My list of why I love Kathy Foster already:

1) the seamless editing when Santo opened the door to Colleen

2) the cross-dissolve from Santeen to EJami, Santo on one side of the frame, and Sami on the other.

3) the wonderful haunting Irish music playing (okay, that's not a directing choice... but whatever)

4) the shadows on Santo and Colleen's faces... such a contrast between light and dark

More to come...

5) the way she made Ali Sweeney look SO INNOCENt as Colleen before the kiss. When was the last time we saw her look like such a young girl, so defenseless

6) the way the thunder and lightning were edited into both the scene, AND the music

7) a love-making montage that I haven't seen the likes of on this show in I don't even know how long.

8) the shooting of a character I don't like... that actually freaked me out when I saw it on camera. the blood and the convulsing? Wow...

9) the intercutting between Ireland and the hospital building to the two kisses. Suspenseful AND romantic.

10) One hell of a last scene... Colleen and Sami are ripped up over different things, and AS played them both pitch perfectly. And quite differently.

Is this actually NUANCE I see? On Days of Our Lives?????

Interesting brimike I notice the same things also. While I liked the bright filter they used before for the flashbacks, I like seeing the flashbacks better this way too. Music is also good.

Ooo I'm at the part when Colleen and Santo make love for the first time and they switch back Ej and Sami. Great scene.

Yes Toups she did both epis and she is amazing! As I said in the Directors and Writers thread yesterday, I can't remember EVER seeing DOOL look so pretty. Thank you thank you thank you Young and the Restless for being so dumb that you let the fabulous Ed Scott and Kathryn Foster (and who knows who else) get away so that they might share their talents with my favorite soap.

....

As for the rest of the epi...

The airplane crap actually interested me for once. Jeremy running from the cops is a lot more believable plot development for me than the naive and conscience-stricken

guy he was made out to be when he first learned about the human trafficking considering the selfish, arrogant brat he was when he came to Salem. I like Shelly Hennig and I like Darin Brooks and I have no problem with the incest issue because I never saw them as kids however I really just am not feeling them that much so far. His chem is better with Chelsea and I hate her with Jett and Nick right now, so if he's going to be dating one of his nieces I'd rather it be Chelsea. The Jett stuff is kind of immensely ridiculous. I just have to laugh at the idea that a newbie ISA agent would be put in charge of an operation like this involving bringing down his best friend. Usually I can suspend my disbelief about this to not be distracted but when they show Jett ordering around men in suits who look about ten years older than him, I can't do it as hard as I try. Oh and why did they make Ilsa's hair and makeup look so awful? She was such a pretty girl the first epi but when she kissed Max in thanks for her freedom she looked kind of like a drag queen to me. Just because she's a hooker doesn't mean she has to look ugly. OMG OMG OMG the Jett leaning in for the kiss and then being shot and his slowmo reaction like he had been hit by a tranquilizer dart rather than a bullet?!?!?! So fricking hilarious. Oh I loved it!! Too bad the bad guys couldn't have shot more of them. Yeah! Now I am fully on board with this story. LOL at casino security not stopping Rawlings when he puts the gun away in his pants in front of everyone. And where were the paramedics and casino employees when only Chelsea was with Jett's dying body on the casino floor?

Where do I begin when it comes to EJami/Santeen? I know many hate it, but I felt like this episode was manna sent from heaven for me and I won't apologize for enjoying it as such.

Loved the music accompanying all this stuff. Loved the stark lighting and shadows and flames and thunder and rain. Finally DOOL has brought back the romance. The innocent sweetness of Santeen and the jaded storminess of EJami is such a fun dichotomy for me. I love all the insights from EJ and snark from Sami that comes about each other speaking about their ancestors when reading these letters. I love EJ's concern when Sami seems upset and Sami's stubborn refusal to admit that the letters are affecting her. I love that even if we viewers know that up to this point Sami had found the letters extremely romantic and that she does feel like Colleen reincarnated we also get to see her painfully and unsuccessfully try to deny she sees them that way just because she is compelled to be contrary about everything when it comes to EJ. I love it when EJ gives Sami his word about something and Sami calls him out that his word means nothing and I THOUGHT I'D DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN when EJ tried to get Sami to admit the truth and the woozy Sami just smiled and said "I always tell the truth" and they both grinned at what a fantastic lie that was. These two just know each other so well. And all the stuff from EJ about him loving the good and bad in Sami and everything in between. *swoon* It's exactly what made me fall in love with EJami last fall and it's why I've rooted for this couple even after Dec. 29. It's like they get it, they really get this couple FINALLY. Jodie Scholz, wherever you are, thank you thank you thank you for scripting this EJami love letter today. The drugging thing is kind of silly, but I understand why it had to happen so I won't hold it against anyone, and my RhettandScarlett-adoring heart just smiled when they had Sami throw that vase at EJ. Such delectable soapy goodness.

Now WTF was up with the stare between EJ and Sami after they discussed "I want it to be your decision." Is some sort of rewrite of Dec. 29 in the works? Because it was just an odd beat in that scene IMO because when EJ said that staring into Sami's eyes he didn't look like he felt guilty at all and Sami looked afraid or ashamed rather than angry. And right after this Sami decided she wanted to stop reading the letters and insisted EJ stop making comparisons from then on. Hmmmmm. Then again I could very well just be reading way too much into this in my excitement over everything else.

Another thought that crept in my head whilst watching this was WOW Lumi and Shelle fans got ripped off not having Ed Scott and Kathryn Foster at the helm way back when Lumi fans got wedding couch sex to consumate their years of pining after Lucas and Sami being married and Shelle fans got about 15 minutes of seedy motel sex on Shelligan's island as their reward for investing emotionally in that couple for eight years of mostly torture. Sorry guys. Then again those couples are actually married/engaged and the guys involved in them weren't turned into psychotic neanderthals from Jan-April so I can't feel TOO bad. But just something I noticed.

Can't wait for tomorrow's show to put the exclamation mark on another great week of DOOL.

I posted 3 weeks ago about Kathryn and Noel Maxam joining DAYS. ;)

Agreed!

I also liked the fireplace shot with the flames being in the foreground as we see Santo/Colleen kissing. That love making montage was really excellent. I'm not even a Santo/Colleen fan and I thought they're scenes were full of passion today.

Another shot I liked was when we saw the side of Sami's face and then the camera slowly panned right and we saw EJ looking at Sami....and then it faded to black.

Foster is such a great director! Y&R's loss and DAYS' gain!

I shudder to think what this episode would've looked like if Wyman was producing it. It would've been a total joke. So happy that we no longer have to sit through his junior high production skills.

Great episode today.

Although we've never seen them as kids, they grew up as related. That's what makes them different than Max and Chelsea in my eyes. I just can't get behind them as an actual couple, and I don't think I ever will.

Santo and Colleen were so hot today! I loved every single one of their scenes. The lighting, the darkness, the fire from the fireplace, the fadeouts to Sami and EJ, it was all amazing. Kathryn Foster has arrived! :D Santo and Colleen are the hottest romance in daytime right now, in my eyes.

I honestly think hell has frozen over. I enjoyed a scene with Shelley Henning as Stephanie. Kathryn Foster must have told Shelley something because she seemed so much more toned down today than she ever has been in the past. For the first time since she's been on the show, I was not thinking about how much I wanted to slap the slut.

Jett's shooting was pretty intense as well. It reminded me of Greta's coronation. Everything is going in slow motion, but you can hear everyone's screams and running away as if it weren't in slow motion. God, the direction is so superb now! :D :D

I'm hoping I can type since my heart is still pounding...what a great episode! I'm not going to recap everything because IMissAremid did an awesome job (and I agree 100% with her post); I'm just going to gush about this being the most romantic episode I've seen in years! It was absolutely beautiful, and that haunting music was perfect. If I could have edited out the TTS stuff, I would consider today's show perfect. Loved it. THIS is romance!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. One of the things I didn't like about today's episode. It's bad enough he raped her. Now he forces himself into her bed and kisses her when she's drugged up. EJ needs to stop forcing himself on her.

. This show is so stupid. Sonny killed an FBI agent less than a year ago by shooting him at point blank range. But the new short bald man is much much worse cause he was a bad guy in some part of Africa and managed to not kill Lucky, Isaiah, Jason, or Anna. This show is crippled by the mob all these years after Guza has been long gone.
    • With all the changes Sunny was one of the longest running characters by that time.  She had never been married and had heaps of story potential. I can see America getting with SFT -you know 'the circus soap'. Smart move because circuses were all the rage with the kids in the 80's. Maybe Stu and Jo could have bought the circus.
    • It is actually pathetic, that Victor’s 50 year old children are still written as scared of this man that has to sit in every scene. I get it, EB has been on the show for almost 50 years, but I don’t care. He’s a man in his 80’s and should not be the damn lead and driving force because you don’t want to upset Eric Braeden ‘s fragile ego that only exists because the writers have cowtowed to this man for so long.
    • PREACH Victor being written as he was 20 years ago to support EB's ego or some misguided belief that what worked decades ago is still relevant is destroying the show. Victor comes off as a rambling old fool holding on to vendettas and a desperate need for perceived power. His children still cow-towing to him makes them look equally foolish. If the writing portrayed Victor as  more of an irritant to them then maybe it would work.
    • They desperately need another meeting spot that isn’t Orphy Genes or the Country club. Y&R is awful now but there’s at least GCAC, Crimson Lights, Society, and the Jazz room at GCAC to meet at. 4 places is definitely better than 2 and I can’t imagine these rich folks literally only eat at their damn country club.
    • I support all of this. 80 year old Victor reading lines off the table or teleprompter until it’s time to yell at someone and still being the main man driving story on the show is absolutely ridiculous to me and one of the biggest issues with the show. I respect Braeden for wanting to keep working in his old age is great and all, but WHY IS HE THE LEAD?
    • I believe they said 27 sets. We have not seen that many maybe around 20. Perhaps they meant they have space for that number. I would like to see another meeting place -maybe a restaurant that could fit in b/w Orphy's and the Country Club. Casual but classy. Jacob/Naomi need a living room and it would be good if Vern/Anita had a smaller study/library so they're not always in the same room. I guess budget plays a part. For example, maybe the plan is for Jacob/Naomi to get a home down the track when they become more prominent. I really hope that outdoor sets come into use. A terrace at the Country Club or a few shopfronts-a park maybe. Speculation re June. I would go with a Hayley connection as she needs something else to do apart from whining to Bill. June could  provide some conflict cos I don't see Bill being that interested in having her around. He could try to buy her off, upsetting Hayley or she could overhear/uncover some dirt on Bill so he's forced to keep her around. The parents of Tyrell/Samantha can be held for down the track along with the mystery of Andre's parents. The advantage of a new show is that there is so much from character's pasts that can be used. An ex for Vernon or Anita and various relatives to come out of the woodwork.
    • Oh god I haven’t gotten to that episode yet, you have to be [!@#$%^&*].ing kidding me. I will say to my surprise, the Danny actor no longer bothers me. He has actually improved quite a bit.
    • I hear what you are saying, but I feel there is definitely an opportunity for improvement. If the set problem is to remain, then the whole focus has to change. Business has to take a back seat if there are no sets available to support story. As I have said before return to Jabot and have a number of characters working and interacting there. They seem super reluctant to do it but Victor needs to be a more supporting character.  Eric Braeden seems determined to carry on and that is of course admirable, but keeping Victor as this dominating force has been detrimental. Have a sweet reunion of Sharon and Nick and marry them off for good. Bring on Faith and I'd even have Adamson back as Noah at this point to support Nick/Sharon in a parenting role. They really need to bite the bullet and drop one of the following -Billy, Chelsea, Phyllis or make them recurring like Abby/Ashley with appearances or short term stories when appropriate. Free up some space for new or returning characters- Noah, Allie, Fen, Moses, even a recast Dylan.
    • Today was really boring. I get we needed to have Martin accepting Eva but man I needed some Leslie today. Anita being hung up on was intriguing though.
