Lol well I mean the wedding was on regular news outlets as well (the gossip ones anyway). I'd figure they'd also report if they decided not to get married afterall.

I always figured she didn't really want to be a big part of the show. She doesn't seem as catty or care about drama. Hasn't Audrina always been around? But she only actually got to be a big character during the last two or so seasons. So Whitney may come out of that shell on her show.

Yeah Audrina was always around but she didnt become a big part till season 3 and thats bc she moved in with Lauren. I really didnt see a purpose for Audrine before bc I didnt see how they were friends as they didnt hang out much and we mostly saw Audrina a few times at her job and not much of her personal life. Its only after she and Lauren became roommates and she got in the middle of all the drama concerning Heidi and Lo, that she became a major player. She's kind of been the star of season 4, having more to do than Lauren,

Did you guys watch the season premiere? I was wondering how the opening would be now with Whitney gone. They added Stephanie and Lo, but I was disappointed that they didnt get their names in there. They have promo shots but the show still seems to have them centerd on Lauren/Heidi/Audrina. But hey at least MTV is sort of acknowledging them as the 4th and 5th main girls

LOL....I have to laugh at the fakeness of this show. The bartender honestly didnt know who Spencer was and that he was dating Heidi? The cameras following him werent a big hint of things. Stuff like this makes you gotta love the show for what it is.

I didnt really notice in when watching but now that I think of it, I didnt really like that Whitney wasnt acknowledged. Would have been nice to hear a short mention of her

Love Heidi's mom...lol. Could she be more blatantly obvious?

Where's Holly? She was noticeably absent

Seriously Audrina, are you going to go after Brody? Didnt she see Lauren cut Jen Bunny out of her life for doing the same thing

‘The Hills’ will go on

MTV extending series' run without star Lauren Conrad

James Hibberd and Anthony Crupi

Although Lauren Conrad has had her fill of "The Hills," MTV is extending the series' run with an additional clutch of episodes set to air in the fall.

As part of its upfront announcements to advertisers, MTV said Tuesday the docusoap will continue without the 23-year-old designer, building a new story line around newlyweds (and Conrad antagonists) Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.

"MTV viewers will find out life in Los Angeles only gets more complicated as friendships, relationships and loyalties are tested like never before as 'The Hills' returns this fall with more episodes of Season 5," MTV said.

Note that's "more episodes of Season 5," not another season per se.

At PaleyFest last week, producers said they were planning to continue shooting footage of the remaining characters beyond the season finale. MTV likely will decide how many episodes will air based on how compelling the resulting footage is.

Along with news of an L.C.-free version of the hit show, MTV unveiled its 2009-10 programming roster, prepping nine new shows and returning four series. The network indicated that its development slate will "continue to reflect a directional shift geared toward the millennial generation, with shows that are aspirational, escapist and optimistic."

Several of the new shows previously were reported by THR, including the fashion reality competition series "Stylist," DJ AM's new intervention series "Gone Too Far" and animated shows "DJ and the Fro" and "Popzilla."

"There's a palpable generational shift in attitudes that's informing a new point of view as we develop content and the brand," said Tony DiSanto, head of programming at MTV. "The change in our audience is reflected in new formats, tonal voices and storytelling cadence. ... Just as we've shifted with our audience in the past, we're now embracing a new brand filter -- one that inspires us to break boundaries, bust our mold and reinvent."

Other new series include:

—"The Buried Life": Aspirational new show from Reveille that follows "four young men on an epic quest to prove that anyone can do anything -- everything from kissing Rachel McAdams to getting in the Guinness Book of World Records. But they also made a promise to themselves: for every goal they achieve on their list, they help a stranger do something on theirs."

—"The Alexa Chung Show," also from Reveille, a one-hour daily live show hosted by the British TV personality and model. The program will feature celebrity guests and musical performances and allow viewers to interact with guests in real time via Twitter.

—"Ultimate Parkour Challenge:" Competition series from One Louder and Transition Prods. using "free running," in which "athletes run as efficiently as possible from Point A to Point B, but unlike a track and field race, parkour is performed on any and every environment. Walls, cars, stairs, railings, rooftops and 10-foot gaps between five-story buildings force runners to leap, roll, climb, vault and fly, using the obstacles in their way to increase speed."

—"Pranked": A weekly 30-minute show from Cheri Sundae Prods. of "the very best pranks" pulled off the Internet.

In addition to "The Hills," MTV also is cooking up new seasons of "America's Best Dance Crew," "Run's House" and "Nitro Circus."

MTV is the top-rated ad-supported cable network in total day among viewers 12-24 but has struggled in primetime of late. In April, the network's average nightly delivery fell 12% to 841,000 total viewers, and the 18-34 demo dropped 11% (468,000, good for fourth place).

James Hibberd reported from Los Angeles; Mediaweek senior editor Anthony Crupi reported from New York.

me too but it sucks that its as Lauren is leaving bc I want to see them together years later. I can already see the future storyline being Kristen and Audrina feuding. Kristen dated Brody and Audrina has been getting closer to him. Thats instant drama right there. I wonder if Lo will stay on with no Lauren

Anyone see the promos for the finale with Kristen showing up late for the wedding walking down the aisle like some soap bitch? LMAO...I love it! How contrived for her and Lauren to be wearing the same dress. What are the chances of that happening. Thats a ripe oppurtunity for some fighting. Only plausible excuse would be if it were a bridesmaid dress (which it looks like bc its ugly) but then again how f-ed up of it would it be for Heidi to go through all this trouble to get Lauren at the wedding as a bridesmaid if she was going to have Kristen there as one too, knowing that they were old enemies. Either way it looks good

And although I like to ignore the set-up situations that MTV makes, Kristin needed to be there since she's going to be on the next season. It would've been random if she would've just shown up in episodes after Lauren was gone.

Kristen & Heidi are also friends, much moreso than Lauren/Heidi and i do think Kristen is a bridsmaid (She introduced spencer/heidi, from what i understand).

I love it, and i CANT wait.

Now that we have a lead that knows the soap is fake and bullshit and is here to play it up? Im hooked.

Kristen = <3

bye bye LC, dont let the door hit ya on the way out! I sure wont miss her.

Thanks. I saw the promo pretty quicked and the dresses look very similar. LOL....love the smile on Kristen's face

Is there going to be an onscreen reason why Lauren isnt on the show? Is she going to "move" A new job?

Yeah, i thought the same thing til i seen this.

i love her smile. i love how she walks into the room, obvsly late, and strust her stuff,t akes a seat, flashes a smile and wave to lauren who is like "aww [!@#$%^&*]..." lol.

i also think its odd how much older lauren looks than kristen. ive never really looked at lauren, but she does look much older than what she is, not even just comparing her to kristen. Kristen does look 16. lol.

i cant wait for kristen to take over, idk how they will adress it on screen Cheap, bit the promo clearly says "in her final episode of the hills" in terms of Lauren

I wonder how they will structure next season. Will Kristen swoop in and narrate the show. Will they give that to Heidi?, Audrina? Also I hope that Steph and Lo finally officially get bumped up to main leads. They got close this season, but they were still considered below the 3 originals

Kristen so wore her dress better. Lauren's is the one I saw throughout the promo and I couldnt get over how unflattering it was. And she's supposed to be all over fashion? I like her but she really hasnt added anything to the show in the past 2 seasons. She was the lead without actually being the lead if you get what I mean. I think a big part of that had to do with her deciding to keep her personal life off camera. I can understand why, but it detached her from the show and made her less relatable as opposed to the first 2 seasons. Also gave her less story oppurtunities aside from her feud with Heidi which appeared only a handful of times in the last 2 seasons and her contrived Audrina vs Lo drama which really wasnt even about Lauren. Id hope she'd at least appear a few times next season but she said that she's taking a break from reality tv for the time being.

I really hope Kristen can deliver and bring the drama. Its been years since we've seen her way back in high school. She's grown up so I have no idea if she's the same bitchy drama queen she was back then. Without Lauren to play off of, she might not be as interesting. But they could make her and Lo enemies and theres the drama with Jayde, Brody's current girlfriend, who they could feature more.

Any word on the City and when that will be back. It doesnt look like there will be a summer run and the Hills is set to return this fall. Its not a good idea to have them both at the same time, so Im thinking it might come back this winter

    • I was watching some August 1987 episodes and they brought back so many memories. I had some thoughts: Lisa and Jamie were so dull. Lisa was such a nothing character. It boggles my mind that so much story was centered around her in such a short amount of time. Joanna Going is a talented actress, but the material was just not there.  It was so good to see Wallingford and Mitch again. I know there was talk about Felicia a while back, but these episodes reminded me how integral Felicia was for the show.  Sally Spencer was done so dirty. She is turning in superb performances in an icky storyline. I wish she had stuck around longer. She has chemistry with everyone. The McKinnons should have lasted longer. Spencer had some strong stuff with Stephen Schnetzer and Mary Alexander. AW waster such a talented actress by getting rid of her. Justice for Cheryl too. I also missed Ed Fry when he left. Sandra Ferguson was a star from the moment she came on. She was charismatic and just popped. She had immediate chemistry with RKK and blended in well with Wyndham and Watson. I'd forgotten about the teenage Matthew.  I have no memory of Peggy Lazarus. She must not have lasted long. Was the original plan for John that he was going to turn out to be the twins' real father?
    • If the new and improved copies that @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded can be manually moved into the "by month, by year" folders, that would be awesome. I personally don't think it's necessary to keep the older versions (which either have Dutch subtitles hard coded on them, or are lesser in picture quality). That's a lot of valuable drive space that could be cleared. Just my view but can appreciate others may feel differently. The structure had been by month by year previously, so I think it would be easier to conform to that, where so much prior work to get it to that format has already been done. Hopefully you can "drag and drop" so the new copies are in the right month/year? Re Clips, I never look at them now we pretty much have the episodes in full. Appreciate others may use, however. Thanks for all your hard work here @BoldRestless!
    • Oh yes defintely, Josh Griffith repeats and repeats the same storylines.
    • Isnt’t this storyline similar to the Cameron Kirsten situation though? Sharon thought she killed him. He ended up being alive and Sharon was being tormented with thinking she was seeing his face everywhere and that’s how we got that iconic scene with her and Nikki in the sewers.   I understand in Mariah’s case this is different circumstances but it does seem like a play on that whole thing. Maybe I’m wrong. I just wish if they were going to make any character follow in Sharon’s foot steps it would be Faith. Mariah wasn’t even raised by her, and her personality is different. I would expect her to take a different path. I understand I could be completely jumping ahead because the storyline hasn’t even played out yet but we’ll see.
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven Monica was completely without redeeming qualities at this point. I always found the whole Monica = Carly narrative regressive, as I don't think shows comparing characters so heavily is ever a great idea, but she's actually worse than Carly was. Was it the Pollocks who had Leslie have a miscarriage?  Giving her a child, especially by rape, was not a good idea, but a part of me wishes they'd committed to it just to see what story it might have had in later years.
    • @janea4old Your detailed explanation and delving into the psychology and motivations is no doubt the opposite of what we will see onscreeen. As @ranger1rg stated we will get a few scenes and some sketchy explanations. Like the adoption of Aria, most of it will take place off screen.
    • I'm suddenly fearful that DAYS is going to pull a Flowers-for-Algernon stunt and Bo's progress will be reversed.  While @te. is stuck on Abe's tiny bedroom, I can't stop thinking of the size of Bo's huge hospital room.
    • Okay, why are Paulina and Abe sleeping like that?!  I'd take a screen grab if I wasn't lazy, but come on.
    • All caught up on this week's episodes. Deidre Hall has done the best work of her career with this series of episodes. That is her tribute to Drake. Every acting choice has been perfect. From her reaction the moment John flatlined, to her snapping at Abe and Paulina (what a smart, realistic writing choice), to her grief playing the text message over and over. Josh Taylor did the best work of his career in the scene with Kayla telling him John had died. Everything about his facial expression, voice, pronunciation, everything was so different from what he usually does. He was overcome with the emotion of it and any of his acting tics disappeared. Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso were great. One thing I noticed with the flashbacks of John/Marlena and Bo/Hope is that Bo and Hope are constantly smiling at each other. The chemistry those two have cannot be faked. It's clear the writing team decided to clean up Bo and Hope and give fans a happy ending for them, neatly wrapped up in a bow. The juxtaposition of Bo and Hope reclaiming their happiness thanks to John, while Marlena is dealt life's harshest blow from John's sacrifice, was another great writing choice. Marlena even saying that to Eric, that she is paying for Bo's recovery with John's life, was such smart writing. Susan Seaforth Hayes was used very effectively between the two storylines. I really enjoyed the scene of Kate talking to Philip, calmly stating that she will make Xander pay. Overall, the show should be lining these episodes up for the Emmys and Deidre should be carefully choosing her scenes for her own reel. She deserves a Best Actress Emmy for this work. The first time I have felt that way about her work. Peter Reckell should submit himself for Guest for the scenes where he found out Victor is dead because he was genuinely heartbreaking. Josh Taylor should throw his name down for Supporting Actor for his scenes. The show deserves a Writing and Best Show for what they've done with the episodes around John and Bo. It was heavy stuff and I feel for the actors. I am so impressed with what they did.
