example of someone, no matter the gender, who had no business being in the position they were in.
    • If Betty Rea was the casting director, why was so much of GL during JFP's reign cast by her? Walker, Deas, Crampton, Lando, etc. JFP takes credit for Dusay as well. What is the point of having a casting director, if you don't let her do her job? What happened when Rea left?
    • So much on here slips my mind but this is the first I remember hearing of Peterson's passing. Very sad. Nell was a thankless role, clearly set up for a cheating storyline with Frank, but Peterson did her best.  Betty Rea Rea was the casting director for the soap opera “Guiding Light” from 1970 to 1996 and simultaneously the casting director for “As the World Turns” from 1979 to 1983.
    • Sorry, just one more post on the Thorntons. How did Ruth and Edna feel about each other prior to Tad dating Dotty?
    • I can't remember exactly but I think it may be 1995 as Jake was trying to hide from a loan shark.
