Why Do People Love/Hate [Insert Writer/Actor/Director/Producer]?

But I did agree in her acceptance speech when she said, "You can't be a great man if you are not a great father." Very true

And if a man has no kids, then what?

I love Kay Alden because she took loving care of Y&R after William J Bell retired as HW in 1998 and because she called 'Port Charles' under LML "unwatchable". Additionally, she laughed at a reference to 'The Idiots In Charge' affirming the fan communities belief that executives don't understand the genre in which they work.

I dislike Barbara Bloom because she hasn't fired LML yet. Get on it Barbara!

William J. Bell: "I’ve got a terrific team [at Y&R]– a core of people who’ve worked together for many years now. We’re a well-oiled machine. Granted, I don’t do much of the actual writing on Y&R. I’ll occasionally dictate a few key lines for a scene and I’m always very involved with the story. It’ll be somewhat different on THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. I’m doing detailed outlines for each episode and the writers take it from there." (SOD, June 2, 1987)

You're as strong as your weakest link. During 1986 and 1994, WJB depended a lot on his Y&R crew members. Being the HW & EP for 10 episodes per week is a daunting task, and one person certainly cannot do it alone. The biggest problem I have with WJB is that his team didn't (and still doesn't) receive the proper credit they richly deserved b/c without them (Alden, Ferri Esser, Freiwald, Jones, Scott etc), Y&R would be nothing. People got caught up in the fact that WJB co-created Y&R. For the record: I do not hate nor do I dislike WJB. Daytime was, and always will be a team effort. And that's why LML needs a stronger team helping her out.

Just another reason why I love Michele Val Jean (Is this woman amazing or what?): “Actors bring specificity to characters and I’m a big believer in watching what they do and using it. They’re the ones who wear that skin every day, so what they contribute is valuable.” (Soap Opera Digest, October 24, 2006)

MVJ watches every episode of GH. Can that be said for half of daytime's writers? The ones who do watch, only view about half a dozen episodes a month. Why is MVJ head writing GH alongside her friend, Robert Guza Jr.? Does JFP and/or Frons have something against her?

Do other writer/producers what episodes of their respective shows?

I would like to propose another category: most ridiculed. My first two nominees: Ronn Moss and Drake Hogestyn. Whenever a newbie comes on a soap, you have to cut them some slack, as they learn their craft. But these two have been at it for over 20 years and haven't learned a damn thing about acting. They are just as wooden (Moss) and over-the-top (Hogestyn) as they were two decades ago.

That's a very good idea, Quent! Who else do you have in mind for Most Ridiculed? I think many would list Maurice Benard, Laura Wright & Steve Burton in that category.

VM's no great thespian, but there's always been something about her that's been immensely watchable. She has the same star quality that Lucci (also a limited actress) has.

Can you describe this star quality you speak of? What exactly is it? How many daytime actors currently have it?

JackPeyton, I think it is a reflection of those who pay attention to the credits. They like to know who the actors are, who wrote a particular episode, who produced the show etc. Any others you would like to add to the list?

yeah......you lost me there.

Well, some dislike Xavier simply because he is new to Y&R's directing staff. Xavier is a good director as evidenced on GH + Y&R. Strickler is a good one too.
