Welcome_to_Llanview.jpg

Welcome to the One Life to Live Discussion Thread for the week of September 17th, 2007. It looks to be another fun week on OLTL, as the battle for Tommy begins to heat up. Hope you enjoy your visit and are prepared to discuss the interworkings of Llanview, PA and OLTL. If so, then you're in the right place.

So let the discussion of the good, bad, and ugly that is Llanview, Pennsylvania & One Life to Live begin...

Because they are talking about how Talia visited Ground Zero and everything last week, and was there for the reading of the names. She was NYC participating in the 9/11 rememberance cermony last week, and now she is back to Llanview, and telling Bo about the memories the trip brought back for her.

For those of you who keep putting down Ron Carlivati, just wait....you may soon eat those words...

I can't spill any specifics, but the week of October 1st looks very, very, very good.

Watch for the Langston story to heat up, Marcie to learn a secret that someone has been keeping from her, Todd and Blair to become one again, someone unlikely to come to Talia's defense, Lindsay to snap, and Dorian to stick her nose into something she shouldn't. Also someone we haven't seen in awhile will make an appearance, and no, I'm not talking about Will, Ron, or RJ. And those are just some of the highlights.

All in all it looks like a smokin' week.

;)

I'm one of the many that "puts down" Carlivati. And I wasn't w/o justification. Case in point: 5/07 to 9/10/07.

The Talia doesn't interest me in the least bit. That character should have never been created...period. I wish they (Carlivati, Valentini & Frons) would just kill off Antonio now & stop the torture. KDLR can succeed in primetime- the same can't be said for many of his fellow actors. I don't like the direction Carlivati is taking Antonio, Lindsay & Marty. Three actors who are good in ther respective roles, but ware treated like !@#$.

Ive been waiting for OLTL to be great since 1997. A decade, y'all, a decade! I want major changes now, not October. OLTL is a show that just can't win. Can/will Carlivati deliver the goods? (Beating GH in the ratings for a few weeks doesn't count. Higley did it I think twice) Time will surely tell.

I could care less about Langston. The entire teen scene is a bore. Poor Star is drowning in the story. Brandon Buddy is awful as Cole. I'm tried of the Todd/Blair will they or won't they/I love you/I hate you drama and Dorina back to meddling ways, and Talia don't interest me, my guess is we'll see Addie because of the Catherine Hickland TV Guide article.

But hey I'm glad others will enjoy the first week of October. :D

^^Wow...just wow....I'm surprised that everyone is downing OLTL right and left these days. The show has been picking up steam lately, and will so even more next month.

I know I for one am excited......OLTL is a lot better than it has been in a long time.

    • The only blonde I see is one of the actual women staring at first & then screaming & running later.  DAYS: Vivian's manservant Ivan is in a long curly red wig.

Y&R: long straight black wig is the actor Peter Barton whose character name I am blanking on.
    • I very much liked office Cleary and the actress who portrayed her (as you say, Mary Peterson).  A shame her turn didn't evolve into a contract role.   BTW, does anyone know the timeframe/years that Betty Rae served as casting director?  If i understand correctly, she not only led the effort for contract roles, but also for shorter 13- and 26-week roles.  IMO, GL had LOTS of very well-casted, limited roles, too. I'm surprised the actors throughout the soap industry, and especially P&G actors, have not assembled a book or something similar, praising Rae.  Each actor could write a few paragraphs or a page of text describing his or her experience.
    • No. Ruth had an extramarital affair with David while married to Joe.
    • I'm not sure I agree with Bernstein's children on that. Bernstein's life and activism here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Bernstein#Social_activism_and_humanitarian_efforts
    • Thursday & Friday's episodes were excellent. The build-up was most definitely worth the wait (2 months). TMG, I can't give her enough accolades. AM, was also absolutely incredible. I think the fallout is going to have a ripple effect. The little clues that have been dropped,  hopefully, will weave seamlessly to reveal even bigger bombshells for the Dupree's and Martin.
    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archived copy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
