10 things to fix GH

Featured Replies

I like that one. Except then the Eastonites will want her at OLTL.

But you know that every time they think his contract is up they swear he's going to GH. At this moment if I had to choose between him on GH and her on OLTL then I'd go with him on GH. Their characters can live together in the darkest corner of PC where the bats are and the vampires roam.....oh wait they did that already and it got cancelled. Hmmmmm.

Here are perhaps five things I might do, if I were to fix GH:

1) Stop the violence. People watch soaps to see extraordinary characters caught in ordinary circumstances, not to watch mobsters blow each other away. It's repetitive, and it's antithetical to what these shows should be about. (And when was the last time any of these sociopaths actually paid for their misdeeds, anyway?) Get GH back to the kind of emotional, heart-tugging, kitchen-sink drama that Claire Labine and Wendy Riche perfected in the early- and mid-'90s.

2) Bring back Genie Francis. I don't want to hear about how or why it can't be done. Where there's a will, there's a way. GF's an icon, about the only person who can make Tony Geary's Luke tolerable, and exactly the sort of "mother-confessor" daytime lacks today.

3) Rebuild the Quartermaine family. Once upon a time, the Quartermaines were one of GH's, and daytime's, most thriving families. Today, it has dwindled down to Edward, who could go at any moment; Monica, who apparently has taken up permanent residence in storyline Siberia; and Tracy, who is absolutely wasted in her marriage to Luke. (I'm not including Jason, since it's obvious he doesn't want to be included anyway.) Short of bringing Stuart Damon's Alan back from the dead (and by the way, as cute as it is to see ghost-Alan as a representative of Tracy's conscience, that is a short-term idea which has worn out its' welcome), it's time for GH to reinvest in this fading dynasty. Dillon needs to come home (if not w/ Scott Clifton, then with someone else); and Ned, Jimmy Lee and Celia all need to be taken off the shelf, pronto. (Heck, I'll even take a back-from-the-dead A.J.!)

4) Enough with the newbies! I'm all for sowing the seeds for future generations of characters and families, but not if they come at the expense of older characters whom audiences clearly want to see more often, but can't. Of course, Monica and Jaclyn Zeman's Bobbie Spencer spring to mind, but what about Lesley Webber, or Gail and Lee Baldwin? People tune into TV shows, in general, because they want to see what's familiar. In many cases, viewers have fostered a sort of relationship with these made-up folks, and they want to know that no matter how crazy their real world has become, their make-believe worlds are still very much intact. Instead of coming up with more out-of-nowhere crazies for Sonny, Jason and Carly to come up against, how about taking some characters who aren't used very often, and having them interact with some who are?

5) Remember the hospital. It is called GENERAL HOSPITAL. Don't you think at least 90 percent of the show should revolve around it? (And no, sending the latest casualties from Port Charles' never-ending mob wars there doesn't cut it.) If I wanted to watch "The Godfather," or even reruns of "The Sopranos," I would. But, when I tune in everyday to watch GH, that's what I want to see. Period.

Great ideas.

Beachbum I like yours too, including #9.

As for Jason, I don't think we need more of him. I don't think that is even possible at the moment.

Doesn't change my statement....I mean seriously whats wrong with some of you? Isn't it better that daytime have as many viewers are possible. Preaching all this I'm a better soap fan than you because I don't like such and such really isn't doing much good. Its not going to make your soap rise in the ratings miraculously.

But hey if thats how you get your aggression its your business.

All I'm saying is that I think some of you are just plain vicious when it comes to the comments. God forbid that he or she might actually enjoy or want something that you may deem to be the ruination of soaps in general.

If your ideas to fix the soaps are so excellent and so crystal clear obvious why haven't you sent them in to the shows producers? Or the actors? Why haven't their been massive campaigns made by "the true fans" of Daytime.

I warn you upfront that I am a wretched soul with many issues and I spend my days making a joke out of as many things as possible because I love being happy so......

Anyway even though some of us don't agree that the Jason Morgan-Logan and Lulu hour is not the cure for what ails GH and you might find their comments vicious, some are kind of funny. People do have the right to disagree with others and share their opinions since that's what this is all about.

The reason that I don't bother sending in my excellent ideas to the shows or producers or started a massive campaign is because I know that they won't be accepted since they don't include mucking around with the fragile psyches of fan bases. It would truly be a waste of time for me to send them to the actors until I get that list of the powerful story controlling ones. However, I think those ones use their power to maintain an abundance of screen time. :D:D:D

Excuse me for cherry-picking your post ... but... BINGO! And it's the same for all of ABCD

:lol::lol: Here's my best idea tonight:

Drink or smoke whatever it is they had when they came up with that "Would you die for love?" tagline everyday while you watch GH and you'll soon come to realize that things are fine. GH doesn't need fixing. Things are fine. Drink, take a puff, drink again.:lol::lol:

NP. I think it's one of the biggest problems they have with at least OLTL and GH but I'm not surprised if it also is done with AMC. I guess who gets Ryan and who gets Kendall gets used as the basis to stir the fringe elements there. I think they damaged OLTL by sucking the life out of the show with who gets to sleep with John. People are still fighting over what has to be one of the most useless characters to ever be written for a soap. And now they're basically egging on this three way fight over Jason on GH. Instead of concentrating on cohesive story telling they spend way too much energy on this random bone throwing that makes an even bigger mess.

I don't know who is worst though. Is it the delusional fans who see everything as a sign and engage in these battles with each other over who the real soulmates are or is it TPTB that knowingly and perhaps maliciously feed this frenzy?

But what did they have? And can they share it with me?

It could be the whack crack that Whitney claimed not to use and if it is then you want to get the kind of stuff she thinks is good.:lol::lol:

Most of the time the critiques are pretty dead on. But your point does make me think of an inconsistency I've found. People want more hospital and less mob, yet most threads about any particular day or week of the show are about stories GH props the most. There's barely a mention of Tracy, Luke, Skye, Robin, etc.

I couldn't have said it better myself! You have it exactly right.

Does anyone know the song that is playing on the SON's ads for GH with Emily and Nick? I really like it.

And I was with them until #1.

All GH needs to do is rehire Kristina Wagner, Sharon Wyatt, Genie Francis, Tristan Rogers, Finola Hughes, John Reilly and Billy Warlock/Sean Kanan. The show opens up with Felicia waking up and saying "oh what a horrible dream" to Mac. She goes on to explain how the town was overrun with mobsters and Cassadines. Just the characters who existed when Anna and Robert died* are on the show and we spend a week catching up with what everyone has been up to these last 15 or so years and now we're back to 2007. Sonny never existed, The Cassadines never came to town, no Liz, no deaths happened, no mob and so on. If the show wants they can reintroduce characters like Liz or Helena again. Show fixed.
