Oh, wow, I loved early Steve/Kayla/Jack. LOVED that SL. What an awesome triangle, and what angst for Steve and Kayla. Back when Days was coherently written! Jack was played so well by MA that you managed to hate him AND still feel incredible pity for this boy he had everything but couldn't even get his wife to love him.

And ITA about Brandon Beemer being so gorgeous. I wish he and MM would have more sizzling chemistry, though. It's very Friends-y (not that Pot-Head could muster up much chemistry with Martha, either).

Man that Steve/Kayla/Jack triangle had it all! The couple that had to be together despite all odds, and the one you had to feel for even though you hated him. That's the problem with our two triangles today...I don't see any burning desire for one part of the triangle to be together, so I don't have anyone to root for! They all act immature and stupid.

I like Philip a lot! But not as part of this hot mess!

The fight between Shawn/Philip was done really well! We actually got hand-held cameras and closeups of the fight. Kudos to the producers and director for that.

My favorite part of today's episode was seeing Lucas' fears in those future sequences. I thought future twins were pretty decent actors too.

So I'm pretty sure I reacted to those Lucas nightmare visions the exact opposite way this show intended. Didn't feel bad for him one bit. You're a chump for staying with Sami, Lucas. And I know your feeling Sami's kid daughter. I hate Lucas, too. If only Lucas would let you go live with your mommy in the DiMansion you could have a horse and your own violin tutor, too, just like your brother. Sorry your dad had to sabotage his own chances for personal wealth by tanking the company he worked at just to get revenge on your dad's love rival for your mom. Sucks to be you. Didn't really enjoy teenage prep Johnny being mean to fat Sami's girl, but loved the scene at the graves. Why are you so hateful? Why are you a drunk? LOLOLOLOLOLOL. That's his father's son all right.

Love Caroline with the shillelagh breaking up the fight but not thrilled with the CRAZY FIGHTING CAM. It just seemed a bit... much. And is it just me or should Shawn be banned from the pub? Every time he shows up there something gets destroyed. And so what if Phillip wrote the letter to the police talking about why Shawn shouldn't be on the police force? It's not like he LIED about what you did Shawn. Again, I think the people of Salem should send Phillip a THANK YOU for keeping that irresponsible hot head Shawn Brady off a police force already rampant with corruption, incompetence and negligence thanks to the Bradys who run it. Phillip FTW all the way.

Y'all talking about how great Steve/Kayla/Jack were are right. Oh for the days when DOOL knew how to write love triangles. I am so sick of these Shellip and Ejamicas triangles. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh Belle has been in love with jobless loser Shawn since high school and hot rich Phillip is trying to win her over. What will she do? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah Sami has been in love with jobless loser Lucas since high school (or so the show would have us believe even though she was NOT in love with Lucas back then but actually in love with Austin as much as she was capable of being in love with anyone) and hot rich EJ is trying to win her over. What will she do? Poor poor Marlena's daughters. As someone who has NOTHING whatsoever invested in Shelle or Lumi, I just don't care about their romantic problems one bit right now and as someone who likes Phillip and EJ I don't understand what they see in Belle and Sami right now.

Belle's excuses about why she hooked up with Phillip didn't ring true and Hope came across less hypocritical and annoying than I was expecting. I mean yeah she got her self-righteous judgment in there despite her own succumbing to the temptations of Patrick before, but I mostly saw her just trying to find out what the heck was going on and trying to think up the way to hurt Shawn the least. I was pleased with that because I didn't want to have to be mad at Hope. Still, I'm not going to judge Belle for her affair even if I think she's lying to herself about the reasons for it happening. Because I still feel for the girl losing her father and will for a very long time as I am still hurting from John's loss too. That is a problem I actually care about of hers.

Those babies creeped me out when EJ was waving at them through the nursery glass. I know in the past I wanted a DiBrady baby but not one that looks so creepy as that. I don't know if these were robobabies or real ones but they're still giving me nightmares either way.

Shawn is such a chump not figuring out the sheets. Bwahahahahaha. Sorry Shawn fans but I love seeing him cuckolded as payback for shacking up with Willow and putting me through the torture of Shelligan's Island. Still, with that little tender moment at the end with the happy music I think Shelle remains the triangle's twu wuv couple regardless of how much hotter the Phelle sex was. Because that's just how this show rolls.

Nice subtlety with the "EJ IS GOING TO GET SHOT AND I WILL BE A SUSPECT" randomness between Lucas and Bo at the end. Yeah, I'm going to be totally shocked when an attempt is made on EJ's life.

pretty boring episode. The only part that i payed attention to was my main man shawn d beat the crap out of Philip. That had to be the best soap fight ever. Philip next time stay the hell away from belle. Shawn will kill u the next time.

Tomorrow is the day i will watch because both my beautiful girls will be on, my chelsea and Stephanie.

I so agree.

The fat girl even had me in tears, and she's not even a regular!

I'd love them to actually have a girl

like her as part of the Campus storyline FCOL!

She looked so much more interesting (squatting for cash in the cemetary) than

those other young starlets do back at the college.

Ed Scott is doing amazing things with nothing more than IMAGINATION.

Nice little twists.

The show is really nice and soapy now. Hope is just "fascinating"! God, how I loved

her very "unpredictable" reaction to Belle's funky bedsheets and all. THAT kind of

unpredictability is what the show needs in order to make people tune in regularly.

I'm hopeful again that the show might survive.

    • It sure was!  With respect, how does that make sense?  These men are young, I don't see that.
    • I hope this played better than it sounds, because I'm imagining two separate scenes (the attack by Arnie, and later Charles getting shot). In my mind, it should have been a fluid single sequence. I wonder if or how often "bastard" was uttered in this scene. Fare thee well, Christopher Reeve. I've said it before, but pop culture's gain was daytime's definite loss. Imagine seeing HIM day after day, year after year, decade after decade, conceivably until they stopped producing soaps in NYC.   Well, that answers my "bastard" question. Good lord, the roads of Rosehill are packed with high-strung drivers and/or pedestrians. More sequences that I hope played better than they sound.

    • I think Ben had already left while under Marland and only returned briefly to reconcile with Eve. The whole thing confuses me as I thought for a long time that Eve left the show to go be with him and that was when they reconciled, but it seems like he returned, they got back together, then he left and maybe they were still together until she left to join him? I have no idea.  It does seem like the interim writers were using some characters like Justin and Helena who were quickly dumped under Kobe/Long, which is a shame. Helena is one of those characters who likely always had a shelf life but Rose Alaio was such a vibrant screen presence, if Kobe/Long had just been patient, she likely would have fit in well in the Reva era.
    • Also, the lawsuit story was not the right story to bring Naomi and Bill into a court battle since those types of lawsuits are usually resolved via settlements.
    • I know that Sara did eventually become Carrie's therapist, but I was curious if the show had her make comments regarding Carrie's stunts of making it seem as though Justin was cheating on Jackie.  Given that Justin cheated on Sara with both Jackie and Brandy, I wondered if it was wise of her to counsel Carrie given the conflict of interest involved. @DRW50I think once Adam/Sara end up married.. Marland didn't see any reason to explore Sara's personal life after the actor playing Adam was released.  I know that Sara lasts until at least Christmas 1982 on the show.. but I don't think she ended up staying on for very long into 1983. The period between Marland quitting and Pam Long starting was the perfect time to clean house on characters that had outgrown their usefulness  (i.e. Ben, Evie, Sara, Jennifer, Morgan).. and tying up stories started by Marland that were too complex (Mona Enright, Mark/Jennifer/Amanda triangle).
    • Unpopular opinion:  The focus on the soap opera tropes over the mysteries and crimes was partly what did the show in.  Also, featuring characters not involved in the legal, police, and criminal elements also hurt the show and took away what made it unique. Featuring characters like Jody, Raven, Sky, etc hurt the show long term.  The show ABCified starting in 1976/1977 and then went through a youthification period starting in 1981.
    • I feel like the lawsuit storyline was resolved quickly because the show didn’t want to spring for more sets.
