"James Reynolds can be released. The only problem with him being released is that we won't have any diversity on the show. That is the show's fault though. They need to start hiring more minority actors and creating characters for these actors. It's sad."

James Reynolds does not add diversity to DOOL. And if Hogan had to cut one of the black actors, why the interesting one? Lexie was far more interesting than the limited Abe, and I think it was a huge mistake to cut her. Hogie is a good writer, but he has proven AGAIN that he can't write for more than 1 black person at a time. He did the same thing on ATWT. He cut 3 really decent black actors/characters and kept the least interesting one (Pete Parros, Ben). Pete is possibly one of the dullest people on daytime. Possibly the world! This is Hogie's pattern, and I hope he overcomes it soon...

Imagine him at OLTL? Yeah the writing would improve, but he'd keep Vince or that obscene mouthpiece of his and cut Evangeline. I am certain of it!

No way would he cut Evangeline. She is one of the most popular characters on the show, and REG is a great actress. There is a lot of stuff coming up with REG, TSJ, and Kassie DePaiva, three of the hottest actors in daytime today.

Rather than cut vets, how about cut some of the people who are no doubt making way too much money, like Mo Benard (although I guess he is sort of a vet now) and Michael Easton? I am sure their paychecks match those of Erika Slezak and Robert S. Woods.

James Reynolds: never cared for Abe or JR acting, which I always thought was badly over the top.ITA they should have kept lexie.

Josh taylor:even after all those years he is still NOT roman.he adds nothing to the show, and It's time to get rid of him.

Lauren Koslow:either do something diffrent with kate,or kill her and do a great "whodoneit" story.

and Drake H...his acting is dreadfull and the character is just annoying.free marlena and let Deidre do something new.

I just got through watching Suzanne Rogers on Soapography a few minutes ago.

She talked about when Days fired her in 2003. Her words bring home exactly what these older vets face when they get fired or cut to recurring - because they lose their contracts either way.

I didn't tape it so I can't quote her word for word, but she said when she was fired her immediate thoughts were she didn't know how long she would be able to stay in her home. I know that some of them make pretty good money. Rogers and some of them were never big stars and couldn't get the big bucks. She didn't say but I guess she had some in savings, but she knew at one point it was going to run out.

She said there wasn't anything in soaps for her age - no one wanted to hire that age in the world of soaps. She went up for several auditions in primetime but she said she ended up going against Candice Bergen. She said after a certain age all the movie actresses of that age are coming to TV too - so she ended up auditioning against these name movie stars. She didn't really come out and say it - but if you are a producer who are you going to hire for your show a name like Candice Bergen or a an ex-soap star Suzanne Rogers.

DAYS should totally do a big party/ball and do a bomb storyline. Great way to kill of some characters. Have a bomb or a fire, kill off Shawn Sr (while I think Frank Parker is an adorable person, Shawn Sr doesn't serve any real purpose) and some other useless characters and then have it transpire into a "Who Dunnit" story by having Kate as one of the victims but to be found out that she was already DEAD at the time of the fire/bombing. Ta-da, drama and storyline for a few months right there with tons of potential, because several characters would benefit from Kate being gone. Sami, EJ, Lucas, Will, Roman would all be instant suspects. You can bring on the three supercouples, all serving their purpose in the investigation/cover-up. Bo and Hope are cops, John & Marlena can investigate, Steve and Kayla are smack in the middle of the EJ angle already.

Although, it'll be sad for anyone to lose their jobs. But, storyline wise, that's just one of my dream stories.

I, again, disagree. One black character in an environment of 20 or 30 characters is NOT diversity. I repeat, that is NOT diversity. It wasn't diversity in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and it certainly is NOT now...Diversity means you have several black cast members (Grey's Anatomy) blending in with the nonblack cast members. And when they all HAVE STORIES and are NOT related, THAT'S GRAVY! Again, Grey's Anatomy...

I don't want to take this off topic, but I needed to make that point.

Aside from financial reasons, I don't see how firing vets would actually save a show. If any of my favorite vets on ATWT were fired (as opposed to quitting or retiring), I would definitely consider stop watching altogether.

If they should cut anyone, it should be new characters that nobody cares about.

I agree with people who say that if a writer can't write for vets, then they don't deserve to be HW. I'm sure that some HWs are willing to write for vets, but the network/advertisers tell them not to. However, TIIC need to realize that soaps come with loyal followers, and that they should be catering to us first, instead of some potential viewer.

I'd say yes, especially for those who are sick and tired of seeing the vets treated like yesterday's trash so that Pig Tramps, Mobsters/Hitmen and non acting models eat up valuable screentime that could be put to good use by some of the vets we have grown to love over the years...

I rather enjoy this topic...

AMC has pretty much obliterated their vets. Tonya Pinkins, Jill Larson, Vincent Irizarry, Julia Barr, Cady McClain... all disposed of within the last 12 months and the show's still a sh!tfest. They're already giving Lucci sooooo little to work with, so they're saving money by having her work just above her minimum.

    • To bring over from the May Sweeps Thread from @Chris B   I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.   I agree. While it has been hit and miss no question, I have found it fascinating to watch what the costume designer is attempting to do with the various characters and their clothes. Some have been overdue. Some have been fascinating. But (outside of Billy) not boring to watch. I definitely find it more modern as well.   My growing issue has been it's not good that the best reason to watch Y&R as of late has been to see what people are wearing rather than the writing. It feels like a red flag.
    • Haha. The fact that I stopped regularly viewing at the same time and know what you are talking about is chef's kiss.    I'm slowly bingewatching Nurse's Ball Week. But it's slow for me because a lot of the same tics and writing flaws for me that made me throw up my hands is still evident *cough*CVE*cough* Thankfully, there are some things I like also and from a glance in the GH May Thread, it seem like it had a good Sweeps with good fallout. And do I even need to mention Nina finally slapping the taste out of Carly's mouth? See? Regardless of her flaws, I do enjoy Korte-headed episodes over CVE-headed episodes because they always seem to have more emotional resonance to long-time fans.
    • And that charity does still get mentioned from time to time. I want to say the last time was some time this year, too.
    • Oh, no. Vernon has definitely had his moments.   Choose silence anyone?
    • Search YT for Edwyn Sanchez, he posted an AI enhanced episode of ATWT and it is beautiful.
    • That's so funny, that's how I listen to Montecito - while walking my dog. I'll have to check out Forever & a Day.
    • I need to listen! Forever & a Day was a fun soapy podcast to have available when I walked the dog.
    • A few years ago, Devon and Nick started a charity organization together, I think it's for housing in the community.
    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
