Interview with Drake about how after 20 years he found himself off screen

Oh boo hoo. Frontburner for twenty years at the expense of countless other vets woefully misused and he is worried that he suddenly has to go more than a few days without being featured onscreen?

Welcome to the club, Drake. Rude awakening huh?

Exactly.

I'm wondering about John. Drake seems to not like what they are doing with him, which makes me wonder what they are doing with him. But on the other hand, John was destroyed years ago with his multiple identities.

ICAM. To me, John became unbearable when he found out he was a priest. Then a mercenary. Then an insurance salesman. Then an ice cream truck driver. Then a Solid Gold dancer....

Okay. I'm being funny here. But you get my point.

That is why my dream fanfic story is for John to confront all of those identities. I want John's mind (which has been ripped apart, put back together, raped and erased more often than anyone can count) to begin to fall apart. I want him to develop skitzophrenia and begin to act out on each of his multiple personalities. Not knowing his true identity or purpose, John will slowly but surely slip into the depths of madness with only his shrink wife (read: love of his life) there to help save him and guide him through the terrible journey into darkness. Marlena's love will be the one constant throughout the entire ordeal and when the payoff comes, we'll learn John's true identidy: he is the real Roman Brady. But does this payoff come with a pricetag? Yes... the years of mind f*cking will have played its toll on John. He's a fallen hero with a deep, lasting and severe mental illness. Only Marlena can save him and hold him up to the challenge of living a normal life.

If you ask me, that is the one and only love story that can save John and Marlena. And it fits their relationship and their history.

Now back into hiding I go...

Drake wants steady direction for his character. That's not shocking. John's life has been screwed up by every single head writer since the character was created. And it's always screwed up in the end. Drake probably has a hard time playing the character because he has played so many different Johns. Hopefully, he gets his wish from Hogan.

Hahah, Shawn, ICAM.

John Black, International Man of Mystery, has always been a point of eye-rolling contention for me. While Drake's always been a tiny bit over the top as an actor, he was muuuuuch better when his character had a solid footing in reality, pre priest-come-mercenary-come-whatever.

LMAO!!! You know, the only time I really liked John was when he was a Solid Gold dancer back in the day. But I digress...

I can see his point a bit. Here's a man who is supposed to be an international something or other, but he had all the time in the world to hang out at the cop shop and shoot the breeze with Abe and Roman. He should have some sort of career base, but I suppose if he doesn't have a home, why should he have an office?

And wow. There are really people that want Mimi back, huh?

John had turned into a complete joke by the time he fell into a coma. I'm glad that Drake didn't like where his character had gone just as much as I didn't.

It sounds to me as though he's going to come back to work with a renewed passion. Does that mean more air sniffing? I dunno. Only one thing is certain, though... stop growing your hair out long, Drake! We all know you're getting older and starting to lose some of that hair, but growing it to the length of a horse's tail isn't going to hide that fact, or your receeding hairline! It looks stupid and unnatural.

Everyone made a lot of good points in the thread does far. Maybe he does want steady direction because his character has been turned into a joke, but you might as well be speaking the gospel. Drake has had 20 + years of story being shoved his way and being turned into the shows centerpiece. It's ridiculous when soaps are suppossed to be about an ensemble cast and not just a few select actors. Every character needs to be backburned for a while because when you burn through one story after another, you end up with crapfests like the Alex North fiasco simply for the sake of being seen.
