Racial Ray?

Perky talk show host Rachael Ray made disparaging racial remarks about the woman who gave Ray her big shot at daytime TV -- none other than Oprah Winfrey, according to TMZ sources. It's a shocking account of a dinner that occurred during the period that the show was being sold.

Rewind to December 3, 2005. Ray was at the Century City Shopping Mall in Los Angeles for a book signing. Reps from King World, the production company that was syndicating the show, were shooting the event for its sales presentation.

At around 7:00 PM, Ray, along with seven others, went to Houston's Restaurant in the mall. They sat in a booth in the far right rear of the restaurant. Ray ordered fish and complained to the table it was dry. She was also drinking red wine and lots of it -- one source says a minimum of four big glasses.

We're told Ray became "extremely loud and aggressive," and began dissing Oprah. Sources say she told the group about a portrait of Oprah that sits in the lobby of Harpo Productions in Chicago. It's from the movie "Beloved" and shows Winfrey's back, enhanced with scars. She's also wearing a skirt from the slavery era.

Back at the table, sources say Ray launched into attack mode: "Why is she wearing slave drag? She obviously has problems being black."

But Oprah wasn't Ray's only target. Sources say she told the group how much she liked Jennifer Aniston and then called Brad Pitt a "!@#$%^&*] boy." But her harshest comments were reserved for Angelina Jolie, calling her "a skanky, backdoor c**t."

TMZ contacted the Director of Publicity for Rachael Ray, Charlie Dougiello, who said, "Rachael did attend the dinner referenced and enjoyed wine and good conversation with friends and colleagues. She denies making any of the comments referenced. In fact, there are several words that are attributed to Rachael that she has never uttered in her life."

Dougiello added, "Neither in public nor in private has Rachael made a disparaging or cruel remark about her friend and mentor, Oprah, nor a celebrity couple she has never even met."

Dougiello also said, "There were several associates of Rachael's at that table who, unprompted, agreed that Rachael never made any of the comments she is being accused of making... and it seems very convenient that these accusations are being levied at a time when Rachael's success has focused the public eye on her."

I didn't know Rachel got down like that. LOL

If Oprah were to let me be a guest on her show and made my career, I wouldn't diss her like that!

I hope she's gotten word of my petition.

So because you do not like her because of her success and fame, she is automatically racist?

I am not saying she is innocent. She is on TV she has a character to portray. But don't you think its funny that those on top are always the targets because the jealousy of others want to tear them down.

Let facts come out before you label someone. Much like the Duck Lacrosse players....see what they have to go through now because of false reports?

Uh... what? Her "success and fame" have nothing to do with whether or not I think she's a racist. If she said what she said, and I have no reason to believe that TMZ would lie about it since Rachael Ray is not that big of a celebrity, then my original statement stands.

LOL

So you just go off and call someone a racist because you read something on the internet...without basis or fact?

Isn't that a little close minded and wrong?

And why do you not like her? What did she do to you BEFORE you read this that made you not like her? She is a big celebrity, several shows, magainze covers, books...

People like to throw the R word around alot too....thats wrong.

I think Rachael Ray is an overrated loudmouth who needs to be knocked down a peg or two. That being said, drunk lips tell sober truths.

Side note: Has it ever occurred to you that someone who has been on the receiving end of racist remarks time and time again would be able to spot it easier than someone who hasn't?

To be honest, I think the race card is played way too much and is probably a reason people are sick of it instead of trying to fix it.

And your hositities toward people may be a reason why people push those thoughts and views aside.

We all have things in our life that are not fair.

And why would would you want to destroy someones career???? Because she is white and rich? You are not making sense.

If she said it, she is a complete moron.

Once again, easy to say if you're not on the receiving end.

And tell me why should I soften the blow? To make you feel comfortable and good about yourself? Give me a break. If you're expecting a cookie or a pat on the hand, you won't get it from me.

I don't care about her enough to want to destroy her career. She can do that all by herself by biting the hand that fed her overrated ass. Great reading comprehension there...

I will say this, alcohol doesn't suddenly make one a racist. In order for something like that to be said, the thoughts were already there, only the inhibition switch is turned off.

It looks to me we just have people who would rather complain than fix.

I agree if she said those vile words...that she is wrong.

I also think people are wrong when they tear down any race, any ethnic group, ANYONE...do you see that DANNI...EVERYONE

I guess you would rather have a pity party for yourself than actually listen to what others say....thats your call if you want to live life in such a destructive way.

I have had many times when I was the one discriminated against, but thats ok..because I am a white male and thats ok because I deserve it. You and I both know that is a load of crap.

And you and I both know that racism is wrong and should not be taken lightly...but you know, if you accuse of her of this and you are wrong...what does that make you? Just remember that. Calling someone racist when you have no proof...not smart.

If and when proof appears, you will have a case...until now it seems a little racist to call her a racist don't you agree? I hope not, because you and I both agree that is wrong.

    • I like that the Martin story hasn't been frequent.  The nightmares are periodic.  Each time, we viewers see more of the accident or whatever happened.  I think we might (or at least I might) be annoyed if we saw the nightmares too often.  At this point, I've become more curious, and so, when it's finally revealed, I think the timing will be just right.
    • Total agreement.  But wasn't AW wonderful with all those servants?  Louise, Brooks, Rocky, Karl (never seen), Beatrice, Helga, Sven, Vivian, etc.  None of the post-Lemay servants ever seemed to resonate, nor did any of them last very long.  I do think BTG would benefit from casting at least one servant for Anita and Vernon.  And perhaps another for Nicole and Ted.  The show needs more have-nots for the different perspective.
    • Interesting, I didn't know the origins of their "friendship." Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Linda Dano or Felicia, but maybe the show would have been better off if they killed of Felicia instead of Quinn and built around her. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't OLTL & ATWT pretty white at that time? Of all the stuff they threw at walls during that time to see what stuck, appealing to Black viewers seemed like a no-brainer. Especially since NBC had success at that time in Primetime with The Cosby Show & 227. Even in the mornings with Bryant Gumbel on Today. Of course, didn't have to be an either/or. I didn't mean to convey that Donna's isolation was the reason. Rachel, Felicia & Donna were all rich, 50ish brunettes who's characters started bleeding together by that point. Granted, mostly due to the bad writing of the writers she hired. Of the 3, getting rid of Donna would have been by far the easiest as VW had the most longevity/caused the biggest uproar; and Dano was the face of the show to the industry (and her favorite of the bunch). Thanks for the info of the alcoholism story. It was right before I started watching so I've only seen the clips of the intervention. Don't remember Cass & Donna at all. Was it last year of the show before he got with Lila? I was mostly checked out at that point.

    • Phillip/Harley made more sense as friends (as they were portrayed to be during the Pam Long era).. and I could even buy them being a short-term couple.. but end game they were not. Didn't GA say he thought it out of character that he would choose Harley over Beth.. or that he would leave Beth/Lizzie back in AZ in order for him to chase a vendetta?  I know that when Beth Chamberlain came back as Beth in late 1997, she was told instantly that the writing would be slanted toward Phillip/Harley.. which surprised her as well. When the Lorelei story came up, it actually made all of her out there/out of character behavior Beth displayed from 1997/1998 through the early/mid 00s make sense.  I liked that the final months of the show, Beth became more like Beth of old so at least the show ended on a positive for her character.
    • I think it was Most Irresistible Couple. I'm pretty sure ATWT's Jack and Carly were up for it to, and I felt gypped that they lost.
