Primetime Soaps

They also had Behind the Screen with Debbi Morgan, Janine Turner and Michael Sabatino. That reminds me, there are three short lived David Jacobs series I'd LOVE to see. Behind the Screen, Married: The First Year (with a pre-Knots Landing Constance McCashin) and his 90s extremely short lived soap Four Corners with Ann Margaret.

Frankly, @Chris B, I don't think you missed much.  From what I remember, it was a'ight.  I think if it had premiered about ten years earlier, it might've had a chance.  By 1998, however, it probably felt "old hat."

I remember watching Four Corners but I couldn't tell you a thing about it.  All I remember is thinking it was very boring.  I'd love to see Behind The Screen again.  I was 14 when it was on so I probably thought it was very provocative at the time.  All I remember of it is Janine Turner because she joined General Hospital shortly after its cancellation and I remembered her from Behind The Screen.

We're approaching the Endiversary of my favorite short-lived primetime soap, PAPER DOLLS, with Morgan Fairchlld, Roscoe Born, Brenda Vaccaro (sp?) & introducing Terri (sp?) Ferrell & Nicolette Sheridan. Amazingly it has 4 different opening themes. One for the TV movie, one for the show pilot, one for the show itself & then a variation on that one that they changed to midway through. I have them all & all episodes on my usual video hosting site.

Four Corners pops up now and again on YouTube. It was also re-edited into a mini series and aired as Homestead in Europe, though I'm not sure if they bothered to wrap up the series. I think if it's ever going to get an official release, I'd assume the re-cut version is the one that might pop up.

I remember both SOD and SPW blasting CBS in their editorials for not giving it a chance to develop and cancelling it so quick.

I think one of the original concepts of a soap being set in Santa Fe could have been unique and interesting. That said the finished product wasn’t worth some of the initial hype. It definitely didn’t deserve the horrifically competitive time slot for its big 2 hour premiere though.

The premise was promising about two matiarch's that were friends..and sometimes on the same side and sometimes on the opposite side.

Both women had a son and daughter.  Ann Margaret's daughter had a thing for Sonia Braga's son..a priest... while Sonia Braga's sweet daughter was sort of dating Ann Margaret's scheming son..yet yearned for another man that had been paroled and was the son of the man trying to take Ann Margaret's ranch.

Sounds more interesting on paper then it did playing out.

There was one great moment when Ann-Margret's character tells someone (forget who), "My son is not for sale."  That line has stuck with me all these years later.

Like you said, @Soaplovers, "Four Corners" sounds really good "on paper," but I think David Jacobs was just done with television by that point, and especially done with sudsy dramas.

I came across an interesting failed primetime soap pilot. It's produced by Paul Rauch and Steve Kent and written by Dominic Dunne. Looks like a mix of a crime series and a soap.

Michelle Phillips, Noelle Beck and Denise Richards are all in the cast.

The Patrick Clohessy channel on Youtube is uploading Savannah's run.

Savannah has a thread on here if any fans want to try to PM the mods to unlock it. Last used in 2014.

Homefront is also seemingly up in full, on the YonatanDoron channel.

    • Good Morning, this is still funny to me but I totally enjoyed what makes up "DemetriKane" so unnecessary, who cares?!!! Glad you like the Emma Peel derivative story.
    • Christian Streaty penned today's Day's script. https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-streaty/
    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
